Individual Accounts

  • The Abuse of Practitioners at the Chongqing City Women's Forced Labour Camp: A Personal Account

Between August 2005 and July 2006 I was detained in the Chongqing Women's Forced Labour Camp. They immediately tell new detainees the camp rules, which are implemented right away. One is given a deadline to memorise the rules and regulations, and has to read and memorise the regulation books. They call it "Militarised Management." One has to pass a three-month-long "discipline" probation period; otherwise they will extend the lock-up time and intensify the discipline. During those three-months, one has to get up at 5:30 a.m., spend not more than 10 minutes on personal hygiene and then commence with the "discipline," which lasts until midnight.
  • I Have Been Sent to Labour Camps and Brainwashing Classes Four Times in the Past Eight Years

In August 2003, I was forcibly taken to a labour camp. I was often deprived of sleep and was put in solitary confinement. I was asked to recite the six articles of public security. After making me suffer for years, they made me sign the “Four Statements.” I felt very bad about myself. In April 2006, when I was back in my hometown to distribute materials, I was reported by someone who did not understand the truth of the persecution. I was arrested and sent to Lianzhou Detention Centre and then to a labour camp. As I had a high blood pressure, I was refused to be taken in. The “610 Office” sent me to Sanshui Brainwashing Class for the fourth time. In the following months, I did not cooperate with the persecution and they started using violence to torture me.
  • An Older Lady Tells of the Persecution She Suffered in Sichuan Province

After the Chinese Communist Party started to persecute Dafa, we were not allowed to practise together. My husband did not allow me to practise at home either. I could not understand. Why would such a wonderful practice be forbidden? I decided to speak out for justice for Dafa in Beijing. I was arrested in Beijing. In the regional office, the police asked where we came from. We did not say anything. Then they started to beat us. I still refused to tell, and then they took off my clothes. At last I only had on an undershirt. It was a cold winter day. They asked me to hold a stone lion up. One policeman said, "If you can hold it up, you will be released." Another officer, tall and mean said, "What do you say?" Then he slapped me. It felt like my eyeball had fallen out from the beating. I slowly pushed it back into place. My whole face was swollen, but I did not feel any pain.
  • Exposing the Persecution Carried Out by Jixian County Police in Heilongjiang Province

Only four days after I began Dafa cultivation in 2001, I informed a young local policeman about the true nature of Falun Gong in front of a police station. I was arrested and detained at the police station. Policemen there ordered me to point out Dafa practitioners from a group of people, but I did not cooperate with them. As a result, the police grabbed my hair and slammed my head into a wall. Later I was again detained. They tortured me by having me sit on a wooden stool for a long time without changing positions or sleeping. Otherwise, I would be beaten. My buttocks hurt and became numb from the prolonged sitting.
  • The Persecution of Two Dafa Practitioners in Chongqing City

On September 4th, 2001, I was arrested and sent to Beipei Detention Centre. I was stripped naked for inspection upon arrival. At the detention centre, the police forced me to clean the toilet every day. I was forced to brush the toilet with a toothbrush and touch the filth with my hands. I had to do this every morning, noon and evening. My hands and feet festered after being soaked in dirty fluid for too long. In addition, all of the practitioners were forced to fold one thousand paper packaging boxes every day. We could not go to sleep before finishing the work.
  • How a Doctor Suffered from Persecution

In October 1999, I went to Beijing to appeal. When I arrived at Tiananmen, a soldier asked me who I was. I said that I was a Falun Gong practitioner and I wanted to visit the government appeals office. I was taken to Qianmen Police Station. I refused to tell them my name and address. To punish me, they handcuffed my arms behind my back, one from above and another from below. They then changed their tactics and hung me up by my hands to a steel cage. My toes could barely touch the floor. The officers closed the door, turned off the light, and left me there alone. With my body weight on my hands, I felt as if I was being deformed. My body felt like it was being torn to pieces. After a long time, the officers lowered me down. This torture did not stop until the next morning. I could not move my hands for a long time.
  • A Practitioner Recounts Three Years of Persecution In Masanjia Forced Labour Camp (Liaoning Province)

At one point, I was persecuted to the point that I could not take care of myself, but I refused to be "transformed." They took me to another room for new methods of torture. Guard Liu Yong hung me up for several days. One day he said, "Let's do some physical exercises." He pulled on my arms until he dislocated the joints. They burned my nose and my hair, and used cigarettes to burn my hands. They used wires to hold my mouth open and inserted cigarette butts and dirty papers into it. They used needles to puncture my back, hands, arms and head. They hung me by my hands and tied my legs and feet. They used iron wires to tie my knees. It was an unbearable torture, but I withstood it.
  • I Was Brutally Tortured Inside Jiuquan Jail in Gansu Province

