  • Chenzui Village Police Officers in Tianjin Arrest and Extort Money from Practitioners

    Villager Li Guosheng falsely accused a male practitioner from the same village of burning an antithetical couplet [two lines of poetry traditionally placed on the doors of people's homes] on March 15th, 2007. The practitioner, who had just begun practising Falun Gong, learned of Li's accusation and asked another practitioner, Ms. Huang Xixiu, to go with him to explain the facts about Falun Gong to Li. When they arrived at Li's home, only his daughter-in-law was there. The two practitioners told her of their visit and explained, "Falun Gong practitioners cultivate Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance and would definitely do no such thing." Li Guosheng's daughter-in-law became irrational and called Li. Li returned home and told the practitioners, "I reported you to the authorities." Police arrested Ms. Huang the next day, ransacked her home, and extorted money from Ms. Huang.
  • Zhao Guiyin Detained at Heilongjiang Provincial Drug Rehabilitation Forced Labour Camp

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Guiying is being detained at the Heilongjiang Provincial Drug Rehabilitation Forced Labour Camp. Since the Chinese communist regime began to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Zhao has been arrested five times due to her belief. Officers from the Qiaonan Police Station in Jiamusi City arrested her in 2005 and threatened her family that she would be imprisoned for a long time if her family didn't pay them money. Four involved policemen extorted 2000 yuan from the family and pocketed 500 yuan each in front of them. Only then did they release Ms. Zhao.
  • Chinese Communist Regime Uses Tour Guides to Deceive and Threaten Visitors to Hong Kong

    A practitioner and his wife from mainland China went on a trip to Hong Kong in April 2010. Being part of a tour group, they noticed that Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents were posing as tour guides to spread malicious rumours and lies to the tourists. This particular person, claiming to be a tour guide, is from the Shenzhen Tourist Company. He said that practitioners who speak with tourists about Falun Gong in Hong Kong do not have regular jobs and have been hired to do this work. They also said that the people talking are not real practitioners and that whoever listens to or reads their materials will not only be punished themselves, but they will also implicate others in the same tour group.
  • The Persecution of Retired Teacher Ms. Sun Yajun from Jiutai City, Jilin Province

    Ms. Sun Yajun, 60 years old, is a retired teacher from Jiutai City Vocational High School in Jilin Province. She was detained twice after the communist regime launched the persecution of Falun Gong more than ten years ago. Ms. Sun's employers fined her and sent her to a mental hospital, where she was forced to take unknown drugs. The drugs caused her to experience a rapid heartbeat, dizziness, and fear of walking. When she was released eleven days later, she felt a noticeable decline in memory and slowness in response. She recovered only several months later. Since her return home, her family has a lot of money extorted from them, the exact amount unknown.
  • Ms. Wang Lihui and Her Family Members Harassed, Arrested and Fined by Authorities

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Lihui has been severely persecuted over the past few years. Her phone is regularly monitored by the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and Public Security Bureau, and officers often come to her home to harass her family. Several times Ms. Wang's husband was harassed at work. Unable to stand it any longer, the family has been living separately for ten years.
  • Mudanjiang City Prison Guards Torture High School Teacher Mr. Gong Chengge and Extort Money from His Family

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Gong Chengge is a former maths teacher. In 2008, he was sentenced to three and a half years years in prison and sent to Mudanjiang Prison. Mr. Gong was tortured with electric batons. Mr. Gong was forced to perform slave labour in prison. He had to stick eyelashes onto toy dolls. Due to his very severe short sightedness, he could not do many dolls in one day and only a few were acceptable. Ward head Xie Xiaofeng and team leader He Guanghai used convicts to extort funds from Mr Gong. When that failed, they ordered prisoners Sun Jinghua and Li Yunye to viciously beat him. Mr Gong's teeth fell out as a result of the beatings. Guards threatened his family members that if they did not give them bribes, the guards would increase Mr. Gong's workload. Consequently, Mr. Gong's parents gave Xie Xiaofeng 1000 yuan.
  • Falun Gong Practitioners Detained and Fined by Policemen from Lanshan County, Hunan Province

