Account of the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioner Tan Chengqiang Before His Death
2010-08-15
Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Tan Chengqiang gave up smoking, drinking, gambling, and other bad habits through the Falun Gong practice. In 1999 Mr. Tan went to Beijing to appeal for justice for the practice. He was arrested and held in the Shuangcheng Detention Centre, where he was tortured and beaten by guards and inmates. Guards forced practitioners to work in a quarry, collecting stones to fill up cargo trains. The labour was intense and dangerous, since there was a high risk of being injured by the stones rolling down the hill. The guards shouted: "As long as you are breathing, you have to work! Your family is responsible for your medical bills if you are injured!" Mr. Tan died as a result of the persecution on July 19th, 2003. -
Elderly Ms. Song Yaqin Dies as a Result of Persecution
2010-08-14Seventy-seven-year-old Ms. Song Yaqin from Jilin City, Jilin Province, began practising Falun Gong in 1998. She gained spiritual and physical benefits from the practice, including recovery from arthritis. She then suffered a decade-long persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for her belief since 1999, leading to her death on July 18th, 2010. -
Computer Engineer Persecuted to Death in Guizhou Province
2010-08-13Falun Gong practitioner Liu Bo had liver disease for over twenty years, but completely recovered after becoming a Falun Gong practitioner. In 2002, Liu Bo was arrested and taken to the police station where he was beaten by several officers. His legs were shackled, then spread wide onto a metal door for over ten hours. He was taken to the local detention centre the next morning, where he was beaten and terrorised. Mr. Liu was persecuted for three years in the Zhongba Forced Labour Camp. Because of the long duration and severity of the persecution, his mental and physical condition had seriously deteriorated, and Liu Bo passed away on April 14th, 2010. -
Older Practitioner Mr. Zhu Wenhua Dies in Tianjin Prison
2010-08-10Mr. Zhu Wenhua was arrested in May 2003, and placed in custody at the Dayingmen Police Station, in the Hexi District. He was sentenced to eight years in prison in a secret trial at the Nankai District Court in March 2004, and was detained in Tianjin City Prison ever since. Mr. Zhu was inhumanly tortured: one leg was beaten until broken. He was disabled by the police because he refused to give up his faith in Falun Gong. The prison administration notified Mr. Zhu's family that he died on July 19th, 2010, due to a heart attack. -
Ms. Tian Huiying Persecuted in Guangdong Women's Forced Labour Camp Before Her Death
2010-08-09Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Tian Huiying was arrested on February 15th, 2004. The persecution that she suffered in the Guangdong Province Shanshui Women's Forced Labour Camp left her emaciated and led to her death on July 6th, 2005. The labour camp authorities claimed that she died in a car accident, compensated her family 30,000 yuan (about USD$4429), and cremated her body to close the case, washing their hands free of any allegations. One witness at the labour camp recounts: "I saw Ms. Tian walk up to a guard and say something. The guard spat at her, and two drug offenders started beating her in front of everybody. The practitioners and other inmates were shocked and shouted at the thugs to protest the violence in broad daylight. That was the last time I saw Ms. Tian." -
Ms. Zhu Guilian, 62, from Changde City, Hunan Province Dies as a Result of Persecution
2010-08-08Ms. Zhu Guilian from Changde City, Hunan Province was held at a detention centre for one year before being released in February 2010, due to a critical medical condition. Police took Ms. Zhu from the detention centre to a mental hospital. Ms. Zhu told others that she was injected with a drug while she was held in the Changde City Mental Hospital. She constantly spat up blood and regularly had bloody stools. Her weight decreased from 130 pounds to 77 pounds after eight months of imprisonment. Previously, she had been arrested and jailed on many occasions for her belief in Falun Gong. Ms. Zhu died on May 5th. -
Older Practitioner Ms. Chen Xiufen Died Seven Years Ago after Being Tortured
2010-08-05Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Chen Xiufen, 61, was arrested in 2000 and subjected to the thumbcuff torture technique during her one-month detention at the Kunshan Detention Centre. To intensify her suffering, the police pushed her tightly against some metal poles, stretched her arms around the poles and then put a thumbcuff on her thumbs. Ms. Chen was arrested again in July 2002. Four officers dragged her along the ground from her home down some stairs, and she was detained in the brainwashing centre. She was detained for one month. The repeated mental and physical tortures severely damaged her health. Ms. Chen died on June 23rd, 2003, in hospital. -
Ms. Zhang Weien Dies as a Result of Persecution; Police Stages Suicide Scene
2010-07-29Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Weien was arrested by the police on July 6th, 2010. On the third day, officers from the squad took Mr. Zhang back home in a car. However, Mr. Zhang was found dead when his family returned home. The officers were believed to have staged the scene to make it look like Mr. Zhang had committed suicide by drinking pesticide. Eyewitnesses saw two officers take Mr. Zhang back to his home. It was not clear whether Mr. Zhang was alive or dead at the time. -
