  • Zhongyuan District Court in Zhengzhou City Puts Ten Practitioners on Trial

    On March 26th, 2009, Zhongyuan District Court in Zhengzhou City convened a session to try ten practitioners, including. The proceedings were a travesty of justice. Facing the lawyer's questions, members of the court were left speechless. Although the trial was supposedly public, only a few practitioners' family members were allowed to sit in the visitors' seats. The ten practitioners were brought to court in handcuffs and shackles. During the trial, Mr. Liu Wei claimed several times that his so-called "confession" was extorted by torture: he had been suspended on his back, his arms and legs stretched out and his wrists and ankles affixed to three places. He was hung like that for four to five hours. His arms and feet were visibly covered with many scars and injuries.
  • Female Teacher from Xintai City, Shandong Province Arrested and Mistreated by Police

    Ms. An Yan is a teacher. On July 19th, 2008, she was arrested by the chief of the National Security Group and the headmaster of her school. She was sent to the second group of the criminal police team. Her 8-year-old son, Li Duchen, was arrested with her. The frightened boy caught a fever and was hospitalized for over ten days. Police interrogated Ms. An Yan about the whereabouts of her husband, Mr. Li Yunzhao. Ordered by Ma Yan, the officers pulled her hair, repeatedly slapped her face , pushed her to the ground and stepped on her chest. After many rounds of beatings, Ms. An Yan fell into a coma and dropped to the ground. The perpetrators then poured cold water on her face until she become conscious.
  • Supplemental Information Regarding Ms. He Zhiwei's Arrest in Zhuhai City

    Ms. He Zhiwei, 46, was arrested in her home by personnel from the 610 Office who broke in and carried her out of her house on April 9th, 2009. They took her to the Sanshui Brainwashing Centre in Guangdong Province. Ms. He's elderly and sick mother, who is an invalid and cannot care for herself, is now on her own. The 610 Office confiscated personal belongings and didn't provide any receipts. Later, they called and told her mother that the reason for Ms. He's arrest was because she had distributed Falun Gong information materials. In actuality, Ms. He had never left her home that morning.
  • University Professor Ms. Liu Yitao Sentenced to Thirteen Years in Prison

    Practitioner Ms. Liu Yitao, in her thirties, is a professor at Radio and Television University in Guangxi Province. Before the Beijing Olympics in May of 2008, police from Nanchang City arrested her and ransacked her home. In February of 2009, after having been detained for nine months, the Chinese Communist Party's Qingyunpu Court in Nanchang City sentenced her to 13 years in prison. The Qingyunpu Court has sentenced many practitioners. On October 20th, 2006, the court sentenced Chen Xiangyang to 11 years' imprisonment and Zhang Shujun to 10 years.
  • Authorities in Mengyin County, Shandong Province Harass and Arrest Falun Gong Practitioners

    From March 17th to 19th, 2009, police from the Mengyin 610 Office and local police station harassed and arrested several local, blacklisted, Falun Gong practitioners and their homes were ransacked. Ms. Liu Guimei, a practitioner in Tiecheng village, Mengyin county, was arrested that same day while she was in the Jushan market. It was said that when Ms. Liu was arrested, she shouted, "Falun Gong is Good. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good." On March 18th, when Liu's husband, Wang Mingji, went to the Jushan police station to ask for her release he was also arrested. Only their child, Yangyang, was left at home. This couple has been arrested several times.
  • Mother and Daughter from Kunming City Arrested and Sent to Prison for Practising Falun Gong

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Long Huaxian was arrested for no valid reason on June 2nd, 2008 by police in Kunming City. She was sent to Kunming City No. 2 Detention Centre to be incarcerated. On January 5th, 2009, she was secretly put on trial and sentenced to imprisonment by the Kunming City Intermediate Court. Ms. Long is currently appealing the sentence. Her daughter, Ms. Zhou Jin, who is also a Falun Gong practitioner was taken away by police on April 22nd, 2008. Police sentenced Zhou Jin to 3 years of imprisonment. Zhou Jin appealed, but it was rejected. Up until today, they have not informed her family members which prison Zhou Jin was sent to.
  • Practitioner Ms. Wang Shumei of Boli County Secretly Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison

    Practitioner Ms. Wang Shumei was reported by informers and arrested by police while appealing against the persecution of Falun Gong. She was sentenced to a seven year prison term, though the court knew that the sentence was illegal. They allowed only six people to be present in the trial - five from the court itself plus Ms. Wang. They did not inform any family members. Now her family members have hired a lawyer to file an appeal.
  • At Least 14 Practitioners Arrested by the 610 Office in Mengyin County, Shandong Province

