Trial Continues After Defence Lawyers Leave the Courtroom

A second court trial for practitioners Ms. Liu Yanhua and Ms. Wu Wenjin commenced on October 22nd, 2013, without the presence of their three defence lawyers. Ms. Liu and Ms. Wu's relatives were very angry that the court officials acted in such an unfair manner. Defence lawyer Chu Yukun was unable to make it to the court on time, as his flight was delayed due to heavy fog. The two other lawyers then tried to contact Li Yongsheng, the presiding judge, to postpone the trial for a couple of days. However, he did not answer the calls. -
Jilin City Party Secretary Launches Mass Arrests; An Inside Look at the Shahezi Brainwashing Centre
2013-11-26More than 30 Falun Gong practitioners were arrested the night of October 17th, 2013. Some of the them were taken to the Shahezi Brainwashing Centre. Every day from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., propaganda that slanders Falun Gong is broadcast into the rooms. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., they focus on personally abusing practitioners in an effort to break their spirits and force them to renounce their belief. Since becoming the CCP secretary, Zhang Xiaopei has been mercilessly persecuting Falun Gong as a means of gaining political favour for further promotion. -
Elderly Shop Owner Tortured in Liaoning Women's Prison
2013-11-26Ms. Jia Guiqin, an over-60-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Liaoning Province, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for explaining the facts about Falun Gong and the persecution to people. She has been incarcerated in the Liaoning Women's Prison, where she has suffered severe torture, leaving her emaciated, weak, and often unable to focus her mind. -
Mr. Li Runhui, 68, Huabei Oilfield Retiree, Dies after Years of Persecution
2013-11-26Mr. Li Runhui, 68, was arrested seven times because he practised Falun Gong. He was sentenced to a seven-year term in 2009 and held in Jidong Prison. He was later released on medical parole after he developed heart disease and pulmonary oedema (excess fluid in the lungs) and was on the verge of dying. The 610 Office officials (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) kept harassing, pressuring, and threatening Mr. Li while he was on medical parole. Unable to recover under such torment, Mr. Li passed away on August 21st, 2013. -
Ai Hongwu, Hegang Brainwashing Centre Chief, Guilty of Many Crimes
2013-11-24Ai Hongwu, 58, is the chief of Hegang Brainwashing Centre in Heilongjiang Province. He is responsible for the persecution of many people, but to outsiders he lies, saying he is "the principal of a law school." Publicly, he is known as the deputy director of the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in Hegang City, located on the third floor of the Rural Bank of Heilongjiang Province. His wife is ill, and his son works in Shanghai. -
Deprived of Sleep for Four Days , Mr . Li Wendong Is Being Persecuted at Yidong Prison
2013-11-24Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Wendong was sentenced to six years of imprisonment. In February 2013 he was sent to Yidong Prison. The prison assigned six inmates to monitor and torture him, and force him to “reform” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong]. In the beginning, he was only allowed to sleep for 2 hours each day. At one point Mr. Li was deprived of sleep for four days and nights. He has been tortured this way for more than a month. When his wife visited him at the end of October 2013, she became worried because he was obviously frail, and looked emaciated and pale. -
Ms. Zhao Chunyan Sentenced to Five Years in Prison
2013-11-24After previously being arrested twice and sentenced to forced labour twice, Ms. Zhao Chunyan, in her 60s, was sentenced to five years in prison by Hengshan District Court on October 28th, 2013. She has already been through so much and her family is extremely worried about her. To protest the persecution Ms. Zhao went on a hunger strike while she was detained and was obviously very debilitated during the trial. This did not keep the court from sentencing her to five years in prison. -
Mr. Zhao Bin Tortured to Death in Prison after Former Classmates from Taishan Medical College Report Him to the Police
2013-11-24After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began its persecution of Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999, Mr. Zhao Bin was arrested, tortured, and harassed. He was fired from his job because he refused to give up his belief. His wife also divorced him. Whenever he had a chance, he told people the truth about Falun Gong and the persecution. As a result, Mr. Zhao was arrested on April 27th, 2012 and later sentenced to four years in prison. Within two months in the prison, he was tortured to death on October 19th, at the age of 58. -
