• Ms. Yang Jinying, in Her Fifties, from Baoding City Dies as a Result of Persecution

  Ms. Yang Jinying, a Falun Gong practitioner from Baoding City, Hebei Province, was arrested and persecuted many times for practising Falun Gong. On August 7th, 2005, she was arrested by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police for tapping into a local television network to broadcast the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was brutally tortured physically and mentally. Later she escaped from the hospital after breaking out of handcuffs, and became destitute and homeless. Her health did not recover and she died on June 21st, 2008.

• Older Mr. Zhang Lizhu Dies as a Result of Persecution in Henan Province

  Mr. Zhang Lizhu, 67, lived in a village in Henan Province. In March 2007, police arrested him and detained him in a detention centre. He was transferred to the Xinmi Prison at the end of 2007 and tortured until his life was in danger. On March 2nd, 2008, his family picked him up, but the Xinmi Prison Administration took him back into custody again after a month. He was later taken home due to his critical condition. He died on July 11th, 2008.

• Ms. Chi Chunxia Disabled as a Result of the Persecution, Her Husband Sentenced to Forced Labour Once Again

  Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Chi Chunxia was arrested in January 2002. While being detained in the Political and Security Section of the city police department, she fell from a building and became disabled. Half of her body was numb, and six of her toes had to be amputated. Domestic Security Division officers arrested her husband on July 28th, 2007, for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. He was imprisoned in Suihua City Forced Labour Camp where he had to work more than 10 hours a day.

• Ms. Gao Qiying and Her Younger Brother Mr. Gao Guoyuan from Zunyi City, Guizhou Province Imprisoned and Tortured

  Falun Gong practitioners, Ms. Gao Qiying, who is disabled, and her younger brother Mr. Gao Guoyuan are currently imprisoned separately at the Nanbai Detention Centre in Zunyi City and the Sanshui Forced Labour Camp in Guangdong Province respectively. Mr. Gao Guoyuan had a mental breakdown from the persecution he suffered at the Zhongba Forced Labour Camp. He was tortured by the guards to the point that he was covered with cuts and bruises and his brain was injured, his reactions became slow and he acted like a different person. Because of the imprisonment of Ms. Gao Qiying and Mr. Gao Guoyuan, their two families have lost all sources of income.

• Mr. Zhong Zhenfu Dies from Cruel Beating in Detention

  On May 4th, 2008, Pingdu City 610 Office stormed into houses that were being rented by Falun Gong practitioners as sites producing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution. They arrested Mr. Zhong Zhenfu. The police forced interrogated him. When he refused to reveal any information the officers poured boiling water over his neck and body. At Pingdu City Detention Centre guards put shackles on Mr. Zhong Zhenfu and whipped him about the head with metal wires. His life was in danger after this abuse. He was then detained in a metal cage, and the guards ordered the criminal inmates to torture him and beat him. The guards sent Zhong Zhenfu to the hospital. The doctor told them that Mr. Zhong's injuries were very serious. He died on July 20th, 2008.

• Middle School Teacher Han Qingkun, in His Fifties, Dies from Torture in Forced Labour Camp

  Mr. Han Qingkun was a teacher in Shandong Province. In 2006, he was doing the Falun Gong exercises in a motel when he was arrested by police and later sentenced to two years of forced labour, which he served in the Xuchang City Forced Labour Camp in Henan Province. During his first two months of detention, he was inhumanly tortured, causing him to develop cirrhosis of the liver. The camp administration didn't notify his family, nor did they allow him to be bailed out on medical parole. They released him when he was dying, on February 17th, 2007. His family could hardly recognize him. His hair and moustache were grey, his abdomen was bloated, and his buttocks flesh had an infected wound. His clothes were all in pieces. He had a high fever and remained unconscious. He died at home, one month after his release, on March 30th, 2007, at the age of fifty-two.

• 64-Year-Old Mr. Liu Tingheng Dies After Being Tortured in Benxi City "Legal Centre" in Liaoning Province

  Mr. Liu Tingheng, 64, was arrested and detained four times. In September 2001, he was detained in the Weining Forced Labour Camp of Benxi City. Guards locked him in a small cell, cuffed his hands behind his back, which cut into his flesh and caused his wrists and hands to swell the next day. He was bitten by mosquitoes all over his body and suffered incontinence. He was then tortured with the sitting board 13 hours per day, during which he was not allowed to talk or move. In April 2007, Mr. Liu was arrested for the last time and detained in Benxi City Forced Labour Camp. He was tortured until he was bedridden for a month, his chest became full of liquid, and the camp administration allowed his family to pick him up. Only twenty days after returning home, he died, on the early morning of June 9th, 2008.