Final Words of Mr. Chen Yanru, a Practitioner from Jiangsu Province
2010-07-26Police monitored, arrested and brutally tortured to death Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen Yanru in April 2008 for his belief in the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. In his own words: "As I lie here dying, and about to depart this world, I am determined to write down the incidents of brutal torture and mistreatment that I have experienced, to use as evidence of the evil deeds used by the CCP and to appeal to the world--please remember the atrocities of this persecution." -
Ms. Wu Xiulan from Longhua County, Hebei Province Died as a Result of Persecution
2010-07-23Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wu Xiulan, 76, was arrested on her way to Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province in October 2009 and held in an undisclosed location. Her family was contacted by the authorities at the end of December 2009 and told to pick her up at the Longhua County Detention Centre. Ms. Wu showed symptoms of severe illness and suffered from a distended abdomen. She died on February 5th, 2010. -
His Wife Dead and His Daughter Mentally Disordered, Mr. Yang Fujin Dies as a Result of the Persecution of Falun Gong
2010-07-21Mr. Yang Fujin was a Falun Gong practitioner. His wife, Ms. Yin Fengqin, also a practitioner, died as a result of the persecution on January 29th, 2010. Officials from the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and police department still continued to pressure and intimidate him and he could find nowhere to seek justice. His practitioner daughter, Ms. Yang Lijuan, was persecuted until she developed a mental disorder and could not take care of her two young sons. Having no other alternative, he handed his grandsons to one of his relatives for adoption. Grief stricken, he died recently at the age of 62. -
Ms. Liu Guimin Died as a Result of Force-feeding in 2001 at the Daxing Forced Labour Camp in Beijing
2010-07-17Ms. Liu Guimin from Miyun County, Beijing, went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution in early 2001. She was force-fed highly concentrated salt water in the Daxing Women's Forced Labour Camp. The salt water got into her lungs, which resulted in serious bronchial tube and lung infections. She died on January 7th, 2001. Her two children were only 13 years old and 3 years old. The local 610 Office [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong] in charge of the persecution prevented her family from revealing her death as well as the cause to the outside. That is why there was no report of her case at the time. -
Ms. Liu Shuling, 55, Dies in Harbin Women's Forced Labour Camp
2010-07-16On July 3rd, 2010, Ms. Liu Shuling died in the Harbin Women's Drug Rehabilitation Centre and Forced Labour Camp. Her family rushed to the camp, driving overnight to get there. Her body had been placed in a funeral home. They questioned Director Yang and several guards: "How come she was fine at home, but died in your custody? You must explain the cause." The camp administration answered with hesitation, "She died suddenly due to coronary artery heart disease, and passed out in the toilet." Falun Gong practitioners are brutally persecuted at the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Centre and Forced Labour Camp. The means of persecution are cruel and intense, including being subjected to brainwashing attempts to force them to renounce Falun Gong. -
60-Year-Old Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Zhu Guilian Dies after Torture in Detention
2010-07-16After July 20th, 1999, when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Zhu Guilian, 60, refused to give up her faith and was arrested and imprisoned many times. On April 2009, Ms. Zhu was once again arrested and held in the Dingcheng District Detention Centre in Changde City. On February 2010, Ms. Zhu was tortured to near death, and the guard called her family to take her home. She died on May 5th, 2010. Before her death, Ms. Zhu once described being injected with a certain lethal drug when she was locked up in a mental hospital in Changde City. She said that the drug caused her to vomit and discharge blood. -
Older Practitioner Qin Shifang Died as a Result of Persecution
2010-07-16Practitioner Qin Shifang's health improved after she began practising Falun Gong. Before the 2008 Olympics in China, authorities from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) arrested and persecuted her because she told people the facts about Falun Gong. Ms. Qin was sentenced to a year in prison, where she was given only cornmeal for her meals and forced to stand all day long. The police ordered some inmates who were drug addicts to beat and torture her. Her blood pressure went sky high. With her husband blaming her and her sons pressuring her, she could not resist and signed a guarantee statement to renounce practising Falun Gong against her will. After she was released, she regretted it greatly and cried all day long. Ms. Qin passed away on April 20th, 2010.
