The Persecution of Ms. Yu Liqiu and Her Husband, Mr. Dong Yufeng from Jilin Province

On September 12th, 2008, Ms. Yu Liqiu and Mr. Dong Yufeng went to Xiaosiping Township to distribute Falun Gong materials. They were arrested and incarcerated in the Dongfeng County Detention Centre. On September 19th, Liaoyuan City 610 Office personnel went to Mr. Dong and Ms. Yu's residence and confiscated their child's computer. After their arrest on September 12th, the two practitioners went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. The guards physically assaulted them and threatened to force-feed them with hot pepper juice and salt liquid. The guards still do not allow any family visits. Their current situations are unknown. Their family received a notice saying that their cases have been transferred to the courts. -
Recent Updates on Practitioners Detained in the Shenzhen City Detention Centre
2008-11-22At about 6 a.m. on January 21st, 2008, Ms. Qian Huarui, 65, was arrested while doing the Falun Gong exercises at home. She has been held in the detention centre ever since and is now in poor health. She has high blood pressure, and her hair has turned grey. Mr. Xiao Feng, Ms. Qian Huarui's husband, is about 70 years old. He is a senior engineer. He has been detained at the detention centre and his current situation is unknown. Yantian Police Station is directly involved in persecuting him. -
The Persecution in Shouguang City, Shandong Province
2008-11-22Prior to the Olympics, police in Shouguang City arrested, detained, fined, tortured, and sent over twenty practitioners to forced labour camps. During this action, they even detained and fined someone who had already given up Falun Gong practice under persecution. The wife of Liu Hongjun, Fu Shuyuan, and their 22 year old daughter, Li, were sent to a labour camp. Police beat Ms. Li and abused her with vile language. After Sang Peirao, 52 years old, just finished two years of forced labour in the Wangcun Labour Camp, he was again taken away by police and sent to the Weifang Brainwashing Centre, where he was persecuted for 50 days. Later he was detained at the Shouguang Target Practice Field for one month. Finally, he was locked in an iron cage in the Gucheng Police Station for three days. -
Third Arrest for Mr. Zhai Wenbin--Sentenced to Forced Labour in Handan City
2008-11-22In 2008, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) announced that it would beef up security during the Olympic Games. Actually, increasing security was simply an excuse for intensifying the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Mr. Zhai Wenbin, a practitioner, was arrested for the third time and is being tortured in Handan Forced Labour Camp. His family didn't receive any information about him for over two months, and they are not allowed to visit him. -
Ms. Yang Wenling Tortured to the Point of Mental Breakdown at Tianjin Forced Labour Camp
2008-11-21Police forcibly arrested Ms. Yang Wenling, a Falun Gong practitioner, in 2006. Ms. Yang was sentenced to one year in Banqiao Forced Labour Camp in Tianjin. She refused to give up Falun Gong, so Chinese Communist Party personnel forced her thumb print on a document that they wrote. The guards also incited criminals to beat her mercilessly and force-fed her with unknown drugs, causing her to become mentally unstable. Ms. Yang was forced to do physical work well over normal hours making paper cartons, which resulted in both of her thumbs being injured. The persecution caused Ms. Yang to suffer a mental breakdown, and sometimes when she goes out she cannot find her way home. At present she cannot lead a normal life. -
The Persecution of Practitioners in Meizhou Prison, Guangdong Province
2008-11-21Meizhou Prison in Guangdong Province persecutes Falun Gong practitioners. Practitioners who refuse to renounce their faith are subjected to prolonged, vicious torture that inflicts great psychological and physical harm. Mr. Zhuang Zepeng, a practitioner, was sentenced to eight years. His legs were disabled. In Meizhou Prison, he was sent to the "strict discipline team" and was assaulted by other inmates. His face was badly injured, and his body had multiple wounds. Mr. Zhuang has not given up his belief in Falun Gong, and he is still imprisoned. -
Ms. Shang Shiying from Tangshan City Arrested and Tortured
2008-11-21On October 12th, 2008, police arrested practitioner Ms. Shang Shiying. Dong Zhisheng, an officer from the Diaoyutai Police Station, searched Ms. Shang and took her house key. Several officers went to her home and ransacked it without anyone present from her family. When Ms. Shang's husband returned home later in the day, the police returned and ransacked the home a second time. Ms. Shang is currently being held at the Tangshan City Detention Centre. In 2000 she was detained and tortured using a method called "carrying a sword on the back": Police kept her in this position for so long that the handcuffs cut into her flesh. They also shocked her with electric needles. -
Liu Haijun of Zhangqiu City, Shandong Province is Harassed and Beaten
2008-11-21Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Haijun began to practise Falun Gong in January 1999, and benefited physically and mentally. Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong, Liu has repeatedly suffered maltreatment. In July 2005, Liu Haijun was arrested by police because he distributed leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, and handed out information material to people. Liu was sent to the Wangcun Forced Labour Camp for one and a half years. Recently police harassed Liu at home and beat him madly. -
