  • Model Worker at Yuanjiang Paper Mill Faces Sentence in Hunan Province

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Ruan Fanghua was a model worker (workshop officer) at the Yuanjiang Paper Mill in Hunan Province. He was arrested by Changsha City police on August 3rd, 2010 and has been detained since then. During the persecution of Falun Gong by the communist regime, Mr. Ruan has been persecuted numerous times. After this most recent arrest, he was sent to a brainwashing centre. Agents from the Public Prosecution Office of the Yuelu District Prosecutorial Bureau in Changsha City have charged Mr. Ruan in the Yuelu District Court. So Mr. Ruan is now also facing sentencing.
  • A Family of Three in Fujin City, Heilongjiang Province Is Taken Away

    Five undercover police officers drove to the house of Mr. Yuan Yulong on December 21st. As soon as they walked into the house, they started interrogating him: “Is Falun Gong good or bad? Do you still want to practise it or not? Where are your son and daughter-in-law?” They placed Mr. Yuan's Falun Gong books on the table and started recording them with a video camera. Another five officers came to ransack Mr. Yuan's house. The officers confiscated his notebook computer, an inkjet printer, three MP3 players, two mobile phones, some Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution and Falun Gong books. They then arrested him and he is currently being held at the Fujin Detention Centre.
  • Mr. Liu Guangzhi Wrongfully Imprisoned, Family Not Allowed to Visit

    In July 2007, when Mr. Liu Guangzhi took pictures for another Falun Gong practitioner in court, national security personnel from the Longtan District in Jilin City arrested and tortured him. Longtan Court, under orders from the Jilin City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), sentenced Mr. Liu to six years in Gongzhuling Prison. Mr. Liu has been imprisoned since then. Both the prison and the 610 Office are trying to conceal information about Mr. Liu, and the prison refuses to let anyone visit him. No one has seen Mr Liu since he was arrested in July 2007.
  • Ms. Liu Meili from Wuhan City Arrested and Robbed by the Police

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Meili from Wuhan City, Hubei Province was arrested on November 4th, 2010. The police stole her retirement salary of 3000 yuan. They handcuffed Ms. Liu to a chair. When her family came to ask for her release, the officers lied and promised that they would detain her for only 15 days. After her family left, they shoved Ms. Liu into a police car and transferred her to the Wuhan City First Detention Centre.
  • Two Elderly Women Practitioners from Zhongyuan Oil Field Arrested

    Two elderly practitioners, Ms. Jin Runhua and Ms. Han Yongshu, left home together on December 22nd. By dinner time that day they still had not returned to their homes. Their families were so worried about them that they made many phone calls to try to find them. Not until around 9:00 p.m. that night when Zhongyuan Oil Field Security Section officers came to Ms. Jin's home to ransack it did Ms. Jin's family learn that their loved one had been arrested and detained. Those participating in the home ransacking included officers from the Liutun Police Station and from the Puyang County Police Department.
  • Ms. Zhou Xiaoyan from the Hexi District, Tianjin City, Detained Multiple Times

    Ms. Zhou Xiaoyan was arrested by local police on December 29th, 2009, and she has been detained at the Hexi District Detention Centre and Hedong District Detention Centre for more than a year. In October 2010, Ms. Zhou was sentenced to three years of imprisonment by Hedong Court. She appealed the sentence. In November, Tianjin No. 2 Intermediate Court held a second trial. Both trials were held secretly, without informing Ms. Zhou's family members. Previously, Ms. Zhou was arrested and detained in 2008.
  • Ms. Song Guifen from Huadian City Is Arrested Again

    Ms. Song Guifen started practising Falun Gong in 1996. She has been frequently arrested since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began persecuting Falun Gong in 1999. She went to Beijing to appeal in July 1999. She was arrested and held at the Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp in Changchun City, for one year. In 2001, police arrested her again. Police handcuffed her to a wall, punched and kicked her, and smashed her head against the wall. She was also shocked with electric batons, and a plastic bag was put over her head to suffocate her. Ms. Song was later taken to the Huadian Detention Centre, and was then sentenced to two years in Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp. Her eyesight deteriorated significantly and her vision became blurred.
  • Falun Gong Practitioner Yang Guifang and Daughter from Gucheng County, Hebei Province Both Sentenced to Labour Camp

    Falun Gong practitioner Yang Guifang and her family live in Beijing. They make their living as labourers. From January 23rd-25th, 2008, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel in Beijing suddenly arrested over 40 practitioners. Yang Guifang and her oldest daughter Liu Yan were arrested by police from Beijing's Dongcheng District Public Security Bureau. They were held for two months in Beijing and were sentenced to a labour camp. Yang was sentenced to two and a half years, and her daughter was sentenced to two years. They were then transferred to the Hohhot Women's Labour Camp in Inner Mongolia.
  • Shandong Zhaoyuan 610 Office Refuses to Allow Falun Gong Practitioners to Hire Lawyers

