  • Lou District Court Officials in Yueyang City Hold Secret Court Session for Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Xue Li

    Lou District Court officials in Yueyang City, Hunan Province held a secret court session the morning of June 30th, 2009 to try Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xue Li, without notifying any of her family members. All those who attended the hearing were personnel from the Public Security, the Procuratorate and the Court, except for Ms. Xue Li. Ms. Xue's sister-in-law got to know about the trial when she went to visit Ms. Xue in the detention centre. She then went to the court, but by the time she got there, the court had adjourned, and she had no chance to defend Ms. Xue's innocence.
  • Mr. Ma Chuncheng Arrested, Denied Family Visits

    On March 25th, 2009, police arrested Mr. Ma Chuncheng, in his thirties. His family learned that he had been detained at a detention centre. Mr. Ma's parents and his sister worried that he would be brutally tortured, and they went to the police station to request his release. They were told that they would be notified in three to twenty days.Only on April 30th, the deputy chief of the Fangzheng County State Security Division called his family to notify them that Mr. Ma had been formally arrested. They went to the Fangzheng County Police Department every day, but the police refused to release him or allow his family to see him.
  • Practitioner from Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province Suffers Dislocated Cervical Vertebrae Due to Brutal Mistreatment

    Ms. He Zhiwei, a 46-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, was arrested by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities and forced to enter a brainwashing centre. At the Zhanjiang Brainwashing Centre, she was persecuted and abused so severely that one of her cervical vertebrae was dislocated. When her family demanded her release for medical treatment, the brainwashing centre staff said that they would have to negotiate with the 610 Office. They are still waiting for a reply.
  • Mr. Fang Tianming of Wuxue City, Hubei Province Currently Detained

    In April 2009, Xu Zhengping, head of the 610 Office in Wuxue City, Hubei Province, and others took Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Fang Tianming to the Wuhan City Brainwashing Centre, where he was persecuted. Because Mr. Fang is a teacher, the authorities pressured Wuxue City Normal School to pay for the cost of his detention, demanding over 300,000 yuan. Mr. Fang is still in the Wuxue City First Detention Centre. The police employed a known torture method, handcuffing his hands and legs to an steel pipe. Two armed police then beat him while he was handcuffed. Due to the abuse, Mr. Fang has become dull and unresponsive. It is suspected that he has been given unknown drugs.
  • Two Women in Their Sixties Die as a Result of Ongoing Persecution

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zheng Aihua, in her sixties, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong around July 20th, 1999 and was arrested and detained and several times later as well. In 2000, Ms. Zhen was detained for 105 days in the brainwashing centre. Yang Yulin ordered her family to beat her, causing her to pass out. She was released after her family had 1,600 yuan extorted from them. In 2001 police slapped her, punched her, and extorted money from her family. Her family could not bear the frequent arrests and harassment, and applied a great deal of pressure to Ms. Zheng to try to force her to give up Falun Gong. With constant pressure from her family and the ongoing persecution, Ms. Zheng's old disease recurred, and she died around 2006.
  • Feng Derong Missing for Several Years After Becoming Mentally Unstable As a Result of Persecution

    In 2002, Mr. Feng Derong was spotted by police as he practised the Falun Gong exercises outdoors. The police detained him in the Dongan County Detention Centre. Later, police broke into Mr. Feng's home a second time and found some Falun Gong materials. They sent Mr. Feng to Xinkaipu Forced Labour Camp for a one-year term. Mr. Feng eventually became mentally unstable due to the abuse he suffered in the labour camp. But the camp not only denied treatment, but also did not inform his family. Instead, they tied him to a bed for over ten days. In November 2003, the camp ordered his family to come pick up Mr. Feng, who was severely mentally disoriented. On September 6th, 2004, Mr. Feng went missing. To date, his whereabouts are unknown.
  • Mr. Li Hui and His Wife Detained, Their Children Threatened for Requesting the Couple's Release

    On April 16th, 2009, Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Li Hui and his wife Wang Hua were arrested by police. Police Li Hui and Yao Xiaohua tortured them into making a "confession," and then transferred them to the Gongzhuling Court. However the court officer Yue Lin returned the case to the police department due to insufficient evidence. One week later on June 16th, the police still had not released the couple and plotted to fabricate evidence to further persecute them. On June 13th, the children of Li Hui and Wang Hua went to the Taojiatun Police Station to request their parents' release. They were cursed at and threatened by the policemen there. The police even found a local legal consultant named Shi to videotape them to use as "evidence" that the couple's children were "interfering with the government."
  • Older Practitioner Ms. Lin Lisha Dies as a Result of Abuse in Custody in Sichuan Province

