  • Jiangxi Province Women's Prison Officials Test Practitioners' Blood Against Their Will

    During May and June 2008, guards from the Jiangxi Province Women's Prison tortured practitioners who refused to give up Falun Gong. The guards forced practitioners, including the ones who were "transformed," to undergo blood tests against their will. Practitioners' hands were handcuffed behind their backs and then hung by the cuffs onto the window's metal frame, so that the victim's feet dangled. The cuffs cut into their flesh, causing tremendous pain. Another form of torture was shocking the practitioners with high voltage electric batons, causing burns and swelling. In the extreme summer heat, some practitioners were locked up in a small windowless cell that was infested with mosquitoes and other insects. There is no heat in the winter, so the cells were extremely cold.
  • Ms. Ju Mingxia Arrested in Songyuan City, Jilin Province

    Police in Jilin Province arrested many practitioners and sent some to labour camps in April 2008, under the pretext of "maintaining security before the Olympics." The arrests took place without any warrant or incriminating evidence. They arrested Ms. Ju Mingxia on April 13th, 2008.
  • Officials Force Practitioner Ms. Yin Guiqiu's Husband to Divorce Her

    Ms. Yin Guiqiu went to Beijing to explain the facts about Falun Gong to officials in late December 2000. Train police arrested her and held her at the county detention centre for more than three months. The police arrested her again on March 6th, 2002, as she was posting Falun Gong flyers in Xiangyin County. They took her to the county detention centre, where the guards brutally tortured her. She was sentenced to six months of forced labour on June 9th, 2002. Her husband divorced her due to pressure from the local officials.
  • Mr. Hu Heping from Hunan Province Dies as a Result of Torture

    On March 18th, 2008, police arrested Mr. Hu Heping and took him to the Yueyang City First Detention Centre. Due to the torture that Mr. Hu endured while in police custody, his internal organs were injured, there was blood in his urine, and his legs and feet were swollen. He could not stop coughing. His weight dropped from 120 pounds to just 90 pounds. On June 16th, guards took him to the hospital and they found his internal organs were severely damaged. He never recovered from his injuries and died on the early morning of August 7th.
  • Mr. Sun Yuzhang,76, Dies from Police Harassment; More Than Twenty Practitioners Arrested in Hebei Province

    Mr. Sun Yuzhang, 76, went to Beijing twice July 20th, 1999 to explain the facts about Falun Gong with his personal experience. Police detained him for eight months in the Shenzhou City Detention Centre. In July 2008, for the sake of "Olympics security," police started another round of arresting, harassing, home-ransacking, and surveillance on all Falun Gong practitioners. They arrested 20 to 30 practitioners. On July 18th, police tried to arrest Mr. Sun's youngest daughter (a practitioner), but they did not succeed. Mr. Sun was deeply disturbed and worried about his daughter. He felt very upset on the evening of July 21st, and died on July 22nd, 2008.
  • Ms. Wu Minhua Dies As a Result of Persecution

    Ms. Wu Minhua, 67, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in December 1999, and was detained for 15 days upon returning home. She was then listed on the police department's "blacklist." In May 2004, Ms. Wu was forcibly taken to a brainwashing session held. She was locked in a 60 square-foot dark room for two months and tortured both mentally and physically. Police closely monitored her, and constantly harassed her. The huge pressure injured her mind and body, and she died on July 22nd, 2008.
  • Supported by Four Beijing Lawyers, Mr. Huang Wei and His Wife Hao Qiuyan from Shijiazhuang City Released, But Detained Again due to Pre-Olympic Mass Arrests

    Practitioners Mr. Huang Wei left his home at 7:00 a.m. on July 4th, 2008 to go to work. A plain-clothes policeman stationed outside the residential building arrested him. Seven officers arrested his wife Hao Qiuyan and ransacked the home. The couple was detained for 15 days at the Shijiazhuang City Detention Centre. There were forbidden to contact their family members, meet with a lawyer and get a change of clothes. They were secretly sentenced to forced labour. Mr. Huang Wei and Ms. Hao Qiuyan went on a hunger strike on July 11th, 2008. With the efforts of fellow practitioners, they hired Beijing lawyers. The lawyers went to Shijiazhuang City three times to meet with the couple, but got nowhere. Detention centre officials and police agents prevented the lawyers from meeting with the practitioners.
  • Mr. Zhang Yanrong from Gansu Province Died after Eight Years of Repeated Torture

