  • Over Seventy Falun Gong Practitioners Detained in Brainwashing Centre at the Zhangjiakou City Forced Labour Camp During the Beijing Olympic Games

    During the Beijing Olympic Games, officials from the National Security Ministry and the Hebei Provincial 610 Office came to Zhangjiakou City in person to check on how the persecution of Falun Gong was going. Brainwashing centres were set up in Zhangjiakou City Forced Labour Camp. They arrested more than seventy Falun Gong practitioners from eleven districts and counties throughout the city. They sent the practitioners to the brainwashing centres and persecuted them for over two months. Those that resisted the brainwashing were beaten.
  • Ms. Xu Yan and Her Husband Tortured by Police from Huailai County, Hebei Province

    On July 9th, 2008, police ransacked the home of Mr. Ni Jinxing, his wife Ms. Xu Yan and arrested them. At the police station, Mr. Ni saw his wife locked into a cage and sitting on the ground. It was cold and he took off his coat and tried to hand it to his wife, but the police prevented him from doing so. They took him to a cell and started to interrogate him, but to no avail. After quite a long time, they got tired and shackled his hands to a metal chair, known as the "tiger bench". Ms. Xu was sentenced to one year of forced labour.
  • Practitioners Ms. Hu Ying and Ms. Na Yuying from Diaobingshan City, Liaoning Province Severely Persecuted

    Practitioners Ms. Hu Ying and Ms. Na Yuying were recently arrested. Ms. Hu Ying was detained in Tieling City, where she became extremely emaciated due to maltreatment. She was no longer able to eat. The police refused to allow her family to see her. Three days ago, she was transferred to the detention centre in Diaobingshan City. The other practitioner, Ms. Na Yuying, suffered heart attacks from the mistreatment, and was sent to the hospital twice.
  • Persecution Suffered by Mr. Chen Changyuan from Chongqing City

    Mr. Chen Changyuan, 48, was persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) after he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. In 2000 he was sent to Xishanping Forced Labour Camp for a one year term. Mr. Chen suffered from hunger in the camp. Each morning, he was only given a very small amount of rice buns to eat. Each day, his food intake was only about 150 grams. In the labour camp, Mr. Chen suffered many kinds of torture, such as standing in a military pose for long periods of time, being hung up in the air, being beaten and shocked with electric batons, long-term outside exposure to the heat of summer and cold of winter, and deprivation of food and water. When he still refused to compromise, his term was extended for one year. In 2002, he was released and returned home.
  • Ms. Cong Peijing from Dalian City, Liaoning Province Has Difficulty Walking after Suffering Police Abuse

    Ms. Cong Peijing was arrested by police on October 14th, 2008. During the arrest, her spine was re-injured. She is now imprisoned in the Yaojia Detention Centre in Dalian City. She has been arrested by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) 6 or 7 times and suffered brutal persecution. A part of her spine was fractured and dislocated in 2001. In order to escape from the CCP, she jumped from a high window of a police station in Jinzhou District, injuring her spine. Afterwards, she was tortured numerous times by the CCP. As a result, her spine was never able to fully recover. In August 2006, she was arrested by officers from the Wanli Police Station. She went on a hunger strike to protest against persecution at the Yaojia Detention Centre and was subjected to force-feeding. She was tortured to the verge of death.
  • Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Li Yan Again Sent to Forced Labour Camp in Beijing

    Ms. Li Yan was arrested for the second time prior to the Olympic Games, and sentenced to two and a half years in Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp. Li Yan was first sentenced to forced labour in 2005. Because she refused to "transform," [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] she was forced to sit on a bench for over twenty hours every day and deprived of sleep. Li Yan was tortured to the point of mental collapse.
  • Ms. Gao Zhenfen Died as a Result of Persecution in Dalian City, Liaoning Province

    Ms. Gao Zhenfen was a Falun Gong practitioner who lived in Dalian City, Liaoning Province. On June 5th, 2006, four police officers arrested Ms. Gao on Anyang Street. She was rushed to the March Eighth Square Hospital when she suffered a stroke while in custody. Her friends and family picked her up after she partially recovered. However, she suffered another stroke and died on March 15th, 2007. Details are under investigation.
  • Mr. Shi Changlin Dies from Persecution in Liaoning Province

    Mr. Shi Changlin was persecuted many times for practising Falun Gong. After being detained in the Yi County Detention Centre for three months, Mr. Shi was sentenced to two years of forced labour and taken to the Wangtun Labour Camp in Jinzhou City. While he was detained doing forced labour, Mr. Shi refused to give up his faith, and he was tortured cruelly. The guards tied him with ropes and forced him to sit on wooden boards for a long time. He vomited and passed out due to the mental and physical abuse. In the summer of 2008, there was a large-scale arresting spree during the pre-Olympics season that included Yi County. This terror caused Mr. Shi Changlin extreme pain and tension. His weak body could not bear such huge mental pressure any longer and he died on July 15th, 2008.
  • Practitioner Mr. Jia Zhijun from Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province, Tortured