    On March 17th and 18th, 2009, at least 14 practitioners were arrested by officials from 610 Offices during a large scale operation. According to reports, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) held a meeting in Jinan, where a quota for the arrest of practitioners was determined for each town. Ms. Sun Zhaoying was arrested on March 18th. According to her neighbours, a 610 Office policeman broke a window and entered her house because she refused to open her door.
  • Qian'an City National Security Team of Hebei Province Arrests Mr. Cai Youwang, Who Does Not Practise Falun Gong

    Mr. Cai Youwang is a taxi driver who does not practise Falun Gong. On May 22nd, 2008, several Falun Gong practitioners hired him to drive them to three villages so that they could distribute leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. They were subsequently arrested by the police. Mr. Cai Youwang was also arrested and had his vehicle impounded. The police used all kinds of methods to torture Mr. Cai. They whipped him with a belt and interrogated him while employing physical abuse. Mr. Cai Youwang is still detained at the Qian'an City Detention Centre.
  • Sun Qinghe Arrested While Visiting a Disabled Practitioner

    In early February 2009, the Jiamusi City Public Security Bureau and Police Department, under the direction of the Heilongjiang Provincial Police Department, started a new wave of persecution against Falun Gong under the pretence of ensuring security for the Winter Games. Since February 8th, 2009, more than twenty Falun Gong practitioners and their relatives have been arrested. On February Sun Qinghe went to visit disabled Falun Gong practitioner Liu Xiaobin and planned to stay there to take care of him. Police waiting outside Liu Xiaobin's home arrested Mr. Sun and ransacked his home. They sent Mr. Sun to the Jiamusi City Detention Centre.
  • Five Practitioners Arrested and Charged with Illegal Assembly

    On the morning of March 18th, 2009, Ms. Tang walked to Suxianling Mountain. On the way, she met four Falun Gong practitioners. They were tired and took a rest in a small pavilion near the mountain. A police patrol soon passed the pavilion. The officers approached and charged the group with illegal assembly. The police refused to hear any explanation and forcibly took them to the Suxian District Police Station. The same day three police officers drove a police vehicle to Ms. Tang's home. Without a search warrant, they took Falun Gong books, cash and personal belongings.
  • Wang Yongqiang Brutally Tortured in Police Custody

    Police arrested Falun Gong practitioner Wang Yongqiang on August 1st, 2008. They ransacked his home, taking away valuables and a large amount of cash. At the police station the police tortured Wang for 3 days. They did not give him food or drink, enclosed his head in a plastic bag, put burning mosquito repellent under his nose for a long time, and smeared pepper into his mouth, nose and genitals. They also tied him up and hung him up for one hour. After they put him down, Wang Yongqiang was in excruciating pain and could barely move. The police would sadistically kick his sides periodically.
  • Falun Gong Practitioners and Defence Lawyer Arrested in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province

    In late February 2009, eight Falun Gong practitioners and members of their families were arrested by police in Harbin City. Three of the practitioners are still being detained. The police have refused to release them or to permit relatives or friends to visit them. Mr. Wei Liangyue, a lawyer and the husband of practitioner Ms. Du Yongjing, was also arrested. Mr. Wei had provided legal representation for Falun Gong practitioners, for which he had been threatened by agents of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
  • Ms. Zhao Chunjie from Gongzhuling City Arrested, Her Daughter, a Student, Is Having to Defend Her Innocence

    On February 12th, 2008, Mr. Lu Yaowu and his wife, Ms. Zhao Chunjie, Falun Gong practitioners, were arrested by police. Even though Mr. Liu was soon released, officers were still trying to press charges against him. As a result, he was forced to leave home and live elsewhere. Ms. Zhao Chunjie, who was cruelly tortured, was recently brought to trial. Her daughter, Lu Yiming, went everywhere to try to find a lawyer to defend her mother. Because the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) pressures lawyers not to take Falun Gong cases, Ms. Lu couldn't find anyone brave enough to defend her. So she, a student, had to defend her mother herself.
  • Practitioner Again Arrested and Tortured, Finally Released: Ms. Liang Xiulan in Qianan, Hebei Province

    Ms. Liang Xiulan is a 43-year-old Falun Gong practitioner. She was arrested again around April 1st, 2009, and we have no current information about her. Police had arrested Ms. Liang several times and tortured her ruthlessly at a brainwashing centre and police station, tortures which included shocking her with electric batons and slapping her in the face. In May 2008, Ms. Liang was distributing informational materials when someone reported her to police. Policeman Pu Yonglai said to her fiercely, "If we kill you, that is counted as suicide, and it has nothing to do with us. If it is exposed on the Internet it is even better, since police officials would know we are working hard." He handcuffed Ms. Liang's hands separately to two chairs, then he and another policeman each took an electric baton and shocked her for a long time, from head to foot.
