  • Falun Gong Practitioner Liang Rongqi from Duyun City Sentenced to Six Years of Imprisonment

    On January 6th, 2011, a Duyun City Court judge in Guizhou Province went to Qiannanzhou Detention Centre and sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Liang Rongqi to six years of imprisonment. Mr. Liang's family members came to the detention centre to see him, but they were not allowed in. The court did not give the verdict to his family members. Mr. Liang appealed to the Qiannanzhou Intermediate Court.
  • Tianjin Judge Forces Ms. Dong Huiyue to Dismiss Her Lawyer

    Practitioners Ms. Wang Xiuwen, Ms. Li Chunjuan, Ms. Gao Chunping, and Ms. Dong Huiyue were arrested in August 2010. The Ninghe Public Security Departments planned to try them. Ms. Dong Huiyue was released on bail, but the three other practitioners are being held in the Ninghe Detention Centre. On January 10th, Ms. Dong was summoned to the court. Judge Li Changxi tried to force her to write a repentance statement to renounce practising Falun Gong and ordered her to dismiss her lawyer. Ms. Dong refused to comply. She said, “Falun Gong is good. It is not wrong to practise Falun Gong. I was told I could have a lawyer. The constitution grants me the right to a lawyer.” The judge then detained her.
  • Sentenced Practitioner Chen Hongli Shouts "Falun Gong Is Good"

    A public sentencing rally was held on the morning of January 13th, 2011, at Lixiang Square in the city centre of Qianxi County, Tangshan, Hebei Province. People from every department were scheduled to attend, and there were many on-site spectators. Police escorted over a dozen people to the rally, including thieves, robbers, murderers, and rapists. They deliberately included Falun Gong practitioner Chen Hongli among them. When the director read the verdict, he announced only the jail term of Mr. Chen, but not the reason for sentencing. When two police officers attempted to handcuff Chen Hongli, he shouted "Falun Gong is good! Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!"
  • Gongzhuling Prison in Jilin Province Has Restricted Falun Gong Practitioners' Visitation Rights for 11 Years

    For eleven years, Gongzhuling Prison in Jilin Province has followed the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) mandate to persecute Falun Gong practitioners and implemented the requirements of the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong). Visitors must have a letter from the local 610 Office before visiting Falun Gong practitioners, and they will be asked if they practise Falun Gong at the checkpoint. They will not be allowed to visit without fulfilling these two requirements. It was announced recently that only immediate family members will be allowed to visit. Mr. Zhao Guo, a practitioner from Jilin, has been detained in Gongzhuling Prison for almost four years, and his parents have never had a chance to visit him.
  • Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Cai Rong Recounts Brutal Persecution

    Ms. Cai Rong was persecuted many times during the past ten years. She was grossly abused and mistreated in the Jiamusi Forced Labour Camp during her two terms. She recounts her experience in the labour camp: "Several practitioners and I used to tear down slogans that slandered Falun Gong's founder. The guards were aggressive about abusing and mistreating practitioners. Zhu Tiehong banged my head against a wall. I was dizzy and saw stars. Guards Li Xiujin and Jiang Jianan hit me ferociously, slapping my cheeks and kicking me with their leather boots. I was beaten black and blue all over my body. Even after few months, I was still covered with dark bruises."
  • Torture Suffered by Ms. Li Chunxiao, Teacher from Dalian City

    Ms. Li Chunxiao is a teacher and Falun Gong practitioner. She was arrested in December 2004 and sentenced to three years of imprisonment. When she was brought to the local police station, officers promised that she would be released if she provided her e-mail account. When she did so, however, the police hacked into her e-mail account and detained her on the charge of having Falun Gong exposing the persecution of Falun Gongn content in her e-mail. In the Liaoning Women’s Prison, Ms. Chunxiao was brutally tortured through sleep deprivation, having freezing water poured on her, being restricted in a small box for long periods of time, and other methods. Ms. Chunxiao went on a hunger strike twice in order to protest the persecution, but was force-fed by prison officials and criminal inmates.
  • Practitioners from Xiqin Township, Shuangcheng City in Heilongjiang Province Severely Tortured

    Mr. Na Zhenxian was arrested on the evening of February 27th, 2004, and taken to Shuangcheng City No. 2 Detention Centre. He was later sentenced to two years in Changlingzi Forced Labour Camp. On September 16th, 2005, Mr. Na was tortured to death. Mr. Kou Fangqi, 42, went to the Heilongjiang provincial government to appeal. He was arrested and taken to a brainwashing centre in 1999. In 2000, he was arrested again. Police viciously beat Mr. Kou, while another officer, held a knife and threatened to cut open Mr. Kou’s abdomen.
  • Police Refuse to Release Mr. Zhang Jingzhou Despite Serious Illness