    Ms. Lin Lisha, 51, lived in Leshan City, Sichuan Province. On January 22nd, 2001, the police persecuted Ms. Lin and 50 other fellow practitioners by tying them up, hanging a board on their necks, sentencing each of them from one to three years of forced labour, and broadcasting this whole process on TV for several days. Ms. Lin was arrested and imprisoned on two other occasions. In 2005 police had her sentenced to five years in prison. By the end of June 2009, Ms. Lin had been abused so much that she was thin to the point of deformity. The Prison Administration returned her to her family to avoid taking responsibility for her condition, but she died only a few days after being released.
  • Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Judge Obstructs Lawyers' Attempts to Defend Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Li Zhigang

    The Nangang District Court in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province held a trial for Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Zhigang at 9:00 a.m. on June 22nd, 2009. The judge, Song Chengzhang, resorted to bullying methods to obstruct lawyers in every possible way from defending Mr. Li. The judge denied the lawyers' right to speak with the accused and review the case records. This is a blatant disregard for the law by those who should be enforcing the law.
  • Chengdu City, Sichuan Province Practitioner Ms. Na Zhiping Is Tortured to the Verge of Death

    On April 27th, 2009, while distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong, Ms. Na Zhiping was arrested by police. Ms. Na is now in critical condition as a result of torture and is being held in in the Xinhua Community Hospital. Because the police did not want to shoulder the responsibility, they agreed to let her children visit her. Ms. Na was lying in bed, each hand cuffed to a bedpost and with shackles weighing over 60 pounds attached to her feet. The sight was unbearable.
  • Mr. Liu Ji's Family Persecuted in Yongji County, Jilin Province

    At 4:00 a.m. one day in April 2009, Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Liu Ji and his son Liu Fengyu were arrested at home and taken to Yinmahe Forced Labour Camp in Jiutai City in Jilin Province by police. Previously, in December 2008, police broke into Mr. Liu's home, confiscated Falun Gong books and leaflets exposing the persecution and arrested him. He was taken to a detention centre and his family had to pay 20,000 yuan for his release after 20 days.
  • Arrested and Detained for Two Months, Housewife from Hebei Province Holds Hunger Strike to Protest the Persecution

    Ms. Kang Lanying, a Falun Gong practitioner, has been detained in the city detention centre for over two months. To protest the mistreatment by guards, Ms. Kang has been holding a hunger strike. During the hunger strike, the guards handcuffed her behind her back and stuck a tube down her nose into her stomach, which caused massive bleeding through her nose. Ms. Kang is very weak and very skinny. Due to force-feeding through a tube, her neck has been injured and spurts blood. Her condition is very serious.
  • Two Practitioners Arrested by Yudong Public Security Bureau Officials, Ba'nan District, Chongqing City

    Ms. Liu Tianling, over 50 years old, disappeared while travelling to her home town in Yudong on June 4th. On the morning of June 8th, a policewoman from the Yudong Detention Centre called Ms. Liu's family, verified Ms. Liu's phone number, and asked about Ms. Liu's travel plans to her home town. After confirming each question, she asked Ms. Liu's family to send her clothes to the detention centre. She also asked the family if they knew the identity of a disabled lady who accompanied Ms. Liu. On June 10th, Ms. Liu's home was ransacked by police from the State Security Bureau of Yudong.
  • Ms. Zhang Shengrong Missing for a Month and Half, Nobody Is Looking after Her Disabled Son

    Ms. Zhang Shengrong has been missing since early May 2009. A month and a half has passed and there is still no word of her whereabouts. Ms. Zhang, who is over 70 years old, was persecuted severely by the Jinyang Comprehensive Administration Office in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, after she hired a lawyer. Reports say that Ms. Zhang was taken to a brainwashing centre by the Jinyang Comprehensive Administration Office, but there were no specific details. Because she has been missing for so long, her son, Tao Yuan, who was detained in Guangyuan Prison and tortured so badly that his spine was dislocated, has had no one to look after him. It is not known what his situation is.
  • Ms. Sun Min Died in Police Custody, Police Fabricate Post mortem Examination Cover up

    On April 22nd, 2009, Mr. Wu Yang and his wife, Ms. Sun Min were distributing materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in Beijing. The couple was taken to the Niujie District Police Station. On April 28th, the Fengtai Police Department sent Ms. Sun Min's family a "Death Notice" which stated that on April 23rd, Sun Min was found dead as a result of falling from a height. However when the family saw her body she had a wound on her forehead that looked like it was caused by teeth of an electric torture device affixed to the head. She also had other evidence of torture marks on her body. The so-called Post mortem Examination Report appears to be falsified.
