The Persecution of Practitioners at Changji Prison in Xinjiang Autonomous Region

Practitioner Lu Yongjian was arrested and sentenced in September 2000. In 2001 He was sent to Xiabahu Prison. During the detention, in order to "reform" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] him, prison guards first hit Mr. Lu with sticks. Then they beat him with electric batons. Mr. Lu's body (from the thighs to buttocks) turned black and blue from the beating. He could not sit or lie down due to the torture. He was tortured until he signed a guarantee statement to renounce Falun Gong against his will. However, the persecution of Mr. Lu did not stop. Mr. Lu, in his 60s, was forced to haul bricks along with the young inmates in the brick factory, which is the toughest place in the prison. Mr. Lu was allowed to sleep for only three to four hours each night. He had been detained for three years when he was released in October 2003. -
Police Officer Li Bing from Chifeng City Persecutes Falun Gong Practitioners
2009-11-27In 2008, Li Bing persecuted practitioners more actively due to the Beijing Olympic Games. On April 25th, 2008, Li Bing and around eight other police officers arrested Ms. Ji Yunzhi. Ms. Ji suddenly had symptoms of a heart attack and she lost consciousness at the scene. Despite this, the police lifted her into the police vehicle and took her to the detention centre. The police laid Ms. Ji down on the cold cement floor for more than an hour, with no regard for the fact that her condition was so grave. The prison doctor brutally persecuted her, claiming that they were only trying to save her. They used needles to pierce her, which caused her head and many areas on her feet to bleed. They even stabbed a needle under her nose. -
71-Year-Old Ms. Su Zebi Dies Soon after Being Released from Forced Labour Camp
2009-11-26On May 19th, 2008, police arrested 71-year-old Ms. Su Zebi and she was sentenced to one year in Shabao Women's Forced Labour Camp. Practitioners were forced to read books slandering Falun Gong and were forced to write reports to "correct their thinking." If they were reluctant, they were beaten and deprived of sleep. They had to perform forced labour. Practitioners had to wrap more than 60 pounds of confectionary every day, fold 350 boxes for packing down jackets, and sew details on six pairs of trousers. Ms. Su Zebi suffered serious physical and psychological injuries. After she returned home on June 1st, 2009, police harassed her and she died on November 14th. -
The Persecution of Older Practitioner Miao Maoling at the Qinghai Province Women's Forced Labour Camp
2009-11-26Ms. Miao Maoling was a retired worker from the Xining City Train Station. She was sentenced to forced labour twice, imprisoned for three years, forced to endure brainwashing sessions for several months, harassed by police officials on numerous occasions, and her home was ransacked several times. She was severely injured, both emotionally and physically. At the forced labour camp, she was shocked with electric batons, suffered physical torture, intense labour, three months of military training, and overexposure to the sun in the heat of summer. -
Practitioners Treated Like Slaves in Benxi Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning Province
2009-11-26Guards in Benxi City Forced Labour Camp not only brainwash and torture practitioners but also force them to perform strenuous hard labour to produce products for the camp. Practitioners are forced to straighten diodes by hand. They have sticky chemical substances on them which is harmful to the labourers' health. Practitioners have a quota of 40 boxes of diodes per week. The practitioners have to straighten the diodes in the early morning and later are forced to take brainwashing classes. From noon to 9 p.m., the practitioners are forced to straighten diodes. The practitioners have to earn 30,000 yuan for the camp each year. -
Elderly Practitioner Ms. Fu Shulan Sentenced to Six Years in Prison
2009-11-26On July 30th, 2009, the Jiangan District Court sentenced Ms. Fu Shulan to six years' imprisonment. Ms. Fu is currently being detained in Fanjiatai Prison in Shanyang. Ms. Fu's family were shocked to see Ms. Fu's disfigured appearance. Ms. Fu's face was severely swollen, she was lame and there were blood stains on her hands. Ms. Fu told her family, "They detained me in a small room for a year, I never received the 400 yuan you sent to me every month, and the handcuffs cut into my flesh and caused the bleeding." -
Mr. Tin Jinzhi Dies in Custody, His Body Cut Open
2009-11-25Mr. Tian Jinzhi was a healthy man with a pure heart, and followed the principles of Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance. He went out on October 1st, 2009 as he normally did, but he never returned home and his whereabouts were unknown. On October 11th, 2009, his family was suddenly notified by the Kuiwen District Police Department that Mr. Tian Jinzhi died around October 10th, 2009 while in custody. Mr. Tian's family is very angry, as they cannot believe such a healthy man could die in custody in such a short time period unless he was tortured severely. They were horrified to find that his body had been cut open and his organs seemed to have been removed. They are strongly doubting the cause of his death, as the police told them they cut open his body to find out the cause of death. -
