Illegal Detention and Imprisonment

  • School teacher and Former Principal Ms. Yang Guizhi Tried in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia

    Ms. Yang Guizhi is an award-winning teacher in Inner Mongolia. On September 22nd, 2011, she was put on trial and framed by the Yuanbaoshan District Court. On May 12th, 2011, four Falun Gong practitioners, including Ms. Yang Guizhi went to the police station requesting the unconditional release of fellow practitioner Ms. Ren Suying. Policeman Liu Caijun not only turned a deaf ear to the practitioners’ request and kind persuasion, but also detained them.
  • Ms. Guo Yunlan Framed by Public Security Agents in Donggang City, Liaoning Province

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Guo Yunlan was handed a written notice from Danggang City Court on September 20th, informing her that she would be tried after October 1st. The Donggang Domestic Security Division, Changshan Town Police Station, and Donggang Procuratorate plotted together to charge her. Ms. Guo was forced to sign and put her fingerprint on a blank sheet of paper; the paper was used to forge evidence against her. In September 2010, police searched Ms. Guo's home and found Falun Gong books and materials and arrested her. Ms. Guo suffered a massive hemorrhaege last November due to the abuse she suffered while she was detained in Dandong Detention Centre. She was allowed to be bailed out and await trial at home.
  • Ms. Jia Yanfeng, Mr. Zheng Jingjiang and Mr. Zhan Xingchao Arrested in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province

    Mr. Zheng Jingjiang was arrested and detained in Sidao Forced Labour Camp in Mudanjiang at the end of 2002. Guard Wang Xuewen instructed inmates to crush his fingers with a pair of pliers. He was also beaten and his ribs were fractured. Despite his condition, guards still forced him to do hard labour. After Mr. Zheng was released from the labour camp, officers from the railway police went to harass him at his home and at his wife's workplace many times. Police arrested him again and took him to Yichun Brainwashing Centre on September 6th.
  • Ms. Zhao Jinrui from Qingyun, Shandong Province, Detained in Dezhou Detention Centre

    On September 20th, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Jinrui accompanied her friend Liu Jinqiang and his wife to Dezhou City to go shopping. On the way home they were stopped by four vehicles from the Domestic Security Division of Decheng District Police Department in Dezhou City that had been following them. A group of plainclothes police forced Ms. Zhao, Mr. Liu, and Ms. Wang to get into their car and detained them in the Dezhou Detention Centre.
  • Second Trial of Mr. Kong Xianguo Held in Xigang District Court in Dalian

    The second trial of Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Kong Xianguo was held in Xigang District Court on September 21st. From beginning to end, the trial lasted only about 5 minutes. Mr. Kong was first tried on August 1st. During the trial, he exposed how he had been tortured when he was interrogated. The presiding judge, Li Tiezheng, asked him about the torture. Mr. Kong said that the police had immobilized him, inserted a lit cigarette into his nose, and poured alcohol down his throat. The judge interrupted him and did not allow him to continue. The prosecutor, Sun Min, asked Mr. Kong, “Where is the evidence of this torture?” When Mr. Kong showed them the scars on his arms, they were speechless. This first trial ended without any conclusion.
  • Ms. Zheng Hongying and Ms. Wang Guilan from Fushun, Liaoning Province Arrested and Persecuted

    Ms. Zheng Hongying, 65, and Ms. Wang Guilan, 60, were reported to the police when they were seen talking to people about Falun Gong in Huangjinbao Village on September 6th. They were arrested and taken to Nankouqian Police Station. Later that day, they were taken to the Nangou Detention Centre. Police broke into Ms. Zheng's home. They confiscated her Falun Gong books and many leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. Ms. Wang was taken to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang, where she is currently being subjected to persecution.
  • Store Owner Arrested, Wife Died of Torture

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Qin Laosi was arrested at home on September 15th. The police sent him to the Xingtai Brainwashing Centre. His three children were left attended. Their mother died last year as a result of torture in a brainwashing centre. Police went to Mr. Qin’s home on July 12th, attempting to arrest him. After he escaped, Wang took Mr. Qin's teenage son as a hostage. His family was forced to pay 2,000 yuan to get the son back.
  • Former Gansu Province Police Officer Mr. Chen Zhongxuan Put on Wanted List

