  • Elderly Ms. Wu Shenghua Dies Resulting from Brutal Mistreatment

    Ms. Wu Shenghua, who was in her seventies, was reported to police while giving someone a Falun Gong blessing card on June 8th, 2009, and later arrested by police at her home. The police ransacked her home and damaged some furniture. After being tortured for three days, Ms. Wu developed high blood pressure and heart disease. In fear of being responsible for her life, the police released her after extorting money from her family. She died on June 16th.
  • Mr. Zhou Jingcheng from Ningxiang County, Hunan Province Detained, Forced into Labour Camps and Sentenced Ten Times

    Mr. Zhou Jingcheng has been sentenced to prison, sent to a labour camp twice, detained seven times and forced to undergo a variety of tortures due to his belief in Falun Gong. He is currently detained in the Wangling Prison. Since 1999, Mr. Zhou Jingcheng has spent the majority of his time in jails, and almost 60,000 yuan has been extorted from his family. In 2003 police handcuffed Mr. Zhou's hands behind his back and suspended him from the handcuffs tied to window bars for over twenty hours. Other torture methods included sleep deprivation and stripping him, then dousing him with water and turning on a fan to chill him during the winter.
  • Savage Interrogation by National Security Police

    In July 2007 I was arrested by police officers from the local National Security team and taken to a site used to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. There, I was savagely tortured and interrogated. I was tortured for three days. The police handcuffed me to a metal chair and then beat my head. They handcuffed my hands behind my back with one hand over my shoulder and put six beer bottles between my back and hands. My arms quickly became numb due to lack of circulation. The police opened the handcuffs for a few minutes and then closed them again. I was later taken to a detention centre for a month, and was subsequently imprisoned in Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp, Changchun City, Jilin Province.
  • Additional Information on Ms. Wang Wenduan and Ms. Sun Shouqi's Deaths Due to Torture in Dingzhou City, Hebei Province

    Ms. Wang Wenduan, 53, was arrested, detained, tortured and forced to do hard labour because she refused to give up Falun Gong. In a detention centre guards tried to force her to give up her belief. They shocked her with electric batons and beat her with rubber batons. They spread her arms and legs, cuffed them on an iron bed, and then they beat the soles of her feet with wooden batons with nails, smashing her feet. Because of the trauma she passed away in July 2004.
  • Mr. Yang Xiuming, a Falun Gong Practitioner from Hunan Province, Detained in Prison in Guizhou Province for Five Years

    Mr. Yang Xiuming, a Falun Gong practitioner and officer in the Xinhuang County Civil Affairs Bureau, was reported to the police for distributing information about Falun Gong. He was arrested by police. Mr. Yang is currently being held in the Yuping County Detention Centre. He has been sentenced to a term of seven years imprisonment. Prior to his sentencing, he had been detained and persecuted in Dujun City Prison where he was not allowed any visits by his family members
  • Five Practitioners in Chongqing City Recently Sent to Forced Labour Camp

    Practitioner Ms. Tan Yinxiang was arrested at noon on March 16th, 2009. That night a group of three or four police ransacked Ms. Tan's home. Her daughter tried every possible way to find out where Ms. Tan was taken, but by the end of March, she still had no clue. Ms. Tan is currently jailed at the Shabao Women's Forced Labour Camp and has been sentenced for two years forced labour. Four other practitioners in the area were also arrested and sent to forced labour.
  • Three Falun Gong Practitioners Secretly Sentenced in Heilongjiang Province

    On June 18th, 2009, the Jinshantun Court of Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province secretly opened a session and gave long sentences to three Falun Gong practitioners. Mr. Zhang Peixun, Mr. Zhang Yongsheng and Mr. Li Congfu were given prison sentences of nine, eleven, and eight years, respectively. It was clear that the judge intended to convict the three practitioners with a charge of interfering with the implementation of law. When the practitioners' lawyers asked which law the practitioners interfered the implementation of, the judge could not respond. The three practitioners have submitted an appeal of the unjust sentences.
  • Older Practitioner Ms. Zhu Xixian Arrested and Robbed by the Police, then Forced to Leave Home to Avoid Further Persecution

