  • Details Regarding Mr. Yang Jiaye's Death While in Custody in Guangxi Region

    Mr. Yang Jiaye, 41, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong after the persecution started. In the spring of 2002, he was arrested and sentenced to two years of forced labour for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong. Police arrested Mr. Yang again at his home on June 30th, 2008. They had him sentenced to two years of forced labour and took him to the Nanning City First Labour Camp in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. He died on November 18th, 2008, while detained.
  • Practitioners Forced to Make Silk Flowers at the Zunhua Detention Centre

    On May 9th, 2008, Qi Zhanyou, director of the Zunhua Detention Centre in Hebei Province, made an announcement to everyone in the detention centre over the loudspeaker. He instructed all criminals, detainees, and suspects to make silk flowers, and he declared that anyone who refused to work would be punished according to the "rejecting reform through forced labour" regulation. Four practitioners refused to perform forced labour. The guards confiscated all of the food the practitioners had bought with their own money. After several days of working on the plastic flowers, more than half of the people suffered allergic reactions to the materials. It was unclear what was used in the flowers and their plastic stems. Some people's faces were swollen and they felt itchy all over their bodies.
  • Ms. Tian Suhua of Xiangcheng City, Henan Province, Handicapped as a Result of Persecution, Is Again Arrested and Detained

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Tian Suhua, 43, was arrested by police on July 3rd, 2008. She was detained in detention centres. In 2001 Ms. Tian was detained again. A doctor stuck about two dozen needles into Ms. Tian's body while attempting to resuscitate her. One of the needles was stuck deep into Ms. Tian's heels. Ms. Tian lost feeling in both feet, resulting in difficulty walking. Her eyesight was also affected and she suffered from blurred vision. She was sent to Shibalihe Women Labour Camp in Zhengzhou City where the torture continued because she remained steadfast in practising Falun Gong. On November 17th, 2008, Ms. Tian was taken to Nandun District Court where she exposed the police brutality that caused her disability.
  • Ten Jilin Practitioners Including Ms. Feng Guirong Unjustly Tried

    During June and July 2007, police arrested ten Falun Gong practitioners. They have been detained in the Jilin City Detention Centre for more than a year. On November 4th, 2008, the Jilin City 610 Office prosecuted these practitioners for three days in the Chuanying District Court. Except for those who asked for lawyers, family members were not even informed about the opening session. At the Jilin City Police Dog Base, Ms. Feng Guirong was tortured to extract a "confession." She was force-fed mustard oil and beaten. The police hit her legs with iron rods. The torture made her head and lips swell, her ears rang, and she could not walk straight. When Ms. Feng was taken to the detention centre, she could hardly walk at all.

    Since the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999, Baoding City has been counted among the worst in the persecution of practitioners. Additionally, Hebei Province can lay claim to having the greatest number of practitioners tortured to death. The total confirmed number to date is 74 deaths. Baoding practitioners are still being persecuted, harassed, and having their possessions looted. Each and every blacklisted practitioner has been harassed.
  • Ms. Li Xiulan Remains Imprisoned in the First Detention Centre of Lanzhou City

    On September 17th, 2008, the Chengguan District Court of Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, tried Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Li Xiulan, Yue Zhongxiu, and two others without notifying their family members. Their families had to seek out the location of the trial and the date. Attending the proceedings, they saw that Ms. Li was emaciated. Ms. Li was arrested and imprisoned in the First Detention Centre of Lanzhou City in April. When her family visited her, the guards falsely informed them that Ms. Li would be released in a few days. As the Olympic Games went on, detention centre officials falsely informed her family that she would be released after the Games. Her family did not know about her upcoming trial at the time.
  • Older Practitioner Ms. Pan Xiuming Brutally Tortured at Nanling Police Station in Changchun, Jilin Province

    On October 16th, 2008, Ms. Pan Xiuming, a 59-year-old Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested by the Changchun Nanling police when she was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. At the police station, she was tortured by Officer Dong. He slapped her in the face until her mouth bled. He punched her in the chest and arms until her arms were black and blue, shoved her, and dragged her by her hair. He also struck her on the head. The attack was so vicious that she had suffered from vertigo, nausea, and vomiting. Another policeman handcuffed her behind her back and pulled the cuffs upward until she almost fainted. He then used pens to stab under her fingernails until her fingers were bruised and swollen and stomped on her feet with his boots. During the torture, Dong shouted his questions at her, "Where did the materials come from?"
  • A Former Doctoral Student at Tsinghua University Discloses Persecution and Torture in Sihui Prison of Guangdong Province

