Mr. Zhang Zhijun Tortured to Death in Xi'an City Prison, Shaanxi Province
2008-03-25Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Zhijun had been arrested and incarcerated because he practised Falun Gong. On February 23rd, 2008, his family received a call that Mr. Zhang had died, and they rushed to the Xi'an City Prison in Shaanxi Province. The prison administration refused to let the family see Mr. Zhang's body. Finally, under the family's persistent demands, they were allowed to see Zhang Zhijun's body. His face was so bloated that it was very difficult to look at. There were obvious purple and blue rope marks on his neck. His family demanded legal representation, but lawyers present said that the higher officials had already ordered legal counsel. No one dared to accept this case. The police cremated the body on February 24th, 2008. -
Practitioners from Beijing Tortured in the Inner Mongolia Women's Forced Labour Camp
2008-03-24Some practitioners were tortured so severely that their menstruation would not stop. Guard Wu Jing (female) incited the criminals to poke a bundle of rough chopsticks into the mouth of practitioner Ms. Yu Haiyan. Ms. Yu's face and mouth were badly bruised, covered with blood, and appeared to be purple. Her swollen lips curled upwards. The guards continued to lock her in the storage room, hang her up in the air by handcuffs, and order the drug-addicts to pummel her. She was put down and then hung up again, causing her to faint many times. This kind of torture would be carried out once every few days and has become a routine. -
Older Practitioner Mr. Xiao Feng and His Wife Unjustly Arrested
2008-03-24On January 21st, 2008 at around 6:00 a.m., seventy-year-old retired senior engineer Xiao Feng, a practitioner who lived in a village inside Shenzhen City, was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution in his area when two local police and public security agents caught him. They tried to force him to lead the way to other practitioners' homes in order to confiscate a large number of fliers. He refused, so they arrested Xiao Feng's wife, Qian Huarui (60 years old) in their home, and took both of them to the village police station. On the same night at around 8:00 p.m., the two were transferred to a detention centre and have been locked up there since. -
Several Practitioners Arrested Recently in Baoding, Hebei Province
2008-03-24Ms. Liu Lifang, female, 44 years old, works at the China Bank near Chaoyang Road. On the evening of March 11th, 2008, she went home after work. Four or five policemen from the National Security Team searched her home and took her away. The police confiscated her Falun Gong books and other personal property. Presumably she is detained by the National Security Team, although there is no real way of finding out. Her thirteen year-old daughter was left alone at home with no one to take care of her. -
Mr. Zhai Mouchen from Zibo City, Shandong Province, Is Being Subjected to Relentless, Long-Term Persecution
2008-03-24On January 28th, 2008, Mr. Zhai Mouchen, a Falun Gong practitioner, was taken into custody from his workplace by officers of the State Security Division. Afterwards, his home was searched without a warrant. Later, he was taken to the Zibo City Detention Centre and brutally tortured. Mr. Zhai was sentenced to one year of forced labour and taken to the notorious Shandong Province Forced Labour Camp. In 2000, Mr. Zhai was sentenced to three years of forced labour. In Zibo Forced Labour Camp, his legs developed a deep ulceration due to electric shock injuries that didn't heal for a long time. -
Five Older Falun Gong Practitioners from Sichuan, Inner Mongolia, Hunan, Heilongjiang and Henan Provinces Died Due to Persecution
2008-03-23Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Cheng Fagui, who was around 53 years old, was arrested on December 11th, 2006 and sent to a forced labour camp for one year. She endured innumerable sufferings from the brutal torture. She was also force-fed with unknown drugs. Ms. Cheng was finally released on November 12th, 2007, but she died soon after in 2008. Ms. Wang Yulan was around 58 years of age. After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20th, 1999, Ms. Wang was harassed, threatened, arrested, confined and forced to attend a brainwashing session. She was brutally persecuted and placed under surveillance by the local authorities. Wang Yulan was devastated by the brutal torture and persecution. Because of the pressure, she developed headaches, vomiting, dizziness and heart problems. She left the world on January 10th, 2008. -
Practitioner Ms. Zhou Huimin Tortured To Brink of Death
2008-03-23Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhou Huimin was arrested on the evening of September 26th, 2007. On February 1st, 2008, police took her to the Nanmusi Women's Forced Labour Camp in Sichuan Province. Ms. Zhou Huimin has been on hunger strike to protest her arrest and the persecution of Falun Gong. She was taken to Qingyang District Hospital in Chengdu City on February 5th, and she is reportedly now in a coma. She cannot speak and her life is in danger. Local Party authorities have told her family to prepare for her death. -
Practitioners Mr. Wang Denqiao and Ms. Qing Yufen from Xinren County, Guizhou Province Held in Detention
