  • Atrocities against Falun Gong Practitioners at Liaoning Province Women's Prison

    Practitioner Liu Guifen was in her 50s when agents from the Benxi City Court sentenced her to eight years in prison in 2002. She was brutally tortured with many inhuman methods, including the "Tiger Bench". Practitioner Wang Chunxiang is in her 50s. The Dandong City Court sentenced her to eight years in prison in 2007. She has since been held at the Liaoning Province Women's Prison. A prison guard ordered inmates to whack Wang Chunxiang in the head with the soles of hard boots and kick her in the genitals because she persisted in her belief in Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance.
  • Mr. Zhou Xiangyang and Mr. Li Yuanyong Brutally Mistreated in Gangbei Prison, Tianjin City

    Zhou Xiangyang, 32, was sentenced to nine years in prison and taken to Gangbei Prison in Tianjin City. In 2005, prison guards confined Mr. Zhou in a solitary cell simply because he protested the brainwashing he was forced to endure. Mr. Li Yuanyong was determined not to wear the prison uniform [Note: because practitioners have committed no crime and should not be incarcerated, they sometimes protest the persecution by refusing to wear the prison uniform, recite the prison regulations, or do forced labour]. The eight inmates who monitored Mr. Li beat him.
  • Painter Ms. Xu Na Imprisoned in the Seventh Section of the Beijing Police Department

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xu Na, 40 is a well-known painter. Her husband Mr. Yu Zhou, a famous Chinese folk singer, was tortured to death by police during the Chinese New Year. Ms. Xu Na is currently being imprisoned in Beijing. Her trial has been put on hold because the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is afraid of international attention to her and her husband. Ms. Xu has overcome many difficulties to appeal for justice in the case of her husband's death while she is still in prison.
  • Ms. Song Yulian and Ms. Gao Guofeng Tortured in Heilongjiang Province

    Ms. Song Yulian is currently detained at the Qianjin Forced Labour Camp. Guards tortured Ms. Song with the "big hang up" and shocked her with electric batons, but were unable to force her to write the three statements to renounce Falun Gong or succumb to the brainwashing. Another Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Gao Guofeng, is also detained in the Qianjin Forced Labour Camp. Her tail bone is fractured due to brutal beatings by the guards, and she suffers from starvation.
  • Practitioners Unjustly Tried by Suizhong County Court, Liaoning Province

    On May 12th and 13th, 2008, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents from Suizhong County in Huludao City of Liaoning Province manipulated court staff to carry out an illegal trial against nine Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Zhou Yingchun and Ms.Yang Zhaoying were tried while they were confined to their beds at Suizhong County Hospital with IVs and on oxygen. During the process of the so-called trial, Ms. Yang had a heart attack, her hands and legs were shaking non-stop and doctors and nurses in the hospital had to resuscitate her. When this happened, court staff Guan Shulin and people from the procuratorate read the bureaucratic documents very fast and then just a few minutes later, they quickly left.
  • Mr. Song Bangfu and Other Practitioners in Guizhou Province Brutally Tortured

    On May 8th, 2008, practitioner Mr. Song Bangfu was arrested at another practitioner's home. He was beaten by seven or eight police officers. The police then dragged him away. The onlookers said his face was a mess from the beating. His whole body was covered with injuries. His belt was used to tie his hands behind his back. Besides his belt, the police also used some ropes and handcuffs to tie his hands. The handcuffs were so tight that they cut into his flesh and his wrists were bleeding, and his trousers were pulled down. The police dragged him and beat him at the same time. Mr. Song Bangfu has still not been released. Police continue to interrogate him around the clock.
  • Jiujiang City "610 Office" Agents in Jiangxi Province Arrest Many Falun Gong Practitioners

    Officials from the Jiujiang Domestic Security Department, the Politics and Law Committee, and the 610 Office recently commenced another round of persecution and suppression of Falun Gong under the pretext of "Olympic Safety" and "Harmonious Society." Besides sending citizens "public letters" via mobile phone text message to emphasize the "urgency" of this campaign, they hired more than one thousand local security men--mostly jobless and retired people--to monitor, harass and arrest practitioners, in complete violation of the Chinese constitution.
  • Liu Xia's Confinement in a Forced Labour Camp Extended "Because of the Olympics"

    Ms. Liu Xia, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Xinyang in Henan Province. Her three-year prison term at a forced labour camp was scheduled to end in April 2008. However, authorities at Xinxiang Women's Forced Labour Camp refused to release Ms. Liu Xia, citing the Olympic Games as an excuse. Ms. Liu's family has been told she will be released when the Olympic Games end. Are the "Olympic Games" a reason to extend a prison term? Do other countries do this when they hold Olympic Games? We wish everyone to understand what the CCP is doing for the Olympic Games.
  • The Long-Term Persecution of Ms. Zhang Shujie from Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia

