• Ms. Xing Junhua, Ms. Gao Chunlian and Other Practitioners Arrested

  After their arrests on October 12th, 2007, practitioners Ms. Xing Junhua, Ms. Gao Chunlian, Mr. Dong Hanjie and other practitioners were detained in the Zhuozhou City Police Department Criminal Police Section. They were each forced to sit on an "iron chair" for five days and six nights. Later they were transferred to the Zhuozhou City Detention Centre. At the time of this published article, they will have been detained for thirty eight days. Ms. Gao was tortured so severely that she was unable to stand. Her hands and feet were cold all the time and she needed other people to assist her when she used the toilet. She was barely recognisable and was on the verge of death. Mr. Dong showed the symptoms of high blood pressure and renal failure, and his legs were swollen.

• Elderly Mr. Li Jiuzhi in Dehui City, Jilin Province Dies as a Result of Years of Police Harassment and Abuse

  Mr. Li Jiuzhi was a 77-year-old Falun Dafa practitioner. Since the beginning of the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999, five of the six members of his family had been arrested. His third granddaughter is currently in custody. In the past three years, Mr. Li lived a lonely life. He was gravely concerned about his loved ones who had to leave town to avoid arrest or who were wrongfully imprisoned. He had been tormented by worry, loneliness, and thoughts of his children and grandchildren. Local police officers constantly came to his home late at night to harass him, demanding cash and information on the whereabouts of his family members. Mr. Li had been under extreme pressure and suffered from a great amount psychological pain. On October 31st, 2007, Mr. Li Jiuzhi died.

• Sixty Falun Gong Practitioners Being Tortured at Deyang Prison in Sichuan Province

  Currently, Communist regime agents still detain more than 60 practitioners in Deyang Prison. At times, over 100 practitioners have been detained there. Eighty-year-old Mr. Yang Shouming is the oldest. Younger practitioners detained there include college students and graduate students. They were sentenced up to 10 years in jail for practising Falun Gong. The police officers were told to use every means to "reform" the practitioners. During the day, all practitioners were forced to work alongside criminal inmates. During breaks, however, these inmates were allowed to rest, but practitioners were forced to stand with their heads bent down and some were punched and kicked. As a result of torture, Wu Shihai lost several teeth, was mentally traumatised, and became partially paralysed and permanently disabled.

• Yang Peizhan from Hubei Province and Fang Xinzhi from Hebei Province Died Due to Persecution

  Mr. Yang Peizhan, 73, recovered from multiple diseases as a result of practising Falun Gong. Because of his informing people about the persecution of Falun Gong and dispelling the state propaganda attacking the practice, Mr. Yang was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2003 and was detained at Shayang Prison Camp in Hubei Province. He was severely persecuted there, and as a result he often had blood in his urine and developed oedema all over his body. In order to avoid responsibility for Ms. Yang's death, the Communist Party agents allowed him to be released on bail for medical treatment in December 2006. However, the persecution had caused too much damage to his health, and Yang Peizhan died on July 15th, 2007.

• Married Couple from Linqu County, Shandong Province, Arrested Again and Their Factory Property Confiscated

  Mr. Xue Qingguo and his wife, Ms. Xu Guifeng, started to practise Falun Gong in 1997. Mr. Xue's temper became much better and Ms. Xu Guifeng's health improved and her breast cancer was cured without any medicine. Since July 20th, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has persecuted Falun Gong, and Mr. Xue Qingguo's family was broken up. In 2001, Mr. Xue was sentenced to three years of forced labour and suffered all kinds of torture in Changle Forced Labour Camp. Ms. Xu Guifeng was also seized by the head of the 610 Office, taken to the brainwashing centre, and was tormented for many days. In November 2007, the couple was arrested again. The police took away all their factory property and detained them at the Longgang Police Station.

• Guangzhou City Police Confiscate Ms. Zhou Lianzhang's Belongings Worth Ten Thousand Yuan

  On October 31st, 2007, several officials and police broke down the door and handcuffed 74-year-old Ms. Zhou Lianzhang. They ransacked boxes and chests, wilfully causing damage to things and making a mess. According to incomplete figures, they confiscated Ms. Zhou's treasured Falun Gong books, more than two thousand yuan cash, and some gold jewellery. These items were worth ten thousand yuan, and the invaders did not issue a list of items they took away. When her relatives reported the stolen property to the police and asked for the items' return, the police station clerk denied what had happened and berated the relatives, calling them liars.