2008-03-23Practitioner Ms. Qing Yufen was arrested by the National Security Team on December 26th, 2007, and has been held in the county jail ever since. Her family was asked to sign the arrest notice, but it was learned that the persecutors had insufficient evidence when the District Lawyer's Office approved the arrest warrant. Ms. Qing was secretly moved to a brainwashing centre in Guiyang City, which is a base where practitioners are persecuted. The authorities have not let Ms. Qing's family members visit her since her arrest. According to informed sources, Ms. Qing suffered very serious persecution because she would not cooperate with the unreasonable demands of the authorities. -
Daqing Police Arrest Several Practitioners
2008-03-23Before and after the Chinese New Year in 2008, police from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province worked with local thugs to harass and persecute Falun Gong practitioners. On March 4th, police from the Daqing City Police Department arrested several practitioners. At about 9:00 p.m. on March 4th, Daqing police took Ms. Jiang into custody when she was taking care of her grandson at home. Her home was also searched. Leaflets exposing the persecution, CDs and Falun Gong books were packed into four or five big plastic bags and taken away. A copier and about 10,000 yuan in cash were also taken away. -
Crimes Committed In the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp
2008-03-22When practitioners refused to wear the camp uniforms, they were beaten, cursed at, kicked, and hung up by handcuffs during the day. Their hands were handcuffed to the headboards at night, which meant that they couldn't turn over or move freely. After only a month in Masanjia they became very weak from being tortured. From April through May, practitioner Ms. Yuan Shuzhe was hung up for the entire two months, which caused compression of her lower spine. This can lead to paralysis. -
The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Shijiazhuang Women's Prison, Hebei Province
2008-03-22Shijiazhuang Women's Prison in Hebei Province detains about 80 to 90 Falun Gong practitioners. The oldest is 70 years old. The longest term is 14 years. Falun Gong practitioners Miss Wang Bo and her mother, Liu Shuqin, are detained and persecuted in the Shijiazhuang Women's Prison after they were sentenced. The long-term excessive work causes more than half the detainees to develop diseases such as tuberculosis. The Falun Gong practitioners are forced to work overtime. Every night they cannot go to sleep until 11 PM or 12 AM. Every job has a quota. If they cannot finish the quota, if they talk when lining-up, or if the work quality is not good enough, they are punished. -
Older Practitioner Ms. Lv Huiwen Beaten in Qianjin Women's Forced Labour Camp in Harbin City
2008-03-22Ms. Lv Huiwen, 57 years old, was transferred from Wanjia Forced Labour Camp to Qianjin Women's Forced Labour Camp, in May 2007, where she was forced to do hard labour from 7:30 a.m. until 8 p.m., seven days a week for a long time.. She was beaten, hung up while handcuffed, and personally insulted by the camp guards. As a result, she suffered heart disease, blurry vision, and became very weak. Just before her daughter came to visit her, Division Head Chen Lihua had threatened Lv Huiwen, saying, "Tomorrow, if you tell your daughter what happened here, we will use all the regulations at hand to punish you later." In order to avoid any further persecution, Lv Huiwen chose not to say anything to her daughter. -
Zhongshan District Secretly Tries Ms. Ding Zhenfang in a Closed Court
2008-03-22On August 16th, 2007, Ms. Ding Zhengfang from Dalian City, Liaoning Province was taken into custody at her mother's home by police officers. Ms. Ding has since been detained at the Yaojia Detention Centre. About two weeks ago, the Zhongshan District Court secretly tried her in a closed court. During her detention, she was put into handcuffs and shackles, which were nailed to a bed. To protest the persecution, she held a hunger strike. Consequently, she was brutally beaten and force-fed by the guards. Because of the beatings, her health severely deteriorated. -
Falun Gong Practitioners Designated as "Enemies" and "First Targets" for Persecution in Advance of Olympics
2008-03-21Harbin City Police Department officials in Heilongjiang Province held a meeting in mid-March in which they conveyed instructions from upper-level regime entities. Police department officials have emphasized the listing of practitioners as "enemies" prior to the Olympic Games and declared them as the "first targets" for persecution. Officials from the police department headquarters have organized neighbourhood committees and local police stations to establish plain clothes teams to search for and arrest the so-called main targets. Real crimes such as drug-peddling and prostitution are being ignored in order to persecute Falun Gong. The authorities have also lied and stated that foreign countries have provided funding for Falun Gong practitioners. -
Daqing City Police Department Officials Plot to Arrest One Hundred Falun Gong Practitioners To Fulfil Pre-Olympics Quota
2008-03-21According to a reliable source, Heilongjiang Province Public Security Bureau officials have assigned local regions' administrative offices quotas regarding the number of Falun Gong practitioners each region must arrest. The local regions are required to fulfil their quotas before the Olympic Games. Targeted individuals include those whose names have been mentioned on the Internet before or who are "currently active." Daqing City was initially assigned a quota of 200 hundred Falun Gong practitioners to arrest. Daqing City leaders argued, "This is too many. Many good people will have to be arrested to reach the quota."
