United States: Falun Gong Practitioners from Southern California Win First Prize in Walnut City Parade

On October 9th, 2004, Falun Gong practitioners from San Diego and Los Angeles took part in "Walnut on Parade" as part of the Walnut Family Festival. The City of Walnut is located in the Los Angeles area. The parade judging committee praised the Falun Gong practitioners' procession, which won the first prize in the float category. -

Martin Bermudez is the host of a radio program in the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires. During his last trip to New York, he saw anti-torture exhibitions performed by Falun Dafa practitioners in Manhattan. He was shocked so deeply that he asked himself, "What can I do?" When he returned to Argentina, he immediately contacted Falun Dafa practitioners for more information on the practise and the situation in China. On October 1st, 2004 "The Island" broadcast the first special report about the persecution of Falun Dafa in China. -

United States: A Practitioner's Enquiry about the Persecution of Falun Gong at the New York "World Leadership Forum" Draws Audience Support
2004-10-10United Nations representatives assembled in New York City for meetings in late September. The "2004 World Leadership Forum" conducted by the "Foreign Policy Association" launched a three-day conference, attended by several hundred strategy experts. Also in attendance were foreign ministers and diplomats from several countries. Falun Gong practitioners participated with enquiries and received support and applause from the audience. -

"Uncompromising Courage," a fine art exhibition, was held in Seoul from October 4th to October 7th, 2004. Congressman Shin Hak-Yong, Director of the Cultural Academy, and others attended the opening ceremony. After closing in Seoul, the exhibition will tour to Daejon, Gwangju and Busan. -
Australia: Sydney Practitioners Hold a Press Conference Calling for the Immediate Release of Tianjin Practitioner Li Liang

Ever since the brother of Sydney practitioner Li Ying was illegally abducted in Tianjin on October 2nd 2004, Australian practitioners have launched an urgent rescue campaign. On October 5th, Sydney practitioners held a press conference in front of the Chinese Consulate to call for Mr Li's immediate release. -
United States: Report by the U.S. Congressional-Executive Commission on China Cites Intensified Repression of Freedom of Belief
2004-10-09On October 5th, 2004, members of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC) presented its Annual Report for 2004. The CECC was created with the legislative mandate to monitor human rights and the development of the rule of law in China, and to submit an annual report to the US President and the Congress. This years report states, "The freedom to believe and to practise one's religious faith is a universal and essential right. The Chinese leadership must open itself to dialogue on establishing true freedom of religion for all its citizens." -

The Falun Dafa Association of India registered as a non-profit organisation in Bombay in September 2004, and became a legal group recognised by the Indian Government. The founding of the Association formally announces to the world that this ancient nation has formally embraced Falun Dafa. -

On October 1st, 2004, the Thailand Healthcare Expo 2004 was held near Bangkok. Thailand's Falun Gong practitioners made good use of this opportunity to introduce Falun Dafa and expose the persecution taking place in China. During a busy two days, a great deal of people had an opportunity to learn about the principle of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." -

Australia: Chinese Consulate in Sydney Forces Chinese Citizen to Seek Asylum from Australian Government
2004-10-07I went to the Chinese Consulate in Sydney to apply for a passport renewal, but the consulate officials turned down my application. The reason given was that I practise Falun Gong. The Deputy Consul Chen told me: "Practising Falun Gong and conducting appeals to the Chinese Consulate are actions against the Party and the government. Don't dream about going back to China--go apply for asylum." I gave my best to China for 33 years, and now I can't go back to my homeland and have been forced to seek asylum! Where is the justice! -
U.S. House of Representatives Unanimously Passes Resolution Urging Chinese Government to Cease Its Oppression of Falun Gong Practitioners in the United States and in China
2004-10-06The resolution expressed the sense that the Government of the People's Republic of China should immediately stop interfering in the exercise of religious and political freedoms within the United States, such as the right to practise Falun Gong, that are guaranteed by the United States Constitution, cease using the diplomatic missions in the United States to spread falsehoods about the nature of Falun Gong, and release from detention all prisoners of conscience, including practitioners of Falun Gong.
