• Fourteen-Year-Old Girl Beaten by Police for Requesting Her Mother's Release

  A fourteen-year-old girl came to the Ningjiang Street Police Station in Shongyuan City, Jilin Province on August 24th, 2008, and asked for the release of her mother, who had been imprisoned there for three months. The girl had been thrown out by her landlord, and she had no money for tuition or room and board for the upcoming school year. On August 25th, the girl's aunt went to the police station with the girl, but the director refused to release the mother. Officer Yuan Chuanlei entered the room and he punched and kicked the girl dozens of times. Her head was badly bruised, and she was dizzy long after the beating. The officer threatened her, "You will be sent to juvenile reform if you dare to ask for your mother again."

• His Mother Sentenced to Prison, Ms. Deng Linfeng's Son Dies after Being Threatened by the Police

  Ms. Deng Linfeng, 42, and her 17-year-old son went through the security check before entering the train station and was arrested when security staff found informational materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong that she was carrying. The police forced her son, who was terrified, to lead them to their home. They threatened Ms. Deng and demanded information about other Falun Gong practitioners. When she refused to cooperate, they took her to the Jiamusi Railroad Detention Centre. After the trauma of seeing his mother arrested the boy became seriously ill. Ms. Deng's husband had to sell their house to take their son to see the doctors. Even after spending several thousand yuan, he still couldn't prevent their son from dying on their way home on August 20th, 2008.

• Mr. Qiu Baohe from Jiaohe City, Jilin Province, Secretly Sentenced to Five Years of Imprisonment

  As of July 29th, 2008, Mr. Qiu Baohe, a Falun Gong practitioner, has been detained for over four months in Jiaohe Detention Centre. He has been secretly sentenced to five years of imprisonment by the Jiaohe City Court. A guard surnamed Li refused to allow Mr. Qiu's family to visit him in the detention centre. Li also threatened them, saying that practitioners weren't allowed to hire lawyers. The court issued a verdict on July 21st but did not notify Mr. Qiu or his family. Court officials did threaten Mr. Qiu, saying, "Your sentence will be longer if the case is appealed."

• Mr. Yang Guang Tortured to Death in Jilin Province Prison

  Mr. Yang Guang, 56, was arrested in November 2000. Changchun City Police Department interrogated Mr. Yang using cruel torture methods such as: long duration electric baton shocks, tiger bench, beatings with a steel rod, being hung up and beaten with hands cuffed behind the back, sleep deprivation, oxygen deprivation (suffocation with plastic bag over the head), and being force-fed liquor. He was detained in prisons and his health worsened. In 2006, Mr. Yang Guang was 100 per cent paralysed but the Prison would not release him. He died on August 25th, 2008.

• The Tragic Death of a Falun Gong Practitioner in Panjin City, Liaoning Province during the Olympics

  During the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, over ten practitioners from Panjin City, Liaoning Province were arrested by police in their homes. Because Ms. Yang Jingfen practised Falun Gong, six policemen from broke into her home on August 18th 2008. The leader waved his name badge and told her husband: "Yang Jingfen is suspected of being a Falun Gong practitioner, we will take her away." Later her husband found out she was dead in front of their apartment building. The policemen told him that she had jumped to her death. Whether she jumped to escape persecution or was pushed out the window, aren't the police responsible for her death in either case?

• Falun Gong Practitioner Xu Peng from Songyuan City Subjected To Torture, Secret Trial

  Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xu Peng from Songyuan City, Jilin Province was arrested on April 22nd, 2008. He is being held at the Shanyou Detention Centre. Guard Ma Hongzhe tortured him using a procedure called the "Big Hang-up," which rendered him unable to walk. Mr. Xu has been arrested three times. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel extorted a confession from him and framed him for committing a crime, labelling him as an "anti-CCP ringleader." Now they intend to hold a secret trial to sentence him.

• Liu Ruping and His Wife from Jinan City Arrested Again

  Mr. Liu Ruping, a Falun Gong practitioner, was a lawyer. On August 12th, 2008, just as Mr. Liu's wife, Ms. Zhang, was leaving home, officials from the 610 Office and the police station in Changqing arrested her. They took her house key and entered her home without the permission of her husband (Liu Ruping) and son, who were home at the time. The police ransacked the home. So that Mr. Liu wouldn't shout, the officers sprayed pepper water on his face, keeping him from talking or opening his eyes. Liu Ruping was taken to a Jinan brainwashing centre in the Liuchangshan District. Ms. Zhang was put in the Jinan detention centre.