• Police in Laishui County, Hebei Province Once Again Conduct Large Scale Arrests of Falun Gong Practitioners

  Recently, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) of Laishui County, Hebei Province held a meeting about persecuting Falun Gong. The officials involved in the meeting included those from the local 610 Office, police department, Procuratorate, court, and all responsible persons from towns, villages, bureaus and sections. The meeting's focus was the persecution of all practitioners in the Laishui County area in the name of the "protecting the Olympic Games." They continued arresting many Falun Gong practitioners all over the County. They also set a quota for the practitioners to be arrested, which would be no less than 300 practitioners. Moreover, a quota was set for each of the towns, villages and communities. Every village was required to hire 30 people without fixed duties, who engaged in patrols, with red arm bands.

• The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Harassed People During the Olympic Torch Relay

  The Olympic Torch arrived in Jilin City on June 15th. The 610 Office, the Political and Legal Committee, and the police department were responsible for the arrests of many practitioners. Brainwashing sessions were held in an old building near the 205 Factory of the Jilin Chemical Company. Every practitioner was put in solitary confinement. Those in charge tried to brainwash every one of them every day. Ms. Che Didi, a young teacher, was arrested and detained in the brainwashing centre. Her daughter was only six years old. Practitioners in all areas were harassed.

  "I follow Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and that's not wrong." This was what Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Lu Xingying said to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police when she was arrested. But four people surrounded her and carried her into the car. Town official Hu Shoudong forced Ms. Lu to sit on the ice-cold floor for more than an hour. Others beat and cursed at her and tried to threaten her to stop practising Falun Gong. Ms. Lu would not cooperate and several people took turns beating her and kicking her. Shi Zenghua took Ms. Lu somewhere with no light and hit her with a stick more than a dozen times. They also forced her to sit on the ground with her legs straight and arms sticking out parallel to the legs. While she was in that posture, they kicked her arms and legs, and one other person stepped on her toes.

• Zunhua Police in Hebei Province Search Practitioners' Homes

  At noon on July 6th, 2008, police searched the home of Zhao Jingjun, a Falun Gong pracitioner in Qihu Village. That night, the police also searched the home of Mr. Liu Changyou and his wife, Ms. Wen Cuiying. On July 7th, the police searched the home of Wen Ruihua, who lives in Wenzhuang Village. Later, the police followed a list of dozens of people, which was provided by a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) official in Zunhua City, and started a large-scale home-search sweep in Wenzhuang Village. If Falun Gong materials were found in a house, they arrested the owner, which made everyone feel insecure. On July 10th, ten people searched the home of 76-year-old Ms. Li Chunhua, who comes from Wenzhuang Village. They confiscated a lot of personal property and detained this older person in the Zunhua Detention Centre.

• Officials in Weifang City, Shandong Province, Arrest Over 40 Falun Gong Practitioners in Preparation for the Olympics

  On July 9th, 2008, officials in Weifang City, with Zhang Xinqi in charge, began a new round of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners under the pretext of "security" for the Olympics. Beginning at 6 a.m., officers from the 610 Office, public safety bureaus, and security bureaus arrested dozens of practitioners and confiscated their personal belongings. During the past nine years, over 93 practitioners in Weifang City died because of the persecution. Nearly 1,000 practitioners were taken to forced labour camps, and almost 100 received different kinds of sentences. This time, officials arrested over 40 practitioners within just a few hours.

• Mr. Wang Maosheng Arrested and Beaten to Near Death by the Police

  On the evening of July 8th, 2008, while waiting for some other people, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Maosheng was arrested by four officers from Mohudian Police Station. At Mohudian Police Station, four or five officers beat him so brutally that he suffered a concussion. He felt dizzy, and his head ached. His chest was seriously injured and he coughed up blood. The injuries they inflicted on his abdomen resulted in a hernia. He was in critical condition. The police took Mr. Wang to emergency at Ling'gang Hospital. Because an emergency operation requires a signature and about 40,000 yuan, the officers just left Mr. Wang there and fled.

• The Persecution of Older Practitioner Ms. Jiang Youchun, a Falun Gong Practitioner from Hubei Province

  Ms. Jiang Youchun, is a 58 year old practitioner. She is being persecuted because she would not renounce her belief in Falun Gong and would not stop distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong and that Falun Gong teaches people to follow the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance. She was once detained in a detention centre in Dongguan city for 14 months and was forced to do slave labour.

• Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Authorities in Guang'an Region, Sichuan Province, Arrest Several Practitioners in Recent Months

  Recently, in several counties in the Guang'an region including Guang'an, Huaying, Linshui, and Yuechi, more than ten Falun Gong practitioners were arrested. Guang'an City authorities planned to set up a brainwashing centre to persecute them. On the morning of June 10th, 2008, practitioner Deng Qixing was arrested. A few days later he was sentenced to forced labour. On May 5th, 2008, Guang'an authorities arrested Luo Keyu, who is over 80 years old, and several other practitioners.
