  • Mr. Ma Guobiao and His Parents Sentenced in Secret Trial

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Ma Guobiao, 36, and his parents were detained at the Jiading District Detention Centre for eleven months, because he played a Falun Gong DVD to people. On January 12th, 2009, Mr. Ma was sentenced to six years in prison during a secret court trial held in Shanghai. His mother, Ms. Jin Runfang, received a 4-year sentence and his father, Mr. Ma Dongquan, received a 3-year sentence with a 4-year suspended term.
  • My Experiences in the Haikou Brainwashing Centre, Hainan Province

    My name is Huang Yanqing. On the afternoon of June 25th, 2008, I was abducted by two policemen who forced me into a squad car and then took me to the Haikou Brainwashing Centre in Haikou City, Hainan Province. There I met the collaborators that I had known when I was in the forced labour camp the first time. They said that they had been looking for me for many years. The place was very dark and gloomy. They badmouthed Falun Gong, and my practising Falun Gong. I was handcuffed to the window in the toilet overnight many times. The worst thing was that after 10:00 p.m. when I got tired, they would beat me as soon as I closed my eyes to stop me from falling asleep.
  • Ms. Chen Lirong Suffers Brutal Persecution in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

    40-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Chen Lirong is currently suffering brutal persecution in the notorious Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. When her family visited Ms. Chen recently, they noticed her hands and arms were covered with scars, and they asked her what had happened. She told them that because she would not give up her belief, the guards tied her hands and hung her up, with her feet barely touching the floor. She was suspended like that for over 13 hours. The scars on her hands were caused by the rope.
  • Ms. Zhang Qiuyun Sentenced to Five Years in Prison

    Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Qiuyun was arrested six months ago. The Taocheng District Court of Hengshui City, Hebei Province sentenced her to five years in prison on January 20th, 2009. Zhang Qiuyun's family believes she is innocent, and is appealing for her. On July 20th, 2008 several police used the excuse of checking residence cards to break into Zhang Qiuyun's home. They confiscated all of her personal belongings. The policemen, claiming that they had been following her for seventeen days, took her to the station and tortured her on a "tiger bench".
  • Police from Yushu City, Jilin Province Arrest and Fine Falun Gong Practitioners

    In late 2008, the Police Department of Yushu City, Jilin Province reorganized their mid-level police system, appointing new police chiefs accordingly. They also issued arrest quotas to subordinate police stations. In order to fulfil the quotas, police stations and the National Security Group have been arresting and fining Falun Gong practitioners. In January police ransacked the home of Falun Gong practitioner Zheng Lijia. Police officer Qi Li slapped Mr. Zheng in the face, kicked him, confiscated his Falun Gong books, then detained Mr. Zheng at the National Security Group. They informed the victim's family that he would not be released until they paid a fine.
  • Practitioners Ms. Li Xiuhong and Ms. Yan Shufang Brutally Tortured at Heizuizi Women's Forced Labour Camp in Changchun City, Jilin Province

    Ms. Li Xiuhong and Ms. Yan Shufang are from Tonghua City, Jilin Province. On June 10th, 2008, they were detained at the Heizuizi Women's Forced Labour Camp in Changchun City, Jilin Province. Since they persisted in doing the Falun Gong exercises, they were shocked with electric batons and tied to a metal bed for several months. Ms. Li remains tied to the metal bed even now. She became very sick after being prevented from sleeping. The constant brutal torture has reduced her to skin and bones and she cannot take care of herself.
  • Yunnan Province No. 2 Women's Prison Uses Drugs on Detainees, Causing Many to Suffer from Mental Disorders

    The very first persecution that practitioners had to go through was the "transformation" process. If practitioners did not give up their belief, they would face brutal torture: being locked in a small cell alone, forced to sit on a small stool for a long time, beaten with different tools, and shocked with electric batons. Many practitioners were tortured until they suffered mental disorders or drew their last breath. Practitioner Ms. Zhang Rufen was forced to eat food mixed with poisonous drugs. Afterwards, she bled from the seven orifices in her head. When the guards saw that she did not die, one of them said, "Your life is so strong; you did not die."
  • Ms. Li Yunxia from Yi County, Baoding City, Hebei Province Arrested Again

    On January 7th, 2009, police broke into Ms. Li Yunxia's home. They arrested her without showing a warrant and then detained her at the Yi County Detention Centre. Ms. Li Yunxia, 40, has been persecuted several times for practising Falun Gong. Police arrested her in 2004 and put her into Balizhuang Forced Labour Camp, Baoding City. During the three years she was there, Ms. Li Yunxia was tortured badly. She was finally allowed to go home in 2007.
  • Crimes Committed by the Police in Weifang City, Shandong Province