Ms. Wang Kaibi from Cangxi County, Sichuan Province Suffers Brain Damage as a Result of Torture
2008-11-20Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Kaibi was arrested by local Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel. In January 2007, she was sent to Nanmusi Forced Labour Camp in Zizhong to be "re-educated" through forced labour. The guards used all their strength to beat her head and tore out a lot of her hair. They dragged her on the ground and beat her eyes. She was dragged into the toilet and beaten during the evenings. Her clothes were removed and they poured very hot and then cold water on her. While in this camp she was tortured until she suffered symptoms of brain damage. Currently, she suffers vertigo, her eyes feel distended and her memory is very poor. -
The Plight of Mr. Wang Yongkai and His Family
2008-11-20Mr. Wang Yongkai from Shandong Province was forced to leave home and become homeless to avoid being arrested. Recently, he was taken away by the police in Jimo City. There has been no news about him since. Mr. Wang and his son had been depending on each other for their subsistence. Now his son's whereabouts are also unknown. Mr. Wang had been persecuted in the past and his family was split up several times due to the persecution. As a result of the persecution, his son, Wang Yiguang, was expelled from school at a young age. -
I Am a Chinese Citizen That's Been Deprived of My Rights
2008-11-20Ever since 1999, when Jiang Zemin's [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] regime started persecuting Falun Gong, my family has not had a single normal day. The joyous life was no more. It is a fact that I have benefited both physically and mentally from cultivating, and that my family lived in harmony and all of my illnesses were cured. I didn't understand why they wouldn't let us practise. As a Chinese citizen I went to petition. My rights as a citizen permit this, and I told everyone who was there of the physical and mental benefits of practising Falun Gong. On September 18th, 1999, I went to the Office of Appeals in Beijing to petition, but I was taken away by the police before I even reached the office. The next day I was sent back home to a local detention centre. Later I was sentenced to forced labour. -
Ms. Qiao Huarong Tried by the Chinese Communist Party-Controlled Court in Jizhou City, Hebei Province
2008-11-20Practitioner Ms. Qiao Huarong, was tried in a court controlled by the Chinese Communist Party in Jizhou City, Hebei Province on November 4th, 2008. At 8:30 a.m., security was tightened in the Jizhous Court, as if protection was needed from a formidable enemy. The guards at the entrance checked everyone carefully, and everyone entering the courthouse had to produce an identification card. Outside the courtroom itself, apart from having to show personal identification, anyone entering had to produce a summons and submit to a body search. The lawyer retained by Ms. Qiao's family to defend her was initially not allowed to enter the courtroom. It was not until the trial was just about to start that the lawyer was finally allowed to enter, due to the family's adamant demands. -
Ms. Zheng Youmei, 61, Dies in Sichuan Province Labour Camp
2008-11-19In July 1999, Ms. Zheng Youmei, 61, went to Beijing to speak out for justice for Falun Gong and was arrested and detained. Ms. Zheng was later sentenced to 18 months of forced labour and detained in the Nanmusi Women's Forced Labour Camp and was tortured by being locked in a water dungeon, submerged in extremely filthy water, containing rubbish and sewage. She was detained again in a brainwashing centre and then in November 2007 sent to Nanmusi Women's Labour Camp again. Ms. Zheng died in custody on November 2nd, 2008. -
22-Year-Old Mr. Li Daixin Dies Shortly after Being Released from a Detention Centre in Liaoning Province
2008-11-19Mr. Lu Daixin, 22, went to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in Xigang District with his mother Ms. Wang Fengjuan (also a practitioner). They were both arrested by police and they ransacked their home and detained them for one month in the Dalian City Detention Centre. Mr. Lu was tortured by being forced to stand for several nights, and brutally beaten. At one point he was forced to watch the cell leader (a prisoner) pull out all of another Falun Gong practitioner's fingernails, one by one. They returned home on October 23rd, 2008, but Mr. Lu died in mental anguish only ten days later on November 3rd, 2008. -
The Brutal Torture I Suffered at Shenyang Women's Prison
2008-11-19I was arrested on November 9th, 2003 for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. In April 2004, I was sentenced and sent to Shenyang Women's Prison in Liaoning Province. I was assigned to Group 3, Ward 1, infamous for its brainwashing of Falun Gong practitioners, with a high success rate in "transforming" [forcibly renouncing Falun Gong] the practitioners. Police officer Li Zhe directed convicted murderers to torture me around the clock. They tied me up and beat me, stripped me naked and poured cold water on me. They also put drugs in my meals. During the time they were drugging me, I was having mental breakdowns and suffered from depression, with frequent panic attacks. To this day I still do not know what drugs they used on me.