    On September 24th, five practitioners, including a former police officer, were arrested while they were driving through Zhongchuan Town in Gansu Province. The police searched their homes the next day, tortured them using the "tiger bench", and brutally beat Mr. Jin and Ms. He in the criminal investigation brigade at the Huining Police Department. It was reported that Mr. Chen escaped, and the other practitioners were taken to the Baiyin Detention Centre on September 26th. Since Mr. Chen is a former police officer, the Gansu Province Police Bureau got involved and listed him on a nationwide wanted list.
  • Seven Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested from Acheng, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province

    Cheng Baoying's son was married in May of 2011. Several people, including Zhao Yuan from the wedding service company, were asked to be the wedding hosts. On July 10th, 2011, someone hired this company as their wedding host. Due to many Falun Gong practitioners being guests at the wedding, this drew the attention of the persecutors', and they reported it directly to the Heilongjiang Province Police Department. On July 16th, another person from Shuangcheng City hired this company as their wedding host. There were spies video taping the wedding secretly, and seven practitioners from Shuangcheng City were subsequently arrested. They are currently being detained at the Acheng District Second Detention Centre.
  • Ms. Liu Xiaohong Arrested in Sichuan Province, Her Father's Visitation Request Rejected

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Xiaohong came from Macheng, Hubei Province to Chengdu City, Sichuan Province for work. She was arrested by Chengdu police in June 2011. Her father came all the way from the countryside in Macheng to Chengdu to visit her, but none of the officers he met showed their badges or identified themselves. Instead, they nearly confiscated his ID and detained him.
  • Ms. Wang Ruihua's Family Seeks Justice for Her Arrest and Assault by Police in Tianjin City

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Ruihua was arrested by police on February 26th, 2011, and later taken to a forced labour camp. Her family members went to the Banqiao Forced Labour Camp in Tianjin to visit her. Ms. Wang told her family that officers from the Shengli Police Station beat her, ransacked her home, seized her property, and attempted to sexually assault her. Ms. Wang’s family has filed a complaint at the police station.
  • Retired Elementary School Teacher Ms. Wu Guohui from Chifeng, Inner Mongolia Put on Trial

    Retired elementary school teacher Ms. Wu Guohui was put on trial at a Balinzuo Qi Court on September 14th. The lawyer entered a “not guilty” plea. Ms. Wu and her husband were arrested on June 5th, 2011 because they practise Falun Gong and have been detained for over 110 days. At present, she is extremely weak physically due to torture. She has symptoms of heart disease and anemia.
  • Ms. Zhao Baoli Is Facing a Third Trial Despite No Evidence of Wrongdoing

    Ms. Zhao Baoli is a Falun Gong practitioner in Chengde City, Hebei Province who was given one year of forced labour in 2007. Ms. Zhao was arrested again on January 5th, 2011 by police from the Chengde City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and the local police station. She is currently detained in the Chengde City Detention Centre.
  • Falun Gong Practitioners' Families' Appeal to Weihai Court Rejected, Court Afraid of Setting a Precedent

    Recently, the families of detained Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Zhang Xiuhong and Ms. Tian Lisha initiated legal proceedings and administrative reconsideration to Weihai City Government and Weihai City Court. They hired lawyers to defend the practitioners' innocence. However, Weihai City Court officials did not even want to file the case for fear of setting a precedent. During the first half of 2011, 12 practitioners from Wendeng, Weihai, Shandong Province, were arrested. Four were sent to forced labour camps, one was secretly sentenced, and the rest were not released until they were on the brink of death from being tortured.
  • Kindergarten Teacher Arrested in Jilin Province for Practising Falun Gong

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Jia Guirong was arrested at home by police on September 1st. Their justification for arresting her at this time was because of something that took place three and half years earlier. On March 10th, 2008, Ms. Jia's family of three took a taxicab to visit relatives, who lived at the outskirts of Baicheng City. They exposed the persecution of Falun Gong to the taxi driver but he reported them to the police. Ms. Jia was taken to the Baicheng Detention Centre. Later, due to a relapse of her heart disease, she was released on bail.
