  • Brutal Persecution in Lingqing City, Shandong Province

    On August 2nd, 2009, the Linqing City Public Security Bureau in Shandong Province gave orders to the police in townships and villages under its jurisdiction to harass, arrest Falun Gong practitioners, and ransack their homes. Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Lin was arrested from her home on August 3rd by police. They confiscated a computer, printer, a taxi tricycle, and tools. Ms. Wang was taken to a detention centre where she was so brutally beaten that her cervical spine was fractured, which caused her to lose consciousness. She was sent to the 2nd District Hospital in Liaocheng City.
  • Sentenced to Six Years in Prison, Mr. Zhang Deming Repeatedly Persecuted

    Since 1999, Mr. Zhang Deming has been arrested, detained, and sent to brainwashing centres several times. On March 10th, 2008, the police arrested Mr. Zhang in his home, and confiscated a large amount of his personal property. On February 13th, 2009, the Baobeidian City Court sentenced him to a six-year prison term. On March 18th, two attorneys hired by Mr. Zhang's family, defended Mr. Zhang's innocence. However, on June 10th, the Baoding Intermediate Court disregarded the attorneys' appeal. When the attorneys told the court that the sentence was unreasonable, the court personnel replied, "We are unreasonable to begin with!" On July 15th, 2009, Mr. Zhang was sent to Jidong Prison.
  • Ms. Guo Chuanshu, 62, Died at the Chongqing Women's Prison

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Guo Chuanshu was sent to the Chongqing Women's Prison at the end of November 2008. She died in prison on August 9th, 2009. The sixty-two-year-old Ms. Guo had been detained and persecuted six times; she was twice sentenced to forced labour camps, and twice was sentenced to prison. While she was detained at the Chongqing Women's Prison for the first time, Ms. Guo became paralysed as a result of torture. The prison claimed that Guo Chuanshu's physical condition was normal when she got up on August 9th. At 12:15 p.m., she took some medicine. Only 80 minutes elapsed from the time she first vomited until she died.
  • Persecution Cases of Mr. Liu Yalin and Ms. Wei Xiuha Submitted to the United Nations

    On August 13th, 2009, the Falun Gong Human Rights Working Group (FGHRWG), submitted the cases of Mr. Liu Yalin and Ms. Wei Xiuhua to the United Nations Human Rights monitoring arms. The severity of the persecution these two people suffered in China called for urgency. On April 17th, 2009, Ms. Wei Xiuhua was arrested by police. While in detention, the police poured hot water over Ms. Wei's head, kicked the left side of her chest, smashed her right ear with a bottle filled with water, causing hearing loss in her right ear. She is unable to walk on her own and has heart failure.
  • Mr. Wang Zhige Blinded in One Eye Due to Torture

    Fangzheng County police arrested Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Zhige from Yilan County and detained him. They savagely beat him and brutally force-fed him, which resulted in blindness in his left eye. The court later slapped him with a three-year sentence and sent him to the Hulan Prison. He was forced to stand from 5:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. daily for ten days. Guards incited inmates to violently beat him.
  • Chen Jingyu Suffered Gross Mistreatment at the Heizuizi Women's Labour Camp

    Ms. Chen Jingyu is a Falun Gong practitioner who suffered gross mistreatment in the local police station, detention centre and labour camp. She details her plight, as follows:"As soon as I arrived at the labour camp, the guards attempted to "reform" me. I knew deep in my heart that there was nothing wrong for me to practise Falun Gong, so I firmly refused to listen to them. They then found several "helpers" who were sent in by 610 Office agents. They forced me to watch videos slandering Falun Gong. One "helper" talked to me day and night, trying to get me to practise other beliefs. These guards and "helpers" ordered practitioners to write "four statements to denounce Falun Gong". Everything they used were deceptions and intimidations, which they didn't dare to reveal to the public.
  • Young Teacher's Bones Fractured as a Result of Torture, Family Not Allowed to Visit

    Mr. Chen Fu, a teacher at the South West Normal University in Chongqing Municipality, was imprisoned for practising Falun Gong. His right leg was fractured as a result of being subjected to the Tiger Bench torture and the prison administration wouldn't let Mr. Chen's family visit him. On May 13th, 2008, he was transferred to the Seventeenth Supervision Area of Chongqing Yongchuan Prison and subjected to further abuse. The family is deeply worried. Mr. Chen has been repeatedly persecuted for many years, and was subjected to forced labour for two years from 1999 to 2001.
  • Family Members of Falun Gong Practitioners in Heilongjiang Province File Complaint with UN Human Rights Commission Against Chinese Communist Party