    In July 2002, Mr. Jia Zhijun, a 41-year-old Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested. At Fenggou Police Station, police coerced a confession from Mr. Jia through torture. They forced him to semi-squat and raise both hands like "riding a motorcycle" for painfully long periods. Policemen tied up Mr. Jia with rope and then exerted all their strength to step on his hands after they were handcuffed. Generally, the wrist will be broken if it is stepped on in such a way. The police tied both his hands behind his back, hung him up by his hands and beat him. It is said that if such torture lasts one to two minutes, it will be very painful and hard to endure. Mr. Jia still cannot turn or raise his right arm.
  • Ms. Yang Shufen Sentenced to Eight Years Imprisonment in Xishui County, Hubei Province

    After Jiang Zemin's [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] regime began the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Yang Shufen, 44 years old, went to Beijing to appeal for justice and was arrested by the Beijing police. After that she endured repeated arrests by police. In April 2007, police arrested her in Wuhan City. After she was imprisoned for over a year at the Xishui Detention Centre, she was sentenced to an additional eight years on a fabricated charge. Her appeal was turned down. In the beginning of September 2008, she was taken to the Wuhan Women's Prison. Since then, her family has not received any messages or information about her current situation and are deeply concerned about her safety.
  • 60-Year-Old Practitioner Tortured at Hohhot Forced Labour Camp

    On July 4th, 2005, I was reported to the police while I distributed Falun Gong fliers in a remote mountainous area. Police arrested me and detained me at the Ningcheng County Detention Centre. Officer Lu Zhihe handcuffed me to an iron chair, slapped me, hit my head with a metal clip. On December 13th, 2005, I was sentenced to three years of forced labour. The camp tried to coerce me to "transform" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong], but I refused. I was nearly sixty years old. I was forced to shoulder goods up and down stairs between different floors. I passed out from exhaustion. One day, I fell down the stairs because I became faint due to my high blood pressure. My leg was injured and I was unable to stand up.
  • Please Help Rescue My Mother, Detained for the Fifth Time for Practising Falun Gong

    My 65-year-old mother's name is Fu Shaozhen. She was arrested on December 25th, 2007 for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution. The Wuhan 610 Office deceived my family by saying that they would release my mother immediately after the Olympic Games was over. The Olympic Games has finished, but my mother has not been released. She is still imprisoned and being tortured.
  • China Central Television Broadcasts a Fabricated Programme about a Falun Gong Practitioner in Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp

    CCTV's (China Central Television's) "Sky Net" TV programme showed a prison guard patiently and kindly helping to "transform" a so-called "Falun Gong practitioner." After seeing this, everyone was startled, because that so-called Falun Gong practitioner was, in fact, not a practitioner at all, but a criminal inmate. What actually takes place there is that, if you aren't "transformed" (that is, if you don't succumb to the pressure and renounce your belief in Falun Gong), you aren't allowed to sleep and you're insulted, beaten, and scolded, among other forms of torture. CCTV and Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp colluded to create a false news story to deceive the Chinese public.
  • Nearly Seventy-year-old Mr. Gao Guangchong Sent to Forced Labour Camp in Sichuan Province

    After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong in July 1999, elderly Mr. Gao Guangchong was arrested eleven times. He was imprisoned in forced labour camps on numerous occasions, suffering inhumane torture each time. His home was often ransacked and twice he was forced into homelessness to avoid being arrested. On October 14th, 2007, over thirty police officers forcibly entered Mr. Gao's home and arrested him. On March 28th, 2008, the Huili County CCP Procuratorate and Court put Mr. Gao on trial. As a result of the torture he suffered while being detained, Mr. Gao's whole body was severely swollen from oedema, making it very difficult for him to stand. In September 2008 Mr. Gao's family members were finally informed that he had been sentenced to three years in a Forced Labour Camp and was taken there on October 16th, 2008.
  • Ms. He Xueping Arrested Again After Recent Release from Labour Camp

    Ms. He Xueping, a practitioner from Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, has been suffering from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) persecution for a long time. She had just been released from Sanshui Women's Forced Labour Camp on June 30th, 2008, when she was arrested again on September 2nd. Informants stated that Ms. He Xueping's current arrest was made in retaliation for her report on the persecution in the Sanshui Forced Labour Camp.
