• Ms. Song Caihong Dies After Severe Beating in Detention

  Ms. Song Caihong, 41, was a beautiful, vivacious young woman. She was arrested in December 2011 for giving people Falun Gong calendars. Zhang Junfeng, director of the Huludao City Detention Centre, beat Ms. Song severely over a period of approximately ten days in detention because she refused to tell them her name, but only cried out, “Falun Gong is good!” On January 8th, 2012, Ms. Song's condition worsened and she was often losing consciousness. On January 15th, Ms. Song passed away.

• Ms. He Wenjun from Taiyuan City Died in 2010 after Being Injected with Harmful Drugs

  Ms. He Wenjun was arrested in September 2009. She was injected in her arm with unknown substances while she was held in a detention centre. After the injection, she developed severe oedema all over her body, had difficulty breathing, and her arms and breasts swelled and were in continuous pain. She died in October 2010.

• Mr. Li Huabin Dies from Abuse at the Ziyang Brainwashing Centre in Sichuan Province

  Another Falun Gong practitioner, Mr. Li Huabin, died on January 12th, 2012 after being abused at the Er'ehu Brainwashing Centre in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province. Mr. Li was released at the end of December 2011, and he began to lose consciousness shortly after returning home. His symptoms are very similar to that of physician Mr. Wu Yihua, a Falun Gong practitioner who died on December 12th, 2011 after abuse in detention. It has been alleged that forced drug administration at the brainwashing centre led to Mr. Li's death.

• Mr. Wang Fengqi from Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province Passes Away After Police Harassment and Home Ransacking

  Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Fengqi, 60, is the father of Mr. Wang Xinchun, who lost his legs in 2001 due to the persecution. Police ransacked Mr. Wang Fengqi's home. Terribly frightened, Mr. Wang suddenly lost his ability to speak or move, and passed away less than a month later on December 22nd, 2011. Mr. Wang Fengqi had been threatened, arrested, interrogated and detained repeatedly for practising Falun Gong.

• Retired Farm Worker Dies after Being Tortured in Heilongjiang Women's Prison

  Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Bixu, 66, was arrested for explaining the facts about Falun Gong on August 4th, 2008. She was later sentenced to three and half years in prison and was incarcerated in the Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison. In 2011, she was hospitalised for about seven months in the Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison Hospital. The prison authorities refused to release her. In January 2011, Ms. Zhao was again hospitalised for some time. She died on January 14th, 2012.

• Engineer Mr. Lu Haixing Killed in Jinzhong Prison

  On January 10th, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Lu Haixing died in Jinzhong Prison at the age of 45. According to the practitioners who have been incarcerated in Jinzhong Prison, the prison authorities deliberately designated inmates who are wicked and merciless to monitor and torture Falun Gong practitioners. The main methods of torture included: 1. brutal brainwashing, monitoring around the clock, verbal abuse, forced labour; 2. solitary confinement, being locked in a strictly managed ward indefinitely, long-term standing or sitting, beatings, deprivation of sleep, shackling and handcuffing.

  Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Song Caihong was reported while handing out calendars that contained information exposing the persecution and was arrested by police and severely beaten. She died on January 15th at the age of 41. Prior to this latest experience of persecution, Ms. Song was subjected to brutal torture in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp for three years. She was later sentenced to five years in prison at the Liaoning Province Women's Prison.

• Mr. Qin Yueming Tortured to Death, His Wife and Daughter Sent to Labour Camp

  Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Qin Yueming was tortured to death in Jiamusi Prison on February 26th, 2011. After his family's persistent efforts, the Heilongjiang High Procuratorate finally accepted their appeal. Three months have passed, and the case still hasn't reached the court. In the meantime, Mr. Qin's wife Ms. Wang Xiuqing, and daughter, Ms. Qin Hailong, were arrested on November 13th and imprisoned at the Qianjing Forced Labour Camp in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province.

• 39-Year-Old Mr. Li Shangrong Dies after Ten Years of Imprisonment

  Shenyang City Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Shangrong was arrested in December 2000 and sentenced to ten years in prison. After ten years of imprisonment, he was emaciated when he returned home. He recounted: "During a physical examination, it was discovered that there were cavities in my lungs. Because I resisted the so-called “transformation” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] carried out by the prison, my family was not allowed to visit me during 2009-2010. I had a constant fever, and my weight dropped from 194 pounds in 2000 to 115 pounds when I was released.” He passed away on December 30th.

• Five Family Members from Jilin Province Suffer Repeat Persecution and a Death

  Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liang Xiuzhen and her family have been repeatedly persecuted for 12 years. One of them died due to torture, and five of them were subjected to forced labour or sentenced to jail eight times. She recounts her experience: "In 2002, officer Jiang Jinglao gave orders for me to be given an injection of unknown drugs that affected my nervous system, causing me to walk abnormally with pain in my left leg for over nine years...My son-in-law was arrested in 2004 for printing materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. He was sentenced to ten years and incarcerated at Kongzhuling Prison. He was brutally tortured in the prison and died on September 15th, 2010."

  Sixty-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Ruxing was from Longxi County, Gansu Province. Due to the long-term persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), he passed away at home on December 25th. Mr. Liu was sentenced to forced labour camp for two years and sentenced to three years of imprisonment.

• 62-Year-Old Ms. Jiang Jingping Dies as a Result of Injuries Sustained Through Torture in a Heilongjiang Province Forced Labour Camp

  Ms. Jiang Jingping was tortured both mentally and physically for one year in the Heilongjiang Province Women Drug Rehabilitation Centre, a labour camp in Harbin City. After returning and being at home for only one month, she died as a result of the torture she suffered in the forced labour camp on November 30th, aged 62.

• Mr. Gong Fangli, 37, Dies Suddenly While in Custody of Huadian City Detention Centre

  On October 26th, 2010, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Gong Fangli was arrested by police. Mr. Gong was taken to the Huadian Detention Centre and detained for 14 months. He was deprived of family visitation the entire time. On December 28th, 2011, Mr. Gong's family was notified that Mr. Gong had been taken to Huadian Hospital. The family arrived at the hospital around 3:00 a.m., and Mr. Gong died at 5:00 a.m. Mr. Gong's death was devastating for his wife. She held their four-year-old child as tears covered her cheeks. The next day, December 29th, the detention centre authorities called Ms. Gong's wife in for a meeting. They claimed that Mr. Gong died of a heart attack resulting from natural causes. However, Mr. Gong was healthy before the arrest.

• Physician Wu Yihua Dies after Torture and Abuse at a Brainwashing Centre in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province

  Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wu Yihua, in his 40s, was strong and healthy before he was arrested in October 2010. In order to force Mr. Wu to give up his belief in Falun Gong and give out other practitioners' names, guards at Er'ehu Brainwashing Centre tortured Mr. Wu with different methods. Mr. Wu was interrogated and physically abused for several days. Meanwhile, the brainwashing centre director, Xiao Hui, laced Mr. Wu's drinking water with a drug that damages the central nervous system and internal organs. Mr. Wu was also mentally abused and subjected to brainwashing. He died on December 12th, 2011.