• Ms. Chen Wenbei Sent to Forced Labour Camp Prior to the Olympics

  Beijing resident Ms. Chen Wenbei was arrested by police officers on the evening of May 17th, 2008, at her home. She was sentenced to forced labour and taken to Inner Mongolia prior to the Olympics. On August 9th, 2008, she turned 42 years old in Tumuji Forced Labour Camp in Inner Mongolia. When she was taken away, seminars that she was to attend with personnel from different hospitals and that were planned in advance using sophisticated techniques had to be cancelled. Her husband is unable to make a living and lives at home with their 16-year-old child on borrowed money.

• Mr. Meng Hualong Tortured in the Hot Summer at the Xinhua Forced Labour Camp in Sichuan Province

  Mr. Meng Hualong, nearly 60, a practitioner, has been imprisoned since 2005 at the Xinhua Forced Labour Camp in Sichuan Province. He has suffered from such torture methods as "tying the ropes," electrical baton shocks, and being forced to wear a winter hat and down coat for 10 hours on a hot 86oF summer day. In October 2007, the guards colluded with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members in the Deyang City 610 Office and the Deyang City Refractory Materials Factory. They stopped Mr. Meng's pension payments and caused Mr. Meng's family to fall on hard times.

• Mr. Qin Baoli Persecuted in Wucheng County, Shandong Province

  On August 3rd, 2008, over 20 policemen broke into Falun Gong practitioner Qin Baoli's home in Jiangguantun Village. They searched Mr. Qin's house and confiscated his property. It was in shambles when they left. They even took a ladder and climbed up to the rooftop and damaged the roof. In the end, the police took a computer, a printer, and some other personal effects, filling up a car. Later, the police arrested Mr. Qin and his wife. Mr. Qin's wife was so terrified that she had a heart attack and had to lie down on the floor. The officials tried forcing an unknown drug into her mouth, but she refused to take it. The police did not care if she died from the heart attack, and sent Mr. Qin to the Wucheng Detention Centre.

• The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners from the Fuxing District of Handan City, Hebei Province

  On July 14th, 2008, practitioner Ms. Wang Yan was followed by officers from the Hualin Police Station in Fuxing District when she left her home. The police took her back to her home and placed her residence under surveillance. On July 22nd, she was arrested without any legal procedures being followed, and was taken to the Shijiazhuang City Women's Forced Labour Camp in Hebei Province. A physical examination when she arrived at the forced labour camp indicated that she suffered from hypertension.

• Young Zhenzhen's Wish: To Be Reunited with Her Parents and Brother, Who Are Being Detained and Brutally Tortured

  Yu Zhenzhen is a pretty, ten-year-old girl in China. She studies at the Baita Primary School in Dadong District, Shenyang City, and was supposed to begin the fourth grade on September 1st. She was hoping that her mum could take her to school like her classmates on the first day of school and that her little brother could meet her at the school gate when she finished class. However, her mother Ma Li, and her little brother were secretly arrested on August 13th by police officers from the Liaoning Province Public Security Bureau. No one knows where they are.

  In a few days I will be 18 years old, becoming an adult. However, I don't expect it to be a "happy birthday" since my father is not here with me. He is persecuted simply because he tries to be a good person. For several years my family had been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party simply because my parents practised Falun Gong. On June 27th, a group of people outside the door forced their way into my house. When asked who they were, they replied that they were from the Public Security Bureau. One of them said, "Your father practises Falun Gong so we have arrested him."

• Forced to Hide from the Police for the Past Five Years, Mr. Lu Jun Could Not See His Mum Before She Passed Away

  Falun Gong practitioner Lu Jun, aged 39, from Heilongjiang Province, was forced to leave home and go from place to place for five years. He was not even able to see his mum one last time before she passed away. Now there is only his elderly father left at home. Even so, the police still go to harass the father every day, trying to trick him into revealing Lu Jun's whereabouts.

• Arrested, Beaten and Tortured with Electric-Shock Batons by National Security Police: Practitioner Liang Xiulan in Qian'an City, Hebei Province

  Ms. Liang Xiulan, 42, is a worker in a hospital of Chinese medicine in Qian'an City, Hebei Province. She has been the target of frequent persecution by the National Security Team in Qian'an City. Earlier this year for example, Liang Xiulan was arrested, beaten and tortured with electric-shock batons by Peng Minghui and other policemen. On May 21st, 2008, Ms. Liang was caught talking to people publicly about the persecution she and other Falun Gong practitioners face. She and several other practitioners were arrested on the spot. Liang has computers and printers at her home, so her case was referred to the National Security Team. On May 22nd, Peng Minghui ordered Fu Yonglai to have Liang taken to a brainwashing centre, where a person named Yang slapped her repeatedly.
