  • Four Practitioners Tried in Lanzhou City

    On August 3rd, 2009, the Political and Judiciary Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), brought four Falun Gong practitioners to the Chengguan District Court for a trial. These practitioners have been held in the No. 1 Detention Centre in Lanzhou since August 2008. They were tried once before in the same court, on December 29th, 2008. Five months later they were sentenced, but their sentences were not made public. Recently, the court wanted to re-try them, saying it was because "the facts were not clear and the evidence was insufficient."
  • Mr. Tian Fengwei in Critical Condition After Abuse at a Detention Centre

    On April 29th, 2009, police and officials ransacked Mr. Tian Fengwei's house, arrested him and sent him to the Fengcheng Detention Centre. In the detention centre, Mr. Tian was forced to do heavy cleaning, wash dishes and wash bed sheets. He was forced to have his thumb print taken by six people. He was physically abused for two weeks, during which time he began to suffer from several ailments, including very high blood pressure. Due to Mr. Tian's precarious health condition he was released in May. However, Mr. Tian was arrested again in July. On their way to the police station Mr. Tian Fengwei's condition worsened and the police had to call an ambulance to take him to hospital.
  • Many Practitioners in Panjin City, Liaoning Province Arrested, Harassed and Homes Ransacked

    On July 21st, 2009, Huang Haiou and Chen Dongjiu, the Deputy Head of the Xinglongtai District Police Department's Domestic Security Division in Panjin City, Liaoning Province, organized about ten officials to break into Ms. Zhai Xiuhua's house and arrested her. The police subsequently ransacked her house and stole many personal belongings including computers and videos. Ms. Zhai Xiuhua is currently held at the Panjin City Detention Centre. In addition, many practitioners in the area have been arrested and harassed.
  • Eleven Practitioners Currently Detained in Qian'an City Detention Centre, Hebei Province

    Eleven Falun Gong practitioners are now being detained in Qian'an City Detention Centre, Hebei Province. The five women practitioners are protesting the persecution by means of a hunger strike. The doctors at Qian'an City People's Hospital have force fed them. Six practitioners were arrested in May 2008 and have been detained for more than one year. On July 20th, 2009, the court convened for a third time to judge these five practitioners. During the session, Mr. Li Yankui asked to speak about the torture he had experienced while imprisoned. He offered to verify his reports of torture by exposing the scars on his body, but his lawyer said a witness had to appear in court to corroborate his story.
  • Thirteen-Year-Old Student in Shandong Province Harassed by Police

    On July 2nd, 2009, under the order of the "610 office" , Shen Tao, section leader of the Laixi City Police Station, ordered two police officers to go to the No. 4 Middle School in Laixi City. These two, accompanied by the dean of the 7th grade, went to the classroom and asked a teen-age girl, Niuniu, to step out of the room. The police officers then interrogated and harassed the young student for over thirty minutes. Niuniu is the daughter of Ms. Zhu Lixin, a Falun Gong practitioner who was sent to the No. 1 Women's Forced Labour Camp in Jinan City for one year and nine months of forced labour before the Beijing Olympics last year. Because Niuniu wrote a letter entitled "I Want My Good Mum to Come Home" and expressed her thoughts and feelings of missing her mum she was interrogated and harassed by police.
  • Tumuji Forced Labour Camp Celebrates 50th Anniversary by Torturing Falun Gong Practitioners

    The authorities at the Tumuji Forced Labour Camp celebrated the camp's fiftieth anniversary on June 29th, 2009. They invited many personnel from other units to visit. During the celebration, the guards from this labour camp brutally tortured Falun Gong practitioners. Female guard Zhou Guoling held a meeting in advance to order practitioners to wear prison uniforms and then clean vegetables. In doing so, the guards were to avoid letting the practitioner detainees meet up with the visitors. In order to protest the persecution, for a period of time the Falun Gong practitioners had not worn prison uniforms, and they had refused to participate or cooperate with anything. The guards forcefully stripped the practitioners and even removed their underpants and bras, forcing them to wear only the prison uniform.
  • Ms. Yuan Shuzhe Barbarically Persecuted in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

    On March 31st, 2005, policemen took Ms. Yuan Shuzhe, a Falun Gong practitioner who had been detained in the Shenyang City Detention City for forty days, to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. The police pushed Ms. Yuan to the ground. She shouted, "Falun Gong is good!" and "Stop the persecution of Falun Gong!" He stuffed a dirty sock into her mouth and stomped on her head. In Masanjia, because Ms. Yuan Shuzhe refused to do hard labour, a policewoman called her into her office and struck her face and kicked her head.
  • Practitioners Arrested for Helping an Elderly Heart Patient

