Due to long term persecution, his health suffered severely and he passed away in the spring of 2008. In 2007 he was sent to the Legal Centre of Benxi Forced Labour Camp to force him to renounce Falun Gong. The guards used all sorts of methods, both harsh and soft approaches, to undermine practitioners' resolve. During the night, guards came to harass practitioners, reading out loud articles that slandered Falun Gong. The guards also forced practitioners to watch TV and videos filled with lies about Falun Gong. They did not hesitate to use violence on anyone that did not agree with their propaganda.
  • Qufu District Court Tries Mr. Zhao Genfa

In the preceding days, Qufu Court officials changed the trial venue several times. This was not a case of an official need for a trial in a "different location." Qufu Court officials simply arranged to "borrow" a small courtroom that could only accommodate 20 to 30 people from the First Criminal Court of the Zhong District Court. These changes and postponements by Qufu Court officials suggest that they were trying to hide something, because this was the first time a Falun Gong practitioner had ever been tried in Qufu. It wasn't clear what kind of charges were to be filed against Mr. Zhao.