    Zhaoyuan City Court recently tried seven Falun Gong practitioners. The practitioners' families hired lawyers from Beijing to defend them, but Zhaoyuan police, court officials, Procuratorate agents and those from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) worked together to harass, intimidate, and prevent the lawyers from defending the practitioners. When one lawyer first arrived in Zhaoyuan, 610 Office personnel went to the practitioners’ village and told the village head that the lawyer was a reporter, "digging for village gossip." The 610 Office agents told the village official to send two men to the village entrance and beat up the lawyer when he showed up.
  • Jinan Practitioner Mr. Wu Yuliang Arrested Last Year, His Whereabouts Unknown

    Mr. Wu Yuliang is a Falun Gong practitioner in Yanshan Community in the Lixia District in Jinan City, Shandong Province. When he was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong near the Yanshan Community on July 4th, 2009, police arrested him and took him to the Liuchangshan Brainwashing Centre. Since then his whereabouts have been unknown. Many people said he was one of the few good people in the neighbourhood and it was totally wrong for an innocent man to be sent to a forced labour camp.
  • Several Falun Gong Practitioners in Xinjiang Repeatedly Arrested and Sentenced

    Ms. Chen Meng and Ms. Fan Baoming were arrested by police in August 2009 for printing Falun Gong materials. Both practitioners have been persecuted in forced labour camps before. In November 2010, they were sentenced to eight years in prison without being given a trial. Another practitioner, Ms. Dong Xiuyun, was also sentenced to seven years in prison at the same time. They are imprisoned at the Second Women's Prison in Xinjiang. The Women's Prison in Xinjiang has a notoriously long history of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Zhao Shuyuan, a practitioner from Urumqi City in Xinjiang has been imprisoned there since July 2004. Though she was tortured, she refused to give up her belief and practice of Falun Gong.
  • Nearly 20 Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested in Tangshan

    On November 24th, 12 or more Falun Gong practitioners were arrested in and around Tangshan. From November 17th to November 24th, nearly 20 Falun Gong practitioners were arrested in the same area. on November 17th, Ms. Zhang Haiyan's house was ransacked by the Yutian County Domestic Security Division. They took a computer and personal items and arrested her, her husband, Mr. Huang Kejun, and their child, who is not a practitioner. They released the child, alone, in the middle of the night. Mr. Huang and Ms. Zhang were transferred to the Yutian Detention Centre on November 19th. Han Xiuying was arrested for going to Falun Gong websites and the house ransacked by the Fengrun District Police Department. While Mr. Li Shaohui from Xinqu was talking to people about Falun Gong, he was arrested by police.
  • Jiangsu Province Falun Gong Practitioner Xu Ming Imprisoned for the Second Time

    On May 26th, 2010, Falun Gong practitioner Xu Ming was arrested by the Changzhou City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) while on his way to work. He was taken to prison, where he endured several brainwashing sessions conducted by the officers there. He was later sent to Xilin Detention Centre in Changzhou, where he has been held ever since. Xu Ming's captors attempted to force a confession by torturing him. His family hired a local lawyer to defend him. The 610 Office found out about this, and started harassing the lawyer. They flatly told the lawyer that he was not allowed to defend Falun Gong practitioners.
  • Domestic Security Brigade Officer in Hebei Province Forges Evidence to Frame Ms. Liu Shunxian

    On August 16th, 2010, police officers broke into Ms. Liu Shunxian's house in Wazi Village. They arrested Ms. Liu and confiscated her computer, printer, MP3 player and Falun Gong books. Ms. Liu was held at the Quyang County Detention Centre. The next day, the officers took Ms. Liu to the Hebei Province Women's Forced Labour Camp. The labour camp refused to take her because of her physical condition. In October 2009, the Procuratorate returned the case to the police because of insufficient evidence. The head of the Lingshan Town Police Station followed orders from his superiors and had a false witness testify against Ms. Liu. Chen Jianwen, head of the Domestic Security Brigade, then forged evidence and took the case to the Procuratorate again.
  • Additional Information on the Arrest of Ms. Geng Caixia from Luan County, Hebei Province

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Geng Caixia was reported to the police when she went to the Xiaomazhuang area to tell people the facts about Falun Gong on July 7th, 2010. Police arrested her and took her to the police station for interrogation. Police demanded information about her son and her mother. Ms. Geng didn’t tell them anything. Then one officer slapped her face three times and grabbed her hair, trying to lift her. Two other officers also got involved. One used his legs to immobilise Ms. Geng’s head while the other one used rope and wrapped it around her head, binding it so tightly that she had difficulty breathing.
