  Liu Ying was a 35-year-old college graduate, with a degree in engineering.Because she practised Falun Dafa she was abducted by the Beijing "610 Office" who forced her to become a spy, to betray her family and fellow practitioners. She was deceived into thinking she was helping practitioners, yet her mother and other practitioners were arrested and sent to brainwashing. When she found out the true nature of the "610 Office", she stopped working for them. On June 24, 2003, in a dazed and confused state she jumped off a tall building to her death.

  From July 30, 1999 to November 30, 2003, officials in Baoding City, Hebei Province extorted a total of 501,900 Yuan from Falun Gong practitioners. "610 Office" head often ordered Falun Gong practitioners to give him money, food, and other items. In addition, these officials organized many campaigns to search practitioners' homes and send practitioners to brainwashing classes. When they arrested any practitioners, they first questioned the practitioners about their financial circumstances, then extorted money from the wealthier practitioners and sent the poorer practitioners to a labour camp or long-term imprisonment.

• Seventeen-Year-Old Teng Jiajun Deprived of Right to Attend College Despite Her Excellent Performance in National College Entrance Exam

  In China, a student needs to pass both the national college entrance exam and the political examination in order to get accepted by universities. The political examination is in fact an examination of the student's political performance. The authorities would check to see if the student has participated in any activity that may "harm the country" according to the Chinese ruling party's laws. If the student is considered to be politically qualified, then the authorities would sign certain forms that are needed for enrollment in universities. If a student cannot secure such signature, he or she would have trouble getting into universities.

  Bai Wansheng is the head of the Xinle City "610 Office" in Hebei Province. On December 27, 1999, Bai Wansheng was forcing practitioners in a detention centre to stand barefoot and almost naked, outside in temperatures of minus 10 degree Celsius [14oF]. Bai said to them viciously, "Cold enough for you? Let me tell you, as long as Jiang is in power, this is not going to change. I am putting you through this and I will not be held responsible.   Mr. Ji Jianwei, a Falun Gong practitioner, was formerly a policeman in Huzhou City Police Station. Because Mr. Ji practises Falun Gong, he was detained at Huzhou City Detention Centre on criminal charges. Since Mr. Ji was a policeman himself, many policemen in the detention centre knew him. They all wondered why an outstanding policeman who used to catch all kinds of criminals was detained there. So the "610 Office" purposely transferred Mr. Ji to a detention centre in Changxing. He suffered many kinds of torture and intensive forced-labour there.

  Ms Zhang Fuzhen was a Falun Gong practitioner from Pingdu City, Shandong Province. In 2001, she was arrested and sent to a brainwashing class to be persecuted. Ms Sun Fuxiang was assigned to monitor Zhang Fuzhen. She recalled, "they injected some unknown poisonous drug into her. As soon as she was injected with the drug, she felt unbearable pain. She struggled as if she were being driven out of her mind, and she died very painfully. The officials from the "610 Office" witnessed the whole course of Ms. Zhang's death."

• Over 70 Sichuan Province Teachers Dismissed from Their Jobs Because They Practise Falun Dafa

  In 2003 over 70 teachers, who admitted to being Falun Dafa practitioners were dismissed from their jobs in Dazhu County, Sichuan Province. During the second term in 2003, the "610 Office" threatened the teachers with "suspension or dismissal from their posts" and forced the 70 teachers who practise Falun Dafa to attend a government brainwashing programme. They were told that they could not return to teaching until they completed the brainwashing programme and renounced their belief in Falun Dafa. The teachers all possess excellent academic credentials and teaching skills.

• Dandong City "610 Office" Forces Elementary Students To Report Dafa Practitioners

  Recently, the Liaoning Province, Dandong City "610 Office" coordinated with the City Education Bureau and other government organizations to campaign among all the city elementary school students to "expose and criticize" Falun Gong. At Fuchun Elementary School, they forced every student to report on any other students, teachers, or parents who may practise or have any relationships with Falun Gong practitioners. The intense pressure was terrifying.