Ruthlessly Persecuted by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Authorities After Falun Gong Turned Me into a Good Person
2009-11-25Fifty-five-year-old Mr. Xie recounts some of the tortures inflicted on him in Wutong Detention Centre in 2002: "They inserted a toothbrush between my fingers, tightened my fingers around it, and then twisted the brush left and right until the skin and the flesh were lacerated. As a result the fingers on my right hand festered for more than 40 days; two people pinned me to the ground and forced me to sit against the wall. Two criminals stepped on my legs and walked on them until my legs were black and blue, which only disappeared weeks later; I was forced to stand still against a wall. The evildoers punched the right and left sides of my chest and waist with their elbows until I collapsed." -
Assistant Professor Imprisoned for Three Years
2009-11-25In 2002, Ms. Yang Yongping was sentenced to a three-year prison term in the Heilongjiang Provincial Women's Prison, where she was persecuted because of her Falun Gong practice. Ms. Yang recalls her persecution: "We were forced to do hard labour for at least 14 hours each day from 5:30 a.m. until after 10:00 p.m. We were allowed only a few minutes to have meals. Some practitioners went on a labour strike and hunger strikes to protest. The guards forced us to squat for a long time. In December, they dragged us outside to stand in the snow from 8:00 a.m. to after 4:00 p.m. without warm clothing, and we were not allowed to move a bit. Some practitioners were forced to lie on their stomachs on a hill of snow." -
Brutal Torture Inside Jinan Women's Detention Centre
2009-11-25In November, 2007, Ms. Yao Guihua said to the guards in Jinan Women's Detention Centre that it was not right to be "reformed" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong]. She was detained in a segregation room. Guards and prisoners took turns trying to "reform" her, but she was very determined and shouted firmly, "Falun Gong is good." They got very angry, stuffed a piece of dirty cloth into her mouth, and continued beating and cursing at her. Ms. Yao's legs were struck so hard that they became numb and she could not walk. -
Mr. Liu Qunming, 56, Dies as a Result of Persecution
2009-11-24In 2008, the police arrested a large number of Falun Gong practitioners around the time of the Olympics. On July 7th, 2008, officers broke into Mr. Liu Qunming's home, arrested him, and ransacked his home. Police planned to detain Mr. Liu for 15 days and then send him to a forced labour camp on July 19th. Due to Mr. Liu being on a hunger strike after his arrest, he appeared very sick. The labour camp refused to accept him and he was released. His daughter had to leave home to avoid being arrested. Mr. Liu never recovered from the abuse that he suffered during detention, and he died on the morning of October 27th, 2009. -
Senior Citizen Li Baolin Was Hung Up by One Arm for Ten Day
2009-11-24Mr. Li Baoline has been harassed several times by the police for practising Falun Gong. He has been sentenced to forced labour camp for a year and nine months. The then 66-year-old Mr. Li Baolin was hung up by one arm for ten days, and he was also forced to stand for a long time. During this time, the police slapped him several times and he was left with sequelae. His right arm kept shaking and could hardly hold anything steadily. -
Ms. Xu Lixiu Recounts the Persecution that She and Her Family Have Suffered Since 1999
2009-11-24The following is a statement by Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xu Lixiu about the persecution suffered by her: "In 1999, I went to Beijing to appeal against the persecution of Falun Gong. Police sentenced me to one year in a forced labour camp. I went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Police instructed a doctor to force-feed me. It was very brutal. They used a triangle-shaped iron clip to force open my mouth and fixed the clip with bolts and nuts. After that, they inserted a plastic tube into my mouth to my stomach and vigourously stirred it in my stomach. They asked me, 'Are you going to eat or not?' If I did not reply, they would open my mouth wide, which was already badly torn." -
Mr. Dong Guozhao and His Wife Ms. Liao Liqing from Chuxiong City, Yunnan Province Arrested Again
2009-11-24On October 28th, 2009, police from the Domestic Security Division of Wuding County Police Department arrested Mr. Dong Guozhao, 57, and his wife, Ms. Liao Liqing, 51. They are currently detained at the Wuding County Detention Centre. In, 2004, Mr. Dong gave a DVD about the persecution and the beauty of Falun Gong to his former co-worker. The co-worker then reported him to the bureau. As a result, Chuxiong City Police Department ransacked his home. Two days later, on April 17th, 2004, Mr. Dong was sent to a prison and detained until January 4th, 2007. -
Older Practitioner Ms. Yu Shuhua Dies as a Result of Persecution

After the persecution started on July 20th, 1999, Ms. Yu,63, upheld her belief in Falun Gong. In 2001, in order to avoid being forced to go to a brainwashing centre, Ms. Yu and her son had to leave home. Whenever they came back home for a little while, the police would immediately come to harass them. During the 2008 Olympic season police were repeatedly looking for her, and threatened her relatives. Under long term persecution and eight years of living away from home, she died on October 12th, 2009 and now her son is all alone.