    On November 5th, 2005, police broke into and ransacked Ms. Zhang Shujie's home. She was sent to a detention centre along with other practitioners. It was in the cold of winter. To torture the practitioners, the police ordered criminal inmates to strip the practitioners and pour cold water on them. Ms. Zhang went on a hunger strike to protest the abusive treatment. The police took her into a hospital and force-fed her for five days. On December 5th, 2005, Ms. Zhang was taken to Tumuji Forced Labour Camp. Ms. Zhang was forced to work over eleven and a half hours every day and had to finish her work quota. Given the intense hard labour and mental pressure, Ms. Zhang showed symptoms of a lung infection and had difficulty breathing. On January 25th, 2008, Ms. Zhang was released.
  • Mr. Sun Xi Tortured and Disabled at Tiebei Prison in Changchun City, Jilin Province

    I am a Falun Gong practitioner from Yanji City, Jilin Province. The police arrested me in October 2000 and took me to Tiebei Prison in Changchun. I was tortured there beginning in the spring of 2002. On January 10th, 2003, a group of six male criminal inmates was ordered to torture me. First, they drew a circle on the floor and made me stand in the middle. If I moved, they would beat me. Then, although it was wintertime, they made me stand outside in the cold for an entire day and night. On the second night, they beat me again without let up for an hour and a half. They broke one of my ribs in the process, but they still did not stop. An inmate hit me brutally all over with a bricklayer's hammer wrapped in rubber. They hit me so much that I almost died. Because of this torture, the muscles in my feet have atrophied, and it is extremely difficult for me to walk. I still have not recovered; I am almost paralysed.
  • Ms. Zeng Xiumei in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, Persecuted in a Forced Labour Camp, One Lung Seriously Injured

    On March 13th, 2008, police took Ms. Zeng Xiumei to a brainwashing centre in Zhanjiang City. They also took her young son, traumatizing him mentally and physically. Ms. Zeng was sent to the Hainan Province General Bureau Forced Labour Camp, where she was beaten and force-fed. She was beaten black and purple, and one of her lungs was badly damaged. On April 30th, Zeng Xiumei, who by then was just skin and bones, was released. The police dropped her off at the curb and quickly left.
  • Ruthless Reform Methods in Heizuizi Women's Prison in Changchun City

    Ms. Zhang Shuqin was imprisoned in the 8th Division. Two criminals watched her constantly as she underwent brainwashing. She was locked in confinement for several months. Seriously traumatized, she suddenly broke out of the confinement one day, and her four limbs were shaking constantly. From then on, she spoke unintelligibly and had blank stares. She would forget what she had just said. She always complained about headaches and looked pathetic. After that, the prison guards moved her to the prison's Education Ward, but her physical condition still did not improve. Having suffered from severe mental torment and physical torture, she was diagnosed with depression.
  • Dalian Foreign Language Institute Teacher Mr. Liu Shan Arrested and Missing

    At 8:00 a.m. on May 13th, 2008, as Liu Shan left for work, agents from the 610 Office arrested him. He is still missing. His wife and three-year-old son remained at home. Police wanted to break in but failed. Later on the mother and son disappeared, and no one knows their whereabouts. Mr. Liu was well known as a good teacher, particularly since he began practising Falun Gong. He was arrested twice before for practising Falun Gong.
  • Ms. Zhu Guoying Persecuted to the Point of Mental Collapse in Jiamusi City Forced Labour Camp

    In March 2008, many Falun Gong practitioners detained at Jiamusi City Forced Labour Camp were handcuffed and beaten. Although the persecution was exposed to the outside world, the labour camp authorities continued torturing the practitioners. Among them, Ms. Zhu Guoying had a mental collapse due to the torture. Since the persecution began on July 20th, 1999, Ms. Zhu has been arrested, detained and her home ransacked many times by police. She has been fined several times, totalling over 25,000 yuan. In the labour camp Ms. Zhu would at times talk senselessly to herself or shout at others. Guards taped her mouth shut and tied her down to the bed, causing her health to deteriorate even further.
  • Mr. Wang Guiming from Tonghua, Jilin Province, Died As a Result of Abuse in Detention; Authorities Attempt to Cover Up Crime

    Thirty-eight-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Wang Guiming died as a result of abuse in the Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp on February 29th, 2008. He had been arrested while working on February 13th and many people saw the police beat him in the police van. He went on a hunger strike to protest the detention and was force-fed three times. When the family saw his body there were bruises all over it, evidence of abuse. Yet the police maintained that Mr. Wang had killed himself.