    Practitioner Mr. Zhang Jingzhou was arrested on the morning of December 13th, by police near the Dongxihu District Court in Wuhan. Mr. Zhang was deprived of sleep for several days and brutally tortured. After being held for fifteen days, he was taken to a detention centre, but guards refused to accept him due to his high blood pressure. Disregarding his poor physical condition, the police didn’t release him. During the eleven years of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong, Mr. Zhang maintained a firm belief in Falun Gong, and subsequently has been arrested and detained many times. He was sentenced to “re-education” through forced labour twice, and forcibly brainwashed. His home was ransacked several times.
  • Additional Information Concerning the Death of Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Yu Quan from Jilin

    Sixty-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yu Quan was persecuted to death on December 11th, 2010, by Public Security Bureau police in Jilin. She was handcuffed to a hospital bed before she died. The police also threatened her family on the day of her death. Ms. Yu had been arrested on April 25th, 2009, and held in Jilin Detention Centre. On December 10th, 2010, detention centre personnel informed Ms. Yu's family unexpectedly that she had been transferred to a tuberculosis hospital in Jilin. When her family went to see her in the hospital, they found her extremely emaciated. She died a day later.
  • Older Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Guo Wenying from Lanzhou Persecuted

    Since July 20th, 1999, Ms. Guo Wenying has been subjected to long term detentions and persecution for not giving up her belief. She was sentenced to six years of imprisonment in 2003, suffered all kinds of torture in the Gansu Women's Prison, and was held in solitary confinement for over four months. Ms. Guo was hung up by her handcuffs on a steel roller door, with her toe tips just barely touching the ground. The guards sent prisoners to frequently ask her whether she would still practise. When she did not answer, they tortured her with several high voltage electric batons, leaving bloody wounds everywhere on her face and head.
  • Chenzhou 610 Office Arrested Ms. Chen Binge and Extorted Money from Her Daughter

    On October 12th, 2010, police broke into Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Chen Binge’s home, arrested her and forced to attend a brainwashing session. In the class, several CCP members dragged her by her arms, causing severe bruising. When she asked them why they were being so rough, they replied, “It’s because you should not study Falun Gong.” Ms. Chen went on a hunger strike to resist the persecution. They tried everything, including threats and promises to release her, to get Ms. Chen to write a pledge to not practise Falun Gong anymore. Ms. Chen refused to sign, so they extorted 1,824 yuan from her daughter.
  • Dandong City Procuratorate Persecutes the Shao Sisters

    Zhenxing District Court in Dandong City, Liaoning Province tried practitioners Ms. Shao Changfen and Shao Changhua on December 24th. During their defence of the practitioners, two Beijing lawyers pointed out that practising Falun Gong is exercising their freedom of belief. Freedom of belief is a basic human right. The court could not dispute the lawyers' justifiable defence. The judge announced a recess until further notice. Ten days later, the court sentenced Shao Changfen and Shao Changhua to seven years and four years of prison, respectively, without holding another open hearing.
  • Shiling Prison Refusing to Release Liu Dapeng

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Dapeng has been held in Shiling Prison for eight full years. According to the rules on accumulating points for working at the prison, he should have been released on December 20th, 2010, but Shiling Prison has not released him. Liu Dapeng’s family is now making an all-out effort to rescue him. Before the persecution started on July 20th, 1999, Liu Dapeng was the local Falun Gong practice site coordinator. He was arrested while on his way to Beijing to appeal in December 1999. He was then sentenced to one year in prison.
  • Suining Police Torture Elderly Practitioners

    On July 5th and 16th, 2009, officers from the Wanglin Police Station arrested Mr. Shao Kailian and Mr. Zhang Buhue both of whom are in their 60s. The police ransacked their homes, and the two elderly practitioners were taken to the police station and beaten. In order to force the two practitioners to give in and renounce their faith, the police officers put sand bags on their necks. The two practitioners fainted soon after because of the burning pain from the 50 lb load. The police then put them down and poured cold water on their heads. After the elderly practitioners awoke, the police continued torturing them. During the torture, Yan Dong boasted about how brutal he had been when previously torturing female Falun Gong practitioners.
  • Persecution of Ms. Li Yumei from Shuangcheng, Heilongjiang Province

    Ms. Li Yumei was persecuted many times by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) because she refused to renounce practising Falun Gong. She recounts her experience: "On January 17th, 2001, I went to appeal in Beijing and displayed a banner that read “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” at Tiananmen Square. I was arrested there and sent to Daxing County Detention Centre, where I went on a hunger strike. The authorities intravenously injected me every two days. I would not cooperate, and was kicked and beaten by criminals. I was then shackled, and dragged out and tied to a bed to be connected to the IV. My weight declined rapidly, my mouth was dry, and my gums bled. My mouth foamed when I talked, and I fainted once because my blood pressure was so low."