    Liu Xifeng was a teacher in Shenzhen City. He was once awarded the "Excellent Teacher of Shenzhen City" award. He was repeatedly arrested and sent to forced labour camps. In September 2002, he and his wife were arrested together. His wife was sent to a forced labour camp and tortured to death. Mr. Liu was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment. In December 2003, he was sent to Sihui Prison. Since he was held in the detention centre, he had been on a hunger strike for a long time. He would not wear the prison uniform. He was shackled for a long time. As a result, he was very weak and almost lost his ability to walk. Even without shackles, he walked like a toddler or a bow legged disabled person.
  • Ms. Mao Yaping Died in 2007 as a Result of Brainwashing and Torture in Gansu Province

    In November 2002, practitioner Ms. Mao Yaping was arrested at work because she had appealed for Falun Gong and forcibly taken to the notorious Gongjiawan Brainwashing Centre - the "Lanzhou City Legal Education School." On July 20th, 2003, guards at the centre began their cruel torture of detained practitioners. Ms. Mao was hung up by the handcuffs for more than ten days and confined for more than one month. Severe physical and mental abuse damaged her health badly, and she never recovered. She suffered kidney failure and died on October 2nd, 2007 in her hometown of Tianshui City, Gansu Province.
  • Ms. Wu Di Dies as a Result of Persecution in Jiangsu Province

    Ms. Wu Di, in her 40s, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested and detained in a labour camp. In 2001, Ms Wu Di was taken by force to the Xuzhou City Chaping Mental Hospital. In this facility, drugs harmful to the central nervous system were administered to the practitioners against their will. Later she was imprisoned in Nanjing City Women's Prison and was tortured to the point of mental collapse. Upon returning home in 2007, Suining City 610 Office chief Yang Shuguang and Domestic Security Division Chief Li Jun have repeatedly harassed her, followed her, and threatened her. At around 11 p.m. on November 10th, 2008, she went missing, and her family found her body drowned in the Cheng River.
  • The Persecution of a Kindergarten Teacher and a Cashier

    Ms. Qi Xiaoping, a teacher, and Ms. Wang Xiaomei, a cashier, in Deyang City, Sichuan Province, were repeatedly harassed, threatened, and detained for their belief in Falun Gong. In detention they suffered inhumane torture. They were beaten and hung up with handcuffs to a window frame. While being taken to a forced labour camp, they escaped from the police. On August 13th, 2008, the police again arrested them and have since detained them in a detention centre.
  • Twin Brothers Are Persecuted for Being Good People;Their Mother Dies While They Are Imprisoned

    Because twin brothers Mr. Cong Ming and Mr. Cong Liang practise Falun Gong, they have been subjected to persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for the past nine years. Mr. Cong Ming was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment in 2001, and he is still in prison. His brother Mr. Cong Liang was arrested and imprisoned on August 10th, 2008. Their mother was left alone with no one to look after her. She died in early November 2008.
  • The Persecution of Li Tongzhi in Hantan City, Hebei Province

    Mr. Li Tongzhi, has been arrested and imprisoned five times because of speaking out against the persecution of Falun Gong. From July 1999 to July 2008, for nine years, the local police searched Li Tongzhi's home and harassed his family countless times. The fifth arrest, in July 2008, was related to the Olympic Games. On July 14th police came to search his home for Falun Gong-related materials. His family members tried in vain to stop them. The police found DVDs exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. Li Tongzhi tried to explain the facts of Falun Gong to them, but they forcefully took him to the Guangmingqiao Police Station. The same afternoon, they sent him to the No. 1 Detention Centre. A week later, he was sentenced to one year and three months of forced labour. Li Tongzhi is still detained in the labour camp.
  • Ms. Zhang Xiaoning Persecuted by the 610 Office

    In mid-June 2008, Ms. Zhang Xiaoning, a Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested and taken to the Yanqing County Brainwashing Centre in Beijing. She was detained for four months. During that time, she was forced to watch videos that slandered Falun Gong for hours. The only food she was given was a small steamed bun for each meal. She persevered in following the standards of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and refused to be "transformed." [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] During the Beijing Olympics Ms. Zhang only slept for four hours per day during that time (from approximately 1:00 to 4:00 a.m.). Whenever she started to doze off, an officer would splash her with cold water.
  • Mr. Guo Jian and His Wife Arrested in Shenyang, Their Nine-Year-Old Daughter Misses Her Parents

    The nine-year-old daughter of Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Guo Jian and his wife is a second grade student at the Zhenxing Second School in Heping District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. Every day, she grasps the hands of her elderly grandparents and begs them to bring her parents back. On August 19th, 2008, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Guo Jian, 35, was arrested outside his home by police officers from the Xinxing Police Station. Mr. Guo is currently detained at the Heping Police Station. His wife, Gu Xhunying, 32, was also arrested on September 16th. Ms. Gu is a very kind person. She is currently detained at the Shenyang City Detention Centre.