    On July 11th, 2010, Falun Gong practitioners Zhou Baisheng, Zhou Yongying and Li Xiyu were seized by local policemen while distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution to people in a village. They were taken to the Lanshan County Public Security Bureau that night and detained for fifteen days. The next day, when their family members requested to see the practitioners at the detention centre, the police demanded that they pay a fee. Every time the family members visited, they were either forced to pay meal fees or fines. Zhou Baisheng was taken to the Xinkaipu Labour Camp in Changsha City, Hunan Province where he was sentenced to a year of "re-education" through labour. Li Xiyu was sentenced to a year of "re-education" through labour at the Baimalong Women's Labour Camp in Zhuzhou City.
  • Daqing City Police Arrest Ms. Jin Lixia and Her Husband, Then Extort Money from Their Teen-Age Son

    Mr. Liu Zehe and his wife, Ms. Jin Lixia, from Daqing were arrested for distributing materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong on June 18th, 2010. Ms. Jin experienced heart problems and was sent to a hospital for emergency treatment. Wolitun Police Department officers took this opportunity to force Ms. Jin's under-age son to borrow money and sign a document. They threatened they would send Ms. Jin to a forced labour camp if no money was handed in. Mr. Liu was taken to the Daqing City No.3 Detention Centre the afternoon of June 18,th.
  • Disbarred Chinese Lawyer: True Loser is the Legal System

    The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice in a hearing on April 22nd revoked the law licences of two attorneys, Tang Jitian and Liu Wei, both of whom are well-known for defending Falun Gong adherents and others who are disenfranchised in China. Prior to the hearing, Tang Jitian spoke to reporters outside the courtroom. He characterized the situation as just another attempt by the authorities to intimidate and suppress lawyers. In actuality, he said, the authorities were only jeopardizing their own moral and legal credibility with the people of China.
  • Party Officials in Deyang City Force Residents to Sign "Pledge Card"

    Since this March, the Deyang Municipal Party Committee in Sichuan Province and the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) have been forcing residents to sign "pledge cards" against Falun Gong and are distributing brochures attacking and slandering Falun Gong. In the Guanghua community at Dongshanbei Lane, residents who receive low-income financial assistance are forced to sign pledge cards against Falun Gong. Otherwise, their payments are withheld. In the Fourth Team of Nanxing town, most residents have signed the pledge card. They were told that if they did not sign, their children cannot join the army or go to college in the future.

    In the morning of April 25, 1999, over 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners began to gather in neat order outside the State Appeals Office in Beijing, close to Zhongnanhai, the CCP's central government compound. They sought a return of the open environment to practise Falun Gong that they had enjoyed for years, and more specifically, the release of dozens of practitioners who had recently been arrested in nearby Tianjin City.
  • Interview with a Participant of the April 25 Appeal

    On April 25, 1999, more than ten thousand Falun Gong practitioners went to Beijing to peacefully appeal. Several months later, former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) head Jiang Zemin, using this event as a pretext, launched the persecution of Falun Gong. This brutal persecution is still going on in China. Falun Gong practitioner Guoping Deng and his wife participated in the appeal on April 25, 1999. The following is an excerpt of an interview with him.
  • Persecution of Ms. Zhong Dongmei in Hebei Province

    I went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing on July 20th, 1999, the day the persecution began. The police arrested me and took me to the Tiananmen Police Station, where many other practitioners were also held. I saw police officers violently beating practitioners. They attacked primarily the practitioners' chests, backs and abdomens. Soon officers took me back to my hometown. A deputy police chief interrogated me. Before I entered his office, a group of people approached me, and hit and kicked me. They whacked my head, eyes, ears and face until I lost consciousness. They sent me to the Dingxing County Custody Centre. This was my first detention. I was forced to pay them more than 380 yuan.
  • Practitioner from Hebei Province Persecuted --Over 50,000 Yuan Extorted from Her Family

    During the past ten years, Ms. Yang Zenghua, 54, has suffered from frequent harassment, arrests, home invasions, and thefts. She was held in the Fuping Detention Centre and imprisoned in Baoding Forced Labour Camp for eighteen months. She has had 55,500 yuan in cash extorted from her family and had personal belongings worth 600 yuan taken from her, for a total of 56,100 yuan.
  • Police in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province Arrest and Extort Money from Practitioners

    Li Fu, former commander of the Mudanjiang City Domestic Security Division said to someone in private, "I am going to retire soon. Before I retire, I can't treat these brothers (police) badly. We have to find all possible ways to collect money. Falun Gong practitioners and their relatives are our source of money." In early December 2009, officers from the Mudanjiang City Domestic Security Division arrested Mr. Wei Jingkun and confiscated two computers and other personal property. Policemen threatened him with forced labour, and then forced his relatives to pay 5,000 yuan.
