• Ms. Xu Xiu of Zhouzhi County, Shaanxi Province Tortured in a Brainwashing Centre

  On May 8th, 2008, Ms. Xu Xiu was arrested at her home by police. Four days later, we heard that she was taken to a brainwashing centre inside the Shaanxi Province Workers Sanatorium and was tortured there. In the brainwashing centre, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members coerce practitioners to watch videos and read materials which slander Falun Gong, and coerce practitioners to write statements of "transformation." They torture steadfast practitioners using psychological means, by isolating them in small cells, depriving them of sleep by non-stop interrogation, exposing them to bright lights, and poisoning their food to make them lose concentration and become dizzy.

• Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Official Zheng Xianfang from Huaiyang, Henan Province Heavily Involved in Persecuting Falun Gong Practitioners

  Since late April 2008, more than ten Falun Gong practitioners in Huaiyang, Henan Province have been arrested and their belongings confiscated by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials. Many practitioners and their family members have been brutally beaten and tortured by the CCP police. The Huaiyang 610 Office director, Zheng Xianfang, directed and led police to arrest Falun Gong practitioners and confiscate their belongings, personally tortured Falun Gong practitioners, sent Falun Gong practitioners and their family members to forced labour camps, and sentenced and extorted money from Falun Gong practitioners and their family members.

• Mr. Cui Guangyong from Wangqing County, Jilin Province Dies as a Result of Persecution

  Mr. Cui Guangyong, 38, was an accountant. In 2003, police officers arrested Cui Guangyong. They tortured him for 10 days. The policemen could not find any evidence to persecute him, so they had to release him. In 2007 police arrested him again. During 14 days, in the cold and wet training centre, Cui Guangyong's physical health became worse and worse due to the physical and mental torture he was subjected to. He passed away on the night of May 29th, 2008.

• After Five Years of Imprisonment, Airline Pilot Shen Wenjie is Forced into Homelessness to Avoid Further Persecution

  Mr. Shen Wenjie and his wife-to-be Ms. Dong Cui began practising Falun Gong in 1996. In late 2001, they were both arrested and sentenced to five years in prison by the Shunyi District Court. On the eighth day after Ms. Dong was transferred to the Daxing District Women's Prison, she was brutally tortured to death. For five years, Mr. Shen was subjected to all kinds of mental and physical tortures. When he left the prison in December 2006, he looked for her, and we can only imagine how sad he was upon learning that his wife-to-be had been murdered by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

• The Bestial Behaviour of Policewomen at the Kuangshan Police Station in Jinan City

  Male police officers at the Kuangshan Police Station in the Huaiyin District, Jinan City, have followed Jiang Zemin's [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] orders since the beginning of the persecution of Falun Gong. They and others have savagely tortured Falun Gong practitioners. Station chief Zhang Jizhong has been involved in dozens of persecution incidents. Policewomen at this station often electrically shock male Falun Gong practitioners' genitalia. A policewoman slapped practitioner Zhang Shihang and shocked him with an electric baton. Mr. Zhang became incontinent from the shock. She continued to shock him on his private parts

• Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Agents in Zhuolu County, Hebei Province Arrest Practitioners in the Name of the Olympic Games

  In the name of securing stability for the upcoming Olympic Games, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents in Zhuolu County, Hebei Province have been monitoring and registering all Falun Gong practitioners in the area. Under the pretext of checking their resident ID cards, the county government and police station are going from house to house, interrogating and examining county residents. Their goal is to monitor Falun Gong practitioners, Tibetans, religious groups, and petitioners. Meanwhile, police officers of the Zhuolu County 610 Office have repeatedly harassed practitioners who are supposedly "key characters" and tried to force them to sign documents promising that they will give up their beliefs.

• Elderly Widow Arrested by Police from Honggang District in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, Despite Severe Injuries from a Fall

  On the morning of April 7th, 2008, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Yanxiang, 71, jumped from the window of her third floor apartment to avoid being arrested. Ms. Wang's neighbours found her and took her to Longnan Hospital in Daqing City. She suffered several broken ribs, a broken leg, and internal injuries that resulted in fluid in her pleural cavity. Her daughter Liu Shufen is unable to care for her because Ms. Liu was sentenced to eleven years in prison and is currently in Heilongjiang Provincial Women's Prison.

• Ms. Hui Zenghua and Her Family Brutally Persecuted for Over Eight Years by Government Agents in Mengyin County, Shandong Province

  On February 11th, 2000, Ms. Hui Zenghua, 54, and her three children went to Beijing. The family was arrested while they were doing the Falun Gong exercises on Tiananmen Square. Police beat them, kicked them, and dragged them into a vehicle. Ms. Hui's family was forced to wear derogatory signs, and paraded around town in a vehicle in handcuffs. Ms. Gong Shuhua, Ms. Hui's daughter, was taken to a brainwashing centre. Ms. Gong was forced to kneel on a cement path. The agents and thugs punched her, kicked her, and beat her hands with branches whenever she moved. To make her give up her belief, four or five persons beat her every night.

