  • Ms. Xie Chunlan from Harbin Arrested, Family Hires a Lawyer to Appeal

    During the October 1st national holiday season, personnel from the National Security Division in Harbin City arrested Falun Gong practitioner Xie Chunlan, who was submitting her household registration in the Xiangfang District Police Department. Ms. Xie's family members refuse to be intimidated by the threats from Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and they decided to hire a human rights lawyer from Beijing to defend Ms. Xie in court.
  • Chongqing Court Fabricates Charges against Falun Gong Practitioners

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Fan Defang is 74 years old. On January 28th, 2005, Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Fan Defang and Ms. Yuan Suxian were arrested by police and sent to Dadukou District Detention Centre. Later Ms. Yuan Suxian died as a result of persecution. On February 28th, 2006, Ms. Fan Defang was prosecuted and received a notice for her hearing on January 20th. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) used the already deceased Ms. Yuan Suxian as a witness in prosecuting Ms. Fan Defang. On June 9th, 2006, Dadukou District Court held the hearing and sentenced Ms. Fan Defang to three years of imprisonment. Later Ms. Fan Defang was sent to the Chongqing Women's Prison.
  • Lawyer Files a Not Guilty Plea for Ms. Gong Shunhui in Miyi County Court Trial

    On November 18th, 2009, the court in Miyi County, Shichuan Province, put practitioner Ms. Gong Shunhui on trial. Ms. Gong's attorney, Li Jinglin of Haosheng Law Firm in Beijing, entered a plea of not guilty for Ms. Gong. During the proceedings, the court staff tried to interfere with the attorney. During the session, the prosecutor, Zhu Zhengfu, interrupted and stopped Ms. Gong from speaking. Attorney Li Jinglin's statement was also interrupted several times. During the recess, the court staff threatened the attorney not to defend his client.
  • Older Practitioner Ms. Jin Lianshun Dies Soon after Release from Detention

    On August 19th, 2009, Ms. Jin Lianshun, 69, told her neighbours while chatting how her severe seizures had been cured. One of the neighbours reported her to the community administration. Soon after she returned home, a group of officers arrested her, and her home was ransacked. The police took all her Falun Gong books and her laptop. They interrogated her and detained her 15 days in the Yanji City Detention Centre. Suddenly facing the terrifying environment, Ms. Jin was shocked. She would speak or shout while sleeping, which disturbed the inmates in the detention centre. The prisoners were afraid that she would die and urged guards to release her quickly, but the authorities refused. She could not get over the stress caused by this incident, and she died a few days later in September 2009.
  • Lawyer Hired to Investigate the Torture of Mr. Liu Yuhe at Jilin Prison

    Mr. Liu Yuhe is a Falun Gong practitioner in Huadian city, Jilin Province. Due to being tortured in detention, he is unable to speak and is suffering from incontinence. Mr. Liu is in the Jilin prison hospital and family members are not allowed to visit him. His family has hired a lawyer to find out who is legally responsible for Liu Yuhe's condition. On November 12th, 2009 Mr. Liu's family members went with their lawyer to Jilin Prison to obtain Mr. Liu's signature. The family members of another practitioner, Shi Wenzhuo, and their lawyer went with them also. The officials there refused to let them see Mr. Liu.
  • How Gongzhuling City Police Officials Persecute Practitioners Is a Reflection of the Nature of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)

    On April 16th, 2009, Political Director Wang De and Director Li Jianqi of the Domestic Security Division of Gongzhuling City Police Department and officer Li Hui from the Taojia Police Station in Gongzhuling City arrested several practitioners. The practitioners' children have repeatedly sought the release of their parents. The officials utilised their power to confiscate practitioners' property and cash. After they arrested these practitioners, they regularly extorted money from their families. By now, they have extorted over 60,000 yuan from Mr. Shen Baogui's wife and 50,000 yuan from Xiao Jie's daughter. However, they are still not satisfied and have refused to release the practitioners.
  • Whether Older Practitioner Ms. Fu Shaozhen of Wuhan City Is Alive or Dead Is Unknown

    Ms. Fu Shaozhen, 65 years old, was arrested on December 25th, 2007, by the Nanhu District local police station when she was distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution. Ms. Fu was sentenced to a three-year prison term. She was transferred to Baofenglu Women's Prison. Holding up display boards in front of banners, her oldest daughter in Hong Kong called for help from the international community to save her mother, Ms. Fu.
  • Sitting Board Torture in Jinan No. 1 Forced Labour Camp, Shandong Province

    Jinan No. 1 Women's Forced Labour Camp in Shandong Province is hell on earth for Falun Gong practitioners. Practitioners who hold a firm belief in Falun Gong and refuse to co-operate with the guards are more often than not detained in small isolation cells. One of the tortures frequently employed is the "Sitting Board", which is extremely painful but does not leave any sign of torture. Practitioners are forced to sit on a small stool all day long. Several days later, their buttocks are raw and bloody, black and blue.
  • Officers in Xinhe Police Station of Changsha City Use Torture to Extort So-called "Confessions" from Falun Gong Practitioners