Whenever they got a practitioner to renounce Falun Gong, the jail would give 75 points to the criminal prisoners, which would decrease their serving time by 25 days. Tempted by the apparent benefit, all the criminal prisoners would take turns to brutally beat us. Practitioners were pulled inside pigpens behind the jail, where a brutal beating was constantly in progress around the clock. I was tortured inhumanly for four days. Some of them choked me while others covered my mouth. My neck was so badly swollen I couldn't breathe for a long time. I was beaten so extensively that I was covered with bruises and cuts. All of my teeth were loose, and I couldn't eat anything. I did not get to drink a single drop of water, nor was I able to sleep for one minute.
  • Ms. Zou Ruxiang, 57, Tells of Being Tortured in Baimalong Forced Labour Camp, Where She Became Disabled and Lost Her Memory

I'm 57 years old. I was arrested and sent to Baimalong Forced Labour Camp, where I was tortured in inhuman ways. I was taken to a mental hospital, where they injected me with unknown drugs. I cannot recall many of the horrible deeds the guards did to me. Originally I weighed about 130 pounds, but in 2002, when my husband carried me home, I weighed less than 55 pounds. I was totally paralysed, I could not see, and I had lost my memory. It has been more than four years now. My memory is still only partly recovered, my vision is very poor, and I still limp when I walk.
  • The Persecution I Experienced in Beijing's Legal Training Centre

When I was first taken here by Beijing policemen, several armed police officers took me to a cell. An armed police officer monitored me around the clock. I protested the incarceration with a hunger strike. In the first few days, several armed police ordered a doctor from the nearby Tuanhe Hospital to force-feed me. They called the force-feeding "being responsible for your life." The secret police observed me through the door to see if I was fearful, nervous, tired or anxious. Since I was calm, a few days later the secret police showed up. They tried to trick me and convince me with their evil theories and to threaten me. I knew that as a Falun Dafa practitioner I cannot be convinced or tricked by them, no matter how nice they pretended to be, or how tough they looked.
  • First Hand Experience of Cruel Brainwashing at the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp (Part 9)

I was persecuted for not renouncing Falun Gong from that day in July 1999 when the Chinese Communist regime banned Falun Gong. Because, seven years ago, the former head of the Chinese Communist regime, Jiang Zemin, gave the order "to destroy them physically, starve them financially and destroy them mentally and spiritually," I lost my basic right to earn a living and live a normal life. I was harmed physically and mentally. Because of the rule "guilt by association," my family and relatives suffered and still suffer from this persecution.
  • First Hand Experience of Cruel Brainwashing at the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp (Part 8)

One day, guard Jiao said to me disappointedly, "Zhang Yijie, all that we are allowed or forbidden to do, we've made you suffer them." I then responded. "But, do you know the outcome of your actions?" She looked at me diffidently and with eyes widely open. I said calmly: "Let me tell you, all the things you did to me could only make me stronger and my mind firmer." Jiao had nothing to say to me anymore. Jiao knew that her evil deeds had done everything but kill me. But she also knew in her heart that even if she had taken my life, she still couldn't destroy my belief.
  • Eyewitness to the Vicious Incidents at Shandong Province No. 2 Women's Forced Labour Camp

Wangcun Forced Labour Camp officials punish the steadfast Falun Gong practitioners by forcing them to sit on benches all day long while at the same time collaborators attempt to "reform" them. If the practitioners refuse to be reformed, they would be forbidden to sleep. Because I could not tolerate sleep deprivation I gave in and allowed them to "reform" me. This camp has a basement where the prison guards locked up those practitioners who were not "reformed." I opened a cell door and saw a practitioner hanging on a wall. Her head was wrapped up except for her eyes. I was terrified.
  • First Hand Experience of Cruel Brainwashing at the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp (Part 7)

One day at 1 a.m., the guards locked all the metal gates in the hallway. Two guards and five or six drug addict inmates brutally beat practitioner Ms. Lang Dongyue. These inhuman people also assaulted Ms. Lang sexually and used high-heel shoes to step on her over and over again with as much force as possible. One morning, despite it being very cold outside, Jiao ordered all practitioners to go outside and knit there. When we returned after four hours, everything in the Class Three room was scattered around. There was a great mess. We also saw five criminals surrounding practitioner Tao and brutally beating her. The heating pipe was broken, too. Ms. Tao's chest and stomach were injured and she had pain when breathing. Her private parts were also injured.
  • First Hand Experience of Cruel Brainwashing at the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp (Part 6)

There are about 130 people in each team in the camp, 90 per cent of whom are practitioners. There must be at least 1,000 practitioners in the camp, but they are never given the task of cooking. Only drug addicts, prostitutes, pimps, pornography vendors, and thieves can work in the kitchen. [Chinese buns are supposed to be fluffy and slightly sweet], but practitioners are constantly served with sticky buns, sour buns, salty buns, or rock-hard buns. Boiled vegetables taste like swill and constantly contain worms, bugs, flies, weed stems, and a residue of dirt on the bottom. Later the menu improved slightly and streaky pork or boiled pork skin was added to the menu twice a week but in meagre rations. In fact, many practitioners often don't get any pork at all. Occasionally fried eggs were added to the menu but meagrely rationed as well.