    Mr. Zhang Yanrong was from Gansu Province. He learned Falun Gong in 1997. After he started to practise Falun Gong, his health improved and he became known as a good person by everyone who knew him. After July 20th, 1999 when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Gong, he appealed for justice for Falun Gong. The Yongchang County Police Department arrested and tortured him many times. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison and transferred to the Lanzhou Prison, then Wuwei Third Prison and Jiuquan Prison. He was brutally tortured in prison which greatly endangered his life. He finally passed away on August 15th, 2007 at the age of 48.
  • Falun Gong Practitioners From Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province Arrested In Early July

    On July 2nd, 2008, officials from the 610 Office of Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province and the local police department ordered the police of all districts to conduct another round of arrests of Falun Gong practitioners. Fourteen practitioners were arrested. Wang Suqing and Shao Haibo were arrested at home around six o'clock in the morning. Sun Jihong, Man Guirong and Tang Xiurong were arrested near a supermarket around nine o'clock in the morning. Witnesses saw the police beat these three weak ladies heavily, kick them severely and slap them violently on the ears. It was also said that Huang Cheng, a Falun Gong practitioner was tortured during interrogation after he was arrested on Feb. 25th. The police from the Taihe District tied him to an "iron chair" and beat and shocked him with electric batons for 17 hours.
  • Eleven Falun Gong Practitioners from Tanghai County, Hebei Province Recently Arrested

    As the Beijing Olympic Games drew closer, the Chinese police in Tanghai County, Hebei Province, with Zhang Shun, the deputy chief of the county's Public Security Bureau (PSB), in charge, and Li Fuguo, captain of the county's State Security Team, intensified the persecution of local Falun Gong practitioners. Between June 10th and July 31st, 2008, eleven practitioners from Tanghai County were arrested.
  • Mr. Zhao Jianshe from Shandong Province Has Suffered Numerous Tortures for Five Years in the Jiangsu Prison

    In June of 2003, Mr. Zhao Jianshe, a Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested by the Communist authorities when he was exposing the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong to people. He was sentenced to jail for nine years by the Court of Nanjing City, and was put in the Jiangsu Prison where he has suffered tortures for more than five years. According to reliable sources, Mr. Zhao was detained in a solitary confinement cell, and his weight dropped from 80 kilograms (175 lbs) to 50 kg (110 lbs).
  • Ms. Li Shuzhen Dies after Being Interrogated by Police in Jilin Province

    After the persecution started in 1999, Party officials ransacked 58-year-old Ms. Li Shuzhen's home, extorted money from her, sent her to a forced labour camp, and brutally beat her multiple times. On January 30th, 2007, was falsely taken to the police department. Police searched her in a toilet. Ms. Li resisted, but she was not clear exactly what they did to her. After that incident, Ms. Li suffered incontinence, and she was bed-ridden and could not take care of herself. She died on March 7th, 2008. The police went to harass her family four days after she died.
  • Suspicious Police Activity Leading up to and After the Death of Ms. Chen Yumei

    Forty-eight-year-old practitioner, Ms. Chen Yumei left home at around 7:30 p.m. on July 3rd, 2008. She was arrested and violently beaten until she was unconscious. This arrest took place near Ms. Chen's own neighbourhood by the police from Changan Police Station, Shenyang City. At about 9:20 p.m., several officers from the Changan Police Station arrived at Ms. Chen's home, claiming that she had fainted and she was in an ambulance right outside. They requested her family's confirmation. Ms. Chen Yumei passed away on July 4th in the No. 463 Air Force Hospital.

    Ms. Meng Gui, in her 50's, began to practise Falun Gong in 1997 and soon experienced improved health. After the Chinese Communist Party launched the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, she was sent to the Guangxi Region Women's Forced Labour Camp twice and was detained there a total of six years. Due to the abuse she endured there, she became extremely emaciated and nearly died. By the time of her release, her hair had turned white, her back was severely curved, and she had difficulty walking.