    On September 22nd, 2009, three Falun Gong practitioners from Changsha City were arrested by police from the Xinhe Police Station as they were explaining the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. Because they didn't cooperate with the police, they were severely beaten and kicked by them, causing serious injuries physically and mentally. Because practitioner Ms. Wan Ping refused to answer any questions, she was beaten and kicked by Wang Nanting, an officer from Xinhe Police Station. In addition, because he slapped her face so many times, she could hear only buzzing sounds inside her ears.
  • Married Couple Arrested and Brainwashed

    On September 9th, 2009, policemen from the National Security Group of Haikou City Police Department arrested Falun Gong practitioners Wang Juan and Huang Ande. The couple was sent to a brainwashing centre and they have been detained ever since. The guards of the brainwashing centre use all kinds of methods to torture determined Falun Gong practitioners, including harassment, cursing, humiliation, beating-up, hanging-up and deprivation of sleep. Their relatives tried to find out where they were, but the police claimed that they did not know anything about them.
  • Persecution of a 69-Year-Old Man from Tangshan City

    In 1999, Mr. Guan Zhenzhu, 69, was arrested for speaking out for justice for Falun Gong. Mr. Guan recalls: "In February 2000, it was extremely cold. All the practitioners detained at the detention centres or brainwashing centres, as well as the criminals, were paraded through the streets on trucks. Finally, when we reached the central square of Qianxi County, a public rally billed as "Public Arrest and Sentencing" was held. All the practitioners from the detention centres were tied neck and heels, and the practitioners held at the brainwashing centres were handcuffed. Practitioner Ms. Zhang Ruiying, who is in her fifties, shouted to the onlookers, "Falun Gong is good!" The officer behind her pulled her backwards by her hair and used the rope around her mouth, like curbing a horse and they let her go only after arriving at the square."
  • Mr. Lu Yunlai Dies Two Months after Release from Forced Labour Camp

    Mr. Lu Yunlai, 47, still persisted in his Falun Gong practice even though he was harassed and detained by the authorities multiple times. On September 28th, 2008, Mr. Lu and his wife were arrested by police and sent to Matougang Detention Centre. Police interrogated Mr. Lu while torturing him with a method referred to as "Roasting the Whole Lamb". Mr. Lu passed out during the interrogation. He was transferred to the the Baimiao Forced Labour Camp for a one-year term. Mr. Lu was brutally beaten and forced to do a long labour shift. By March 2009, after only four months in the labour camp, Mr. Lu Yunlai's health had significantly deteriorated as a result of torture and abuse. He was diagnosed with late stage lung cancer. Lu Yunlai died on October 30th, 2009, two months after being released from Baimiao Forced Labour Camp.
  • Additional Information on the Persecution of Ms. Zhao Guirong in Balinyouqixi County, Inner Mongolia

    Ms. Zhao Guirong was persecuted for over ten years by officials from the local police and Daban Police Stations. In May of 2006, Ms. Zhao was taken to the Huhehaote Women's Forced Labour Camp, where she was detained for one year and nine months. Inside the forced labour camp, Ms. Zhao was monitored by two inmates. One inmate abused her and tried to force her to write a "guarantee statement" renouncing Falun Gong. Then, the forced labour camp officials ordered a person to write a guarantee letter for her. One week later, officials forced Ms. Zhao Huirong to perform labour, such as wrapping chopsticks. When practitioners weren't able to finish their assigned work quota, their detention terms were extended by the officials.
  • Ms. Liu Jingyan, 71, Developed Severe Mental Disorder Due to Gross Abuse at the Harbin Women's Prison

    Elderly Ms. Liu Jingyan and five other practitioners appealed against the persecution of Falun Gong in Hongxinglong, Jiamusi, in July 2008. Police arrested them and took them into custody. The practitioners were sentenced to four years of imprisonment in December 2008, and sent to the Harbin Women's Prison. Ms. Liu has been abused there so severely that she suffers from several illnesses. Although her life is in danger, the prison authorities refuse to release her.
  • Several Practitioners Arrested in Shouguang City, Shandong Province

    On October 17th-18th, 2009, officers from the Shouguang Public Security Bureau arrested practitioner Zhang Mufang, Dong Ailing, and two couples from near Shouguang City, Shandong Province. The practitioners were detained at the Daotian Town Police Station. On October 24th, the police went to Nanci Village in an attempt to arrest practitioner Yang Aihua. After arresting these practitioners, the police immediately contacted their families to extort ten to forty thousand yuan from each family. The family of a practitioner from Beiheya Village had to pay ten thousand yuan for the practitioner's release. The police also ransacked every practitioner's home.