Ms. Li Xiaoying Suffers Mental Collapse Due to Torture
2013-11-19Ms. Li Xiaoying is a kind and honest woman who was sentenced to a forced labour camp 12 years ago because she practised Falun Gong. Ms. Li was locked in a small cell, hung up by handcuffs, and beaten for 15 days. She was force-fed unknown drugs during her detention, which resulted in her having a mental disorder. After she was released, she improved after receiving medical treatment. However, officials from the local residential committee harassed and threatened her constantly, which has caused her mind to reach the point of total collapse. -
Female Teacher Faces Torture for Refusing to "Transform"
2013-11-19Gu Songhai, head of Heilongjiang Province 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), went to Liulu Brainwashing Centre in Qitaihe City on October 14th, 2013, to personally supervise the torture of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Yumei. He ordered the guards to “make her suffer” if she refused to “transform” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong]. -
Award-Winning Music Teacher Arrested Again after Being Held in a Forced Labour Camp Four Times
2013-11-19Award-winning music teacher Mr. Ding Fadong was arrested on September 15th, 2013, while visiting another Falun Gong practitioner. Both practitioners are now in the Zhongning County Detention Centre. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began 14 years ago, Mr. Ding has been brutally persecuted for not giving up his belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He was sentenced to forced labour four times, tortured, and fired from his job. His family has also suffered because of the persecution of Falun Gong. -
Family of Three Broken Apart by the Communist Regime
2013-11-19Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Yue has been missing since October 18th, 2013. His colleagues at the No. 7 Middle School, where he taught, did not see him come to work, and his family did not see him come home. According to witnesses, the supervisor of the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), Zhao Pengfei, visited the school on October 17th. The following day, Mr. Wang disappeared. Those familiar with the situation suspect that Mr. Wang has been arrested by Zhao. Mr. Wang's wife, Ms. Liu Yumei, has been detained at a brainwashing centre for over 40 days. -
Chongqing 610 Office Accelerates Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in September-October 2013
2013-11-19The 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) established by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) accelerated the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in September and October 2013 in Chongqing. According to incomplete statistics, Chongqing authorities have arrested, harassed, and imprisoned 66 practitioners in September and October this year. Fifty-four practitioners were arrested, had homes ransacked, or were taken to a brainwashing centre. Five were sentenced to prison terms during four trials, six practitioners were harassed, and two were forced to leave home to avoid further persecution. -
Mother and Daughter Arrested Again for Telling People How Falun Gong Helped Them Regain Their Health
2013-11-19Ms. Zhao Fengxia and her mother Ms. Li Zhengying are both residents of Guanjian Town, Tongliang County in Chongqing City. Not long after they began to practise Falun Gong, a once blind Ms. Zhao was able to see again, and Ms. Li saw her numerous illnesses disappear. Having benefited tremendously from Falun Gong, both mother and daughter were determined to share their good news with everyone. However, they were detained on more than one occasion just for telling people about Falun Gong. Ms. Zhao and Ms. Li were recently arrested again on October 23rd, 2013 by police. -
A Corporate Manager in Critical Condition, His Associate Persecuted to Death
2013-11-18Mr. Zhao Bin, 58, was arrested in Shanghai and sentenced to four years in prison. He was persecuted to death just 46 days after being incarcerated in Tilanqiao Prison. He passed away on October 19th, 2013. Mr. Pang Guangwen, who was arrested at the same time as Mr. Zhao Bin began a hunger strike to protest the persecution, is currently in critical condition in the Shanghai Prison Hospital. He was kept tied to the bed and force-fed. His condition has continued to deteriorate, and he now vomits whatever he eats. Similar symptoms were experienced by other practitioners who were persecuted to death through suspected food poisoning.
