  • Shandong Province Women's Forced Labour Camp Brutally Persecutes Falun Gong Practitioners

If a practitioner refuses to give up his belief in Falun Gong, he is not allowed to use the toilet, brush his teeth, wash, sleep, or even talk. Ms. Li Xiumei is currently imprisoned at this Shandong forced labour camp. One day the guards shackled Ms. Li's arms to a prison cell window for seven days and nights, with her feet barely touching the ground. Suddenly the shackles became loose and sprung open. Ms. Li immediately collapsed on the floor from pain, hunger, and exhaustion. When the guards saw her lying there, they rushed over and started beating her. Fearing that their actions would be leaked to the outside during the Olympic Games, they secretly transferred her to another forced labour camp on September 20th, 2008.

  • A Mother's Lament

My son, a Falun Gong Practitioner, has been thrown into jail, and whether he is dead or alive is unknown. I feel anxious every day and I frequently have nightmares. I am already in my seventies. My son has been imprisoned three times. On this last awful day, the whole family was working in the fields. I witnessed with my own eyes how a gang of policemen pounced on my son and handcuffed him while forcing him into a police car. At the same time two men held me back as I struggled, and kept me from resisting their unlawful arrest of my son. I fell to the ground as my heart was broken. I could only watch helplessly as the police car drove away with my child!

Recently, two lawyers were invited to see the judge of the Heilongjiang Province Nongken Intermediate Court. They requested an open court session for the second trial of five Falun Gong practitioners. On November 13th, 2008, the two lawyers had a meeting with two officials from the intermediate court, who pressured them not to represent Falun Gong practitioners. The lawyers refused. Afterwards, the court officials suggested that the Falun Gong practitioners be sentenced to forced labour camp terms without an open court trial. Niu's offence was "obstructing justice through an organization" on account of the DVD and fliers belonging to Ms. Jin and Ms. Chen that were found on Niu's tricycle on May 7th.

  • A Practitioner Recounts the Torture of "Desensitization" at Beijing Women's Prison

On March 11th, 2004, I was taken to the Beijing Women's Prison. Since I refused to give up my belief, I suffered the most brutal tortures, both mentally and physically. Mentally, they forced me to watch video programmes and read books that slandered Falun Gong. They wanted me to write "confessions." Physically, they tortured me with sleep deprivation, forcing me to stand still all night in military postures. They would punch and kick me whenever they were not happy with me. Sometimes I was only allowed to use the toilet once a day. Verbal abuse, humiliation, kicks and punches, and slaps in the face were common practice. They attempted to use force to press me into giving up my belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance.

The police started to arrest the relatives and friends who were peacefully waiting to hear the result of the trial without explanation.
  • I Long for Freedom

When my two older sisters and I were arrested and sent to a detention centre, harshly punished, beaten, and forced to do hard labour, our father's hair turned grey overnight. When one of my older sisters, who was persecuted to the verge of death, was again arrested, our mother cried and shouted bitterly. She attempted to lie under the wheels of a car to stop her daughter's persecution. In a detention centre I was forced to do hard labour every day, and if I didn't finish my work on time, the guards deprived me of sleep. Only a small amount of hard rice noodles, which were cooked without any oil, was provided, and I saw insects floating in the muddy vegetable soup.