    Yuhe Police Station officers in Weifang City arrested practitioners and also extorted money from them. In addition, the police ransacked the practitioners' homes and did not even have a search warrant. On October 29th, 2008, police barged into the residence of practitioner Ms. Li Shuqin. They confiscated a Falun Gong materials. They took Ms. Li Shuqin to Yuhe Police Station and incarcerated her. The police tried to extort twenty thousand yuan from her family but did not succeed. Because the family did not agree to their demands, the persecutors dragged Ms. Li to Yuhe Hospital for a blood test, blood pressure test, and electrocardiogram. While undergoing the electrocardiogram, Li Shuqin had a heart attack. Her whole body twitched. Even so, the police still took her to the Weifang City Detention Centre.
  • I Was Bound to a Metal Chair for 17 Days in Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province

    I was detained in Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp. During these three years of persecution, I was bound to a metal chair twice in a small cell. Due to being tied to the chair without moving for so long, my feet, hands, arms, and legs became swollen. The metal rings cut deep into my flesh. Because we were kept in the dark, wet and mouldy labour camp, many practitioners developed scabies. I had scabies on my legs as I was kept on the metal chair for long periods. The area with the scabies began rotting. The guards used electric batons to shock me and force-fed me. They tried to deceive and threaten me. They also tortured me by not allowing me to sleep.
  • Ms. Mi Hong Persecuted at Jilin Women's Prison

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Mi Hong is 43 years old. On July 11th, 2008, police tricked Ms. Mi into opening her door at home and then she was then taken by police to the Xiushan Brainwashing Centre because the "Olympic torch was arriving in Jilin City. On September 22nd, Changyi District Court sentenced Mi Hong to five years in prison without first notifying her family about the trial. As a result of persecution, on December 30th, Ms. Mi had a heart rate of 120 beats per minute and was in critical condition. However, the police still sent her to Jilin Province Hezuizi Women's Prison for further persecution.
  • Recent Persecution of Practitioners in Xintai City, Shandong Province

    Around June 20th, practitioner Ms. An Yan, a teacher, was arrested by Xintai City Education Department and the 610 Office. In the detention centre, she was persecuted until she lost consciousness. Because Ms. An did not cooperate with the interrogation and did not give up her practice of Falun Gong, she was sentenced to two years of forced labour. She is now in the Shandong No. 1 Women's Forced Labour Camp. Because she has some illnesses, she was released on medical parole and is now at home.
  • Shandong Forced Labour Camp Refuses to Let Ms. Zhang Chenglan's Son Visit Her

    On August 12th, 2008, Ms. Zhang Chenglan, a Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested. She was later sentenced to one and a half years in the Shandong Province First Women's Forced Labour Camp. Camp personnel have repeatedly denied Ms. Zhang Chenglan's son's requests to visit his mother. Before the Chinese New Year, he was turned away again. On January 15th, 2009, someone at the labour camp called Zhang Chenglan's niece and asked that her relatives come to the camp to visit Ms. Zhang. Zhang Chenglan's son also went to visit his mother. Guard Han, asked him, "How do you feel about your parents practising Falun Gong?" He answered, "I don't oppose it." Han got angry immediately and said, "I won't allow you to visit your mother!"
  • Mr. Zhang Wenliang Dies in Shandong Province after Years of Persecution

    Mr. Zhang Wenliang, 37, went to Beijing several times to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong, and was arrested. In 2007 he was sent to a forced labour camp in Wangcun for 18 months. In 2008, he became very weak while in Wangcun Labour Camp, and was treated at Wangcun Hospital. By the time he checked out of the hospital in October 2008, he could not take care of himself, and his life was in danger. Even in such a poor condition, local police continued to harass him at home often. He died on December 6th, 2008.
  • Mr. Ding Guohua Dies Shortly After Being Released from Forced Labour Camp

    On May 26th, 2008, police, and community administration arrested Mr .Ding Guohua and imprisoned him in a detention centre. In August 2008, he was taken to Nanhu Forced Labour Camp in Xuancheng City. In less than six months, he went from being healthy to being bedridden due to the brutal mistreatment. Due to the extra-heavy hard labour and severe living conditions, Mr. Ding soon became very sick, but the guards still forced him work to until he was bedridden. Mr. Ding's family heard that he was very sick and went to visit him, but the camp administration refused to let them see each other. One week later after his family came, the guards saw that Mr Ding was dying, and allowed his family to pick him up. Soon after he returned home, he died on January 13th, 2009.