• Ms. Li Feng Tortured at Xifeng Detention Centre in Qingyang City, Gansu Province

  On April, 3rd, 2008, when Ms. Li Feng and Ms. Qi Huirong were arrested by police at home. Over ten people went into their home. Police officers also went to Ms. Li Feng's home town and forced her husband to sign paperwork. They claimed that Ms. Li was arrested when she was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. They have detained Ms. Li at the Xifeng District Detention Centre. Having been tortured for a long period, Ms. Li Feng is covered with scars all over her body. Police officers beat Ms. Li's mouth which became swollen. Her teeth hurt and fell out, and she could not eat. Police officers also lie about Ms. Li going on a hunger strike. They declared that, "It is not a big deal to beat Falun Gong practitioners to death. Our superiors will not punish us; instead, they encourage us with bonuses."

• The Persecution of Ms. Wang Lanting and Ms. Su Mingxia from Chengguan Town, Pingshan County, Hebei Province

  Because Ms. Wang Lanting, 65, put up posters exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in 2001, she was reported by people who didn't know the truth and detained in the county detention centre again. She was handcuffed and put into leg irons. She went on a hunger strike, and the restraints were removed. A month later, she was taken to a brainwashing centre, where she was handcuffed to a very large tree for three days and nights. Later, this elderly woman was tortured for more than four hours by young inmates in the detention centre.

• Judge in China Imprisoned Because He Started to Practise Falun Gong

  Judge Li Dejun was a chief judge of the Hongqi Court under the Ganjingzi District Court in Dalian City, Liaoning Province. After listening to several cases brought against Falun Gong practitioners, he himself became a steadfast Falun Gong practitioner. In June 2006, he was arrested by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel. In February 2008, he was sentenced to three years in prison. He is currently being held in the Dalian Railroad Detention Centre.

• Practitioners Arrested and Their Homes Ransacked in Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region

  Numerous practitioners have been arrested and their homes ransacked in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Practitioners Ms. Fan Xiaoli, Ms. Guo Shulan, and Ms. Yang Fenglan are currently detained at the Hexi Detention Centre. In April 2008, the Tongliao City Police Department, Ke District Police Department, Domestic Security Division, several police stations, and Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel from neighbourhood administrations made a coordinated effort to conduct a so-called "secret check-up" on local practitioners. They phoned or visited them, using the excuses of address verification, low income assistance registration, or providing job opportunities. On May 30th, they began wide-spread arrests.

• The Persecution of Ms. Li Qiuhong from Jiuzhai Village, Mengyin County, Shandong Province

  My name is Li Qiuhong. I am 37 years old. On the morning of April 7th, 2008, my husband, Xu Zhidong was arrested. I was also cruelly tortured by police officers from Mengyin and Yinan County. I was released after being detained for a month and had 3,000 yuan extorted from me. My husband is now being detained in a forced labour camp. Our life has been seriously disrupted since my husband has been held in a forced labour camp. My eight-year-old son misses his father, and since we believe in Falun Gong, my husband and I have been suffering from this persecution.

• Elderly Zhang Zongsu and Her Husband, Li Guocai, Arrested and Held for Thirteen Months in Tangshan City, Hebei Province

  Two elderly Falun Gong practitioners, Ms. Zhang Zongsu and her husband, Mr. Li Guocai, were arrested by plain-clothes police on April 26th, 2007. Six months later, on October 20th, 2007, Ms. Zhang was sentenced to seven years in prison and Mr. Li Guocai to four years in prison. Until recently, they were detained at the Tangshan City First Detention Centre. In the beginning of January 2008, practitioners held in the detention centre began a group protest. Ms. Zhang was beaten and cursed. She was made to wear 22-pound handcuffs and shackles. On January 8th, 2008, her hands trembling uncontrollably, Ms. Zhang fainted. Afterwards, she could not take care of her own personal hygiene, she could not feed herself, and she could not clean her own clothes for two weeks.

• Mr. Wang Guiming's Remains Cremated

  On April 28th, 2008, after the remains of practitioner Mr. Wang Guiming were cremated, the Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp dispatched prison guards to bring the ashes to Tonghua City, where Mr. Wang's family resides. Their aim was to take Mr. Wang's wife, Ms. Han Fengxia, into custody and hand her over to the local 610 Office. To avoid being arrested, Ms. Han did not attend her husband's ash spreading ceremony.
