Mr. Qu Shanlin, 67, Passes Away After Long-Term Torture in Dongling Prison
2013-03-15A year in Dongling Prison turned Mr. Qu Shanlin from a healthy man into one in critical condition, leading to his death. Mr. Qu was arrested for practising Falun Gong in September 2010 and sentenced to three years in prison in December 2010. He was brutally tortured in Dongling Prison, as a result of which his health rapidly declined. Mr. Qu was eventually diagnosed with stomach cancer. The prison did not grant him medical parole until the end of 2011, when he was already near death. Mr. Qu passed away on May 16th, 2012, at the age of 67. -
Ms. Zhang Fuying, 66, Dies Following Abuse at Brainwashing Centre in Shenzhen
2013-03-15Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Fuying was arrested and taken to the Xili Brainwashing Centre in November 2012, for distributing Falun Gong materials exposing the persecution. She developed a serious illness during the detention and her entire body was swollen. She died three months later after she was released. -
Three Sisters Persecuted, Family Torn Apart
2013-03-15After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to persecute Falun Gong, three sisters in their sixties in the Cai family were arrested several times and subjected to all kinds of mistreatment. At one point they were all detained in the same prison at the same time. The elder brother, crushed by his sisters' plight, had a heart attack and was on the verge of death several times. When he went to Harbin Prison in September 2009 to visit his sisters, he suffered another heart attack on the way to the railway station and died at the age of 52. -
Graduate Student Exposes Crimes and Torture at the Beijing Tuanhe Forced Labour Camp
2013-03-15I was arrested in 2006 and was taken to the Changping Brainwashing Centre. Staff attempted to transform [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] me by forcing me to watch videos which slandered Falun Gong. On May 14th, 2007, officials decided to take me to the Beijing Tuanhe Forced Labour Camp. I didn't cooperate, so they stripped me, shocked me with electric batons, dragged me to a police car and then took me to the forced labour camp. Guards ordered the prisoners to subject me to sleep deprivation, allowing only 2-3 hours of sleep a day. One prisoner tied threads to my eyebrows, then pulled them off. He eventually pulled all the hair off my eyebrows. -
Weinan Prison in Shaanxi Instigates Criminals to Torture Falun Gong Practitioners
2013-03-15The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in Weinan Prison is systematic. Each practitioner is assigned to a prisoner, whose job is to monitor the practitioner every movement. The prisoners who are monitoring practitioners do not have to participate in the forced labour, and the police give them high points every month. At the end of the year, they are able to get the “Activists” reward. Many criminal prisoners bribe the guards to get to be a monitor or “prisoner guardian.” -
Ms. Jiang Cuiping, 74, Retired Doctor at Hefei University of Technology, Dies as a Result of Persecution
2013-03-08Ms. Jiang Cuiping, a retired doctor from the Hefei University of Technology, suffered endless harassment, threats, house searches and arrests from officers of the Chinese communist regime. In September 2012, police arrested her at home and and took all of her Falun Gong books and materials. She was sad, scared, and worried day and night. She slowly became ill, and her doctor diagnosed her with lung cancer in October. She gradually recovered with the help of fellow practitioners. Sadly, she had a relapse and died on February 2nd, 2013, at the age of 74. -
Mrs. Guo Yulan from Shouguang City, Shandong Province, Persecuted to Death
2013-03-08Ms. Guo Yulan died after five police officers ransacked her home and arrested her husband at their own coal company during the 18th National Party Congress in 2012. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Guo's family was repeatedly harassed by the local authorities. Ms. Guo was arrested by police and was shocked with electric batons and beaten to get her to reveal the names of other practitioners, but she did not. -
Ms. Du Xiuying Sent to Forced Labour Camp a Second Time, Her Husband Persecuted to Death
2013-03-08Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Du Xiuying recounts her experience of persecution: "They [Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials] killed my husband and caused me great trauma both physically and mentally. I did not have a job originally. With the persecution, they made my life even more miserable. With my being detained and put in forced labour camps many times and forced to stay away from home, my husband’s passing away, and my daughter being home alone only to be taken care of by my family, she was psychologically traumatised." -
