  The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Swedish Ambassador in Thailand delivered an official note, requesting an “immediate explanation” from the Thai authorities. As of May 30th, the Thai government still had not provided an explanation as to why Mrs. Svensson had been detained.

• Denmark: The Chinese Embassy has Unreasonably Denied my Passport Application

  The clerk said: “We cannot grant your application”, and then returned my old passport and application form. When I asked him why this was so, he said that it was because I practise Falun Gong, which is illegal in China. He also mentioned that it is China’s policy not to process passport applications that are filed by Falun Gong practitioners. When I asked him to give me a written explanation, he said: “Apart from an oral notification, I cannot provide you with any document.”

• Radio France Internationale (RFI): Falun Gong Practitioner Charles Li Suffers Force Feeding Through Tubes Whilst Imprisoned in China

  'On the phone, Charles Li said that he had been ill-treated and force-fed. According to the UN human rights annual report, force feeding is often used as a torture technique on detainees who are on hunger strike. The hunger striker severely suffers during the force-feeding procedure or even chokes to death.'

  Before boarding the plane, Mrs. Svensson read out a statement that she had written earlier that day. The Swedish Ambassador then made a statement to Pirjo’s friends, the reporters and the Thai police. In his statement, the Ambassador recognised the innocence of Pirjo and expressed his regret for the Thai government's ignorance of Pirjo’s rights as well as their failure to maintain the promise of protecting human rights.