    On March 10th, 2005, several police arrested Mr. Li Min, 51, while he was at work. He was later sent to Daqing Prison. Because Mr. Li refused to cooperate with the persecutors and often told the police that Falun Gong is good, he was frequently subjected to beating by prison guards, which caused severe internal injuries. He became extremely weak, showing stroke symptoms and was bedridden for a long time. The prison refused to release him. Instead, they starved Mr. Li under the pretence that he "needed to be punished for violating prison rules by refusing to wear a prison uniform." In mid May 2009, Mr. Li was transferred to Daqing Hospital, still wearing heavy shackles even though he had no energy to move on his own. He died on May 23rd, 2009.
  • Miss Xu Yiwen Detained Again, Her Family Repeatedly Persecuted

    It was said that around 5 a.m. on July 30th, officers from the Domestic Security Division took Xu Yiwen to the Baishan Forced Labour Camp. So far, this report has not been verified. As Xu Yiwen's parents, Xu Dongcheng and Wang Shu'er, are Falun Gong practitioners, the high school she attended expelled her. Previously, on April 16th, 2009, policemen broke into the home of Wang Shu'er's mother. They again arrested Xu Dongcheng, Wang Shu'er and their daughter, Xu Yiwen, who were taking care of their ill grandmother. They confiscated a computer and other items. They detained the family of three in the Linjiang Detention Centre. Xu Yiwen was detained for fifteen days.
  • Police Beat Ms. Zhao Qunlan and Arrested Practitioners Who Attended Her Trial in Yueyang City Court

    On August 4th, the Junshan District Court in Yueyang City held a court session to try Falun Gong practitioner Zhao Qunlan. During the session, the police harassed Ms. Zhao's two lawyers, threatened and arrested practitioners who came to watch the trial, and shocked Ms. Zhao with an electric baton after the trial. The two lawyers pleaded not guilty for Ms. Zhao, and praised Falun Gong practitioners as true heroes.
  • Attorneys Barred from Seeing their Client Mr. Gu Huaibing File Complaints against the Domestic Security Division in Chengdu City

    On July 21st, 2009, Mr. Gu Huaibing was arrested by officers from the Tiaosanta Police Station. On August 5th, Mr. Li Jinglin and Mr. Lan Zhixue, two attorneys representing Mr. Gu, requested to meet with their client according to the law but were rejected by the chief of the Wuhou District Domestic Security Division, Chengdu City. Both attorneys have filed complaints with the Chengdu City Procuratorate and other relevant authorities against the unlawful actions of the Chengdu City Detention Centre, the Legislative Affairs Section of the Public Security Department, Wuhou Branch and the chief of the Wuhou District Domestic Security Division.
  • Attorneys Sue National Security Team in Wuhou for Denying Attorney Rights to Meet With Gu Huaibing

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Gu Huaibing was arrested at his job by officers from the Tiaosanta Police Station on the evening of July 21st, 2009, and he was detained on criminal charges the next day. On August 5th-6th, his lawyer requested a meeting with him but was turned down by the team leader of the National Security Team in Wuhou. On August 13th, two attorneys, Lan zhixue and Li Jinglin, brought suit against the Procuratorate of Chendu City and the relevant departments. The team leader of the National Security Team of Wuhou violated the law by denying the requested meeting between the lawyers and Mr. Gu, hindering the attorneys and depriving the attorney's right to see their client.
  • Former President of Nanyang Construction Group Arrested While Purchasing An Airline Ticket

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Xinguang, who is in his fifties, was the former president of Nanyang Construction Group. Mr. Li was on a business trip to Beijing on the morning of June 23rd, 2009, and when he used his personal identification card to purchase an airline ticket, the airline identified him as a Falun Gong practitioner, and he was then detained. On June 26th, he was sent back to a local police station by the Wolong Police Station in Nanyang. His home was ransacked by the police, and he is now being detained at Nanyang First Detention Centre
  • Ms. Lv Guiru from Lanzhou City Forced to become Homeless Two Years Ago

    On October 27th, 2007 police officers from Lanzhou City, Gansu Province broke into 66-year-old Ms. Lv Guiru's home and attempted to force her to write a guarantee letter to give up Falun Gong by threatening to put her into a jail and to implicate her relatives. However, Ms. Lv refused them. Afterwards, Ms. Lv was forced to leave home. Since then, for almost two years officials from the Donggangxilu Police Station have continually sent workers from the Tianshui Road Community and some people to monitor her home and bang on her door.
  • High School Student Ms. Cao Rui Expelled for Practising Falun Gong

    Ms. Cao Rui was a high school student. School officials dismissed her in December 2007 for refusing to sign her name on an anti-Falun Gong campaign document. With help from her relatives and friends, she eventually graduated from another school. In November 2000 Cao Rui and her mum went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. They were arrested. Schoolteachers and police worked together to "reform" her, forcing her to listen to slanderous propaganda. They also made her write a promise to give up Falun Gong; otherwise, they would intimidate and threaten her to write a letter to her mum in a labour camp, asking her to stop practising Falun Gong.