Paralysed in Detention, Mr. Liang Jinshu, 63, Died Shortly After Being Released on Medical Parole
2013-03-08Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liang Jinshu became paralysed as a result of abuse in detention. After being held in police custody, Mr. Liang was taken to the Xiangfang District Detention Centre. The court plotted to sentence him to 10 years in prison. Mr. Liang had been healthy before the arrest. After three months in detention, however, he became paralysed on one side of the body and completely incontinent. He was released on medical parole in mid-October 2012 and returned home after two weeks of hospital treatment. He remained lethargic and in poor health until his untimely death just a few months later, on February 17th, 2013, at the age of 63. -
Mr. Li Min, Harbin Public Servant, Persecuted to Death in 2009
2013-03-08Mr. Li Min was a Falun Gong practitioner and a public servant with the Hulan District Finance Bureau, Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. Officers from the Hulan District Police Department arrested and interrogated him eight years ago using torture and sentenced him to eight years in prison. Mr. Li, 52, died in Daqing Prison on May 26th, 2009, as a result of persecution. -
Practitioner Mr. Zhao Baosheng Persecuted to Death, His Wife and Children Left to Struggle Without Him
2013-03-08Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhao Baosheng was once a millionaire in the cashmere business. He has been detained and persecuted seven times by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). His body and mind were greatly damaged by the persecution, before he died on November 3rd, 2011 at age 48. His wife has been arrested eight times and now her and the children struggle to live on without him. -
Ms. Tuo Meiling Died as a Result of a Mental Collapse Due to Forced Drugs
2013-03-08Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Tuo Meiling from Lingwu City, who had been forced her to take unknown drugs and was tortured in Yinchuan Women's Prison to the point of mental collapse, died at the age of 48. She was last seen by those who knew her at the beginning of 2009, and nothing was heard about her since until the news of her death at the end of 2012. The details surrounding her death are unknown, but it is estimated that she died in the latter half of 2011. -
Ms. Huang Yuanran, a Teacher from Nanning City, Dies after Years of Persecution
2013-03-08Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Huang Yuanran suffered years of persecution because she upheld her belief. She had her resident registration forcibly cancelled by her employer and was subjected to arrest and forced labour. She had been homeless since 2001 due to the persecution. Ms. Huang died on December 17th, 2012 in Guangzhou after an October 30th arrest attempt by police. Before her death, agents from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) were constantly monitoring her, even at the hospital where she stayed before she died. -
Mr. Zhang Xuewen, 54, Passed Away in 2003, within Five Months of Detention
2013-03-08Mr. Zhang Xuewen was imprisoned in March 2003 for upholding his belief in Falun Gong. On August 7th, 2003, Mr. Zhang's family was notified by guards at Hulan Prison that Mr. Zhang was in critical condition and his relatives were required to go to the prison. When they arrived there the next day, they saw that he was already dead. His appearance was appalling. He was emaciated and his teeth had been knocked out. The prison authorities told his family that Mr. Zhang's condition was the result of his being at the Hulan County Detention Centre. They said that under pressure from the higher level agency, they had to accept Mr. Zhang. They told the family that he died of illness and there was no relationship between his death and what took place at the prison. -
Eyewitness Accounts: Forced Labour Inside China's Labour Camps and Prisons
2013-03-08I was sentenced to Suihua Forced Labour Camp in Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province, in the spring of 2007 for practising Falun Gong. In June 2007, all the inmates were forced sort and package a large quantity of toothpicks that had been accidentally soaked in sewage. The contaminated toothpicks mixed with faeces and dirty toilet paper were already dried. We could hardly breathe with the stench of urine and faeces. We were not even given any masks or gloves for protection. There were about 80 of us, but it took us nearly two weeks to finish the work.