    Ms. Zhu Xixian, over 50 years old, is a practitioner from Pingjiang County, Hunan Province. Since last year, she has been arrested and detained by the police twice, and had large amounts of money extorted from her. Each time she was persecuted to the brink of death. Ms. Zhu was able to flee to freedom, but now she is forced to live away from home to avoid further persecution.
  • Mr. Guo Xingguo Dies One Month after Being Released from Prison in Heilongjiang Province

    Mr. Guo Xingguo, around 40 years old, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after attempting to go to Beijing to appeal against the persecution in 2002. In 2003, he was released because he was dying as a result of torture. But in 2004 he was imprisoned again. He became ill again and died on June 3rd, 2009.
  • Ms. Fang Min Tortured to the Verge of Death at Chongqing Women's Forced Labour Camp

    Forty-something-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Fang Min was severely persecuted at the Chongqing Women's Forced Labour Camp and her life was in danger. She had symptoms of cancer, her four limbs were swollen and she was not able to speak. The forced labour camp issued a notice for her to be released on bail for medical treatment on June 8th, 2009. The local police station came to take her back on June 9th and she was sent home the same day.
  • Chongqing City Politics and Law Committee Secretary Wan Fenghua Forces Mr. Jiang Xiqing's Family to Forfeit Legal Proceedings

    In January 2009, guards in the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp in Chongqing City beat practitioner Mr. Jiang Xiqing until he was unconscious. While he was still alive, the guards cremated him. In the afternoon on May 13th, lawyers Mr. Zhang Kai, and Mr. Li Chunfu from Beijing were in the victim's home providing legal assistance and investigating the case when they were detained, beaten, and interrogated for over five hours. There were over twenty police officers at the scene. To force Mr. Jiang's family to abandon legal proceedings, Jiangjin District Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Politics and Law Committee Secretary Wan Fenghua increased the threats and persecution against Mr. Jiang's family.
  • Ms. Guan Hua Severely Tortured by Wanjia Forced Labour Camp Guards

    On February 1st, 2007, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Guan Hua was sentenced to one year and six months of "re-education" through forced labour in Wanjia Forced Labour Camp. The guards attempted to force the practitioners to take a so-called test. The guards decided that Ms. Guan failed her "examination," so they forced her to stand on a stool, then pulled both hands behind her back. A guard tied her hands with one end of a rope, then passed the another end through a heating pipe above a window, while two other guards pulled forcefully on the rope. Ms. Guan then hung helplessly in the air. In order to cover up their torture activities, guard Jiang Tao used adhesive tape to cover Ms. Guan's mouth.
  • Mr. Liang Yuncheng Tortured to Near Blindness; Family Members Are Not Allowed to Visit

    Mr. Liang Yuncheng, 42, a resident from Fengcheng City, Liaoning Province, was arrested for practising Falun Gong. He was detained for more than three months and tortured to near blindness. Recently, the director of the Fengcheng Detention Centre called Mr. Liang's brother and told him that Mr. Liang needed a defence lawyer for his upcoming trial. When Mr. Liang's brother went to the detention centre to find out more about the case, the guards would not let him in the building.
  • Shijiazhuang Prison Refuses to Release Mr. Li Feng, in Critical Condition

    Mr. Li Feng is imprisoned at the Fourth Prison of Shijiazhuang City. He is in critical condition, but the prison administration refuses to release him to get medical help. Mr. Li developed many severe illnesses as a result of persecution after he was imprisoned in 2002. In 2005, he was in a coma for 14 hours after he was forced to work under 113 degree Fahrenheit conditions in a tube factory. By June 2nd, 2009, Mr. Li had high blood pressure. He also suffers from uncontrollable vomiting. Mr. Li is in critical condition yet the prison refuses to release him.
  • Mr. Xu Dawei Cruelly Tortured in Prison Before He Died at Age 34

    Mr. Xu Dawei, 34, was from Qingyuan County, Fushun City, Liaoning Province. Mr. Xu was persecuted for eight years by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials in four prisons. Mr. Xu was tortured in a number of ways: violent brainwashing, being forced to wear handcuffs and shackles for extensive periods of time, brutal beatings, being hung up, force-feeding, being beaten with a rubber hose, being pierced with a steel needle more than 10 cm long, and electric baton shocks. Just 13 days after returning home, on February 16th, 2009, Mr. Xu died.