    74-year-old Mr. Fan experienced heart failure and was taken to the intensive care unit in hospital. They told Mr. Fan's family that his condition was both critical and incurable. He chose to return home. Some of Mr. Fan's friends who were Falun Gong practitioners went to see him. They had experienced Falun Gong's extraordinary power to make people healthy and fit, so they suggested that Mr. Fan read the Falun Gong book, Zhuan Falun. He agreed. Mr. Fan experienced a complete recovery without any medical treatment. On July 21st ten police officers burst into Mr. Fan's home and arrested the four practitioners. The police have still offered no justification for the arrests.
  • Ms. Wang Jianhua from Langfang City, Hebei Province Dies as a Result of Persecution

    Wang Jianhua was often harassed and threatened at home by police on days the Communist Party designated as a sensitive date. It brought about tremendous pressure and harm to Ms. Wang and her family, and severely disrupted their normal family life. Under this kind of harassment and serious emotional stress, Ms. Wang's health, which was severely weakened during her detention in a forced labour camp, took an unexpected turn for the worse in June 2009. She went into a coma and the hospital was unable to help her. She died in the hospital on June 27th, 2009 at the age of 50.
  • Mr. Yu Yang Imprisoned in Shenyang Detention Centre

    On July 14th, 2009, the Shenyang City National Security Team arrested Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yu Yang with the help of a special agent from the Tiexi National Security Team. Mr. Yu was imprisoned in the Zhangshi Brainwashing Centre in the afternoon and was transferred to Shenyang Detention Centre on July 29th. It was later discovered that he went on a hunger strike to oppose the persecution and is now very weak. After Yu Yang was arrested, his family had no information about his condition for over 10 days. His company was also very anxious about him, because the work he has been responsible for is at a standstill.
  • Ms. Tian Fengwei in Coma After Repeated Arrests and Torture

    Three months ago, officers from the Lanqi Town Police Station in Fengcheng City, Liaoning Province broke into Ms. Tian Fengwei's home and sent her to a brainwashing centre. After fifteen days of detention, she was severely tortured, causing her systolic blood pressure to reach over 200, she developed several health problems and was released. Two months later, before she had fully recovered, the police came to arrest her again. Due to a struggle during the arrest, she had an aneurysm and is now in a coma.
  • Three Sisters from the Putuo District of Shanghai Arrested and Forced to Undergo Brainwashing

    Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Guo Yueqin, Ms. Guo Yuefen and Ms. Guo Yuefang are sisters, all over 60 years old. On May 25th, 2009, policemen went to elder sister Ms.Guo Yueqin's home, ransacked it, and arrested her two young sisters, Ms. Guo Yuefen and Ms. Guo Yuefang. The sisters were then taken to the police station. Currently, Ms. Guo Yuefen is still imprisoned. Ms. Guo Yuefang was released on bail, but later she was taken to a brainwashing centre operated by the local residential committee. Prior to her arrest, Ms. Guo Yuefang invited an attorney from Beijing to represent her sister Ms. Guo Yuefen. This now cannot happen because Ms. Guo Yuefeng is being subjected to brainwashing.
  • Mr. Miao Tianzeng from Jiaonan City, Shandong Province, Twice Sentenced to Four Years Imprisonment

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Miao Tianzeng, 33, was arrested by police in May 2008. He was sentenced to four years imprisonment in Jinan City Prison. This was the second time that Mr. Miao was jailed. He had been previously sentenced to four years imprisonment in 2001 and was cruelly tortured in Weibei Prison, Shandong Province. The prison guards forced Falun Gong practitioners to write so-called "monthly thought reports," they used electric batons to shock those who refused to follow their orders, and they increased the charge of the electrical batons, using them on practitioners until they could no longer move.
  • Mr. Li He, 59, Dies from Torture at the Jidong Prison in Tangshan City, Hebei Province

    Mr. Li He, 59, was tortured to near death at the Jidong Prison in Tangshan City. After Mr. Li He returned home in critical condition, the authorities continued to harass him. The local 610 Office ordered people to monitor and pressure him, which caused him a great amount of mental anguish. He passed away on June 27th, 2009. Since the persecution began in July 1999, Mr. Li He was arrested and his home ransacked, sentenced to detention and tortured numerous times.
  • Two Practitioners Die in Suzhou Women's Prison, Anhui Province

    On May 25th, 2003, the State Security Bureau in Fuyang City arrested Ms. Fan Wenfang and took her to the Linquan Detention Centre, where she was detained for more than six months. The police force-fed her with water mixed with hot peppers and unknown drugs. After Ms. Fan was sentenced to a seven-year term in prison she was taken to the Suzhou Women's Prison in Anhui Province, where she suffered persecution for more than one year. Every day they would gag her mouth with a cloth, pull her hair, and grab her legs and push her back and forth on the ground as if pulling a wheelbarrow. She lost all her teeth due to the brutal forced-feedings. In 2005, the prison officials declared that Ms. Fan Wenfang had died.