• Persecution of Practitioners in Guan County, Shandong Province - Three Practitioners Dead

  Mr. Ren Zijing was sentenced to one-and-a-half years forced labour in October 2005. In the labour camp, he suffered brainwashing and torture. He was deprived of sleep, forced to sit on a small stool for long periods, scolded, beaten and forced to endure long-term force-feeding. The tube used for force-feeding was left in his stomach for days and disintegrated in his stomach, which caused him to suffer a lot and vomit. Because of the long-term persecution in the labour camp, he became a skeleton and was dying. He was then sent back home.

• Xu Guangdao Died as a Result of Torture - His Younger Brother Is Now Brutally Tortured

  In 2001, Mr. Xu Guangdao went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong and he was arrested and held in a detention centre. Because he went on a hunger strike for the right to practise the Falun Gong exercises, he was beaten many times and tortured with electric needles. Prisoners carried him back to the cell following the beating. He died that evening in February 2001. Recently, his brother has also suffered brutal treatment in police custody.

• Police from Panshan City, Liaoning Province Deliberately Shoot a Falun Gong Practitioner

  On the evening on November 13th, 2007, three police officers arrested Falun Gong practitioners Wang Jieming and Zhang Dalin, who were driving by in their car. Wang Jieming was handcuffed with his arms behind his back. The police beat him to the ground and made him lie on his stomach. One policeman then shot him in the buttocks. The bullet went out the other side. The police sent him to hospital without notifying his family. Wang Jieming is forced to wear handcuffs when he sleeps and is guarded by a number of police officers on shifts. No one is permitted to visit him.

• Practitioner Gao Guofen Hung Up in the Air for Ten Days

  On September 29th, 2007, Gao Guofen, a practitioner imprisoned at the Qianjin Forced Labour Camp in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, was hung up in a metal cage for ten days simply for saying, "Falun Dafa is good" during a labour camp meeting. She also said, "Please stop the persecution." She was brutally beaten by a group of guards, hung up in a metal cage (see illustration) and forbidden to sleep for ten days. Her toilet use was restricted, the food she received was scarce. The persecution made Gao Guofen unable to stand. Her legs and hands were swollen, hands trembling.

• 34-Year-Old Ms. Zhang Mingyi Died as a Result of Brutal Treatment in Zhejiang Women's Prison

  Ms. Zhang Mingyi was a Falun Gong practitioner. Seeing that the local people did not know the truth about Falun Gong, she informed people about the persecution and dispelled the state propaganda attacking the practice. Later, people who did not know the truth reported her, and Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials made her suffer for more than two years in the Zhejiang Province Women's Prison. Her health deteriorated due to the long term brutal treatment in the prison. She was constantly feverish, and the prison doctor injected some unknown drug into her, causing her to become extremely weak and quickly lose weight. After returning home, the doctor diagnosed her with hemolytic anaemia, hepatitis B and C. She died on August 29th, 2007, at only 34 years old.

• Mr. Xu Kai Unable to Walk as Result of Torture at the Hands of Police from the Cangzhou City National Security Division and the Handan Forced Labour Camp

  Mr. Xu Kai is from Cangzhou City in Hebei Province. On November 12th, 2007, his family went to the Handan City Forced Labour Camp to see him. He was very healthy and strong before his arrest. However, two guards had to physically support him during his family's visit. His facial expression appeared sluggish, and his face had obviously become disfigured. He could not raise his arms, nor did he have the strength to talk. He seemed to have lost much weight. He told the family that he had pain in his head. The two guards kept staring at Mr. Xu in an intimidating way, as if they were afraid he would speak out about the tortures he had been subjected to.

• Ms. Li Guiqing from Tonghua City in Jilin Province Tortured

  Ms. Li Guiqing , 53-years-old, was originally imprisoned in the Changchun City Women's Forced Labour Camp for practising Falun Gong. In June 2000, Ms. Guiqing went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. As a result she was arrested and detained in the Tonghua City Detention Centre for over a month and later sentenced to one year of forced labour. In the sixth team of the Changchun City Women's Forced Labour Camp, Captain Liu Ying and two other captains once shocked Ms. Guiqing with electric batons, beat her brutally, tried to coerce her into giving up her practice of Falun Gong, and forced her to do hard labour.

• Torture Tactics Used by Hongzehu Prison to Abuse Practitioners

  Captain Han Bushun of the New Detainee's Team in the third ward, together with political instructor Jiang Zhaoyuan and deputy political instructor Du Hongjun, instigate criminal inmates to threaten, physically punish, beat, and curse the newly detained practitioners. Sometimes they do it themselves. For instance, in February 2005, Han Bushun baited over 20 inmates with bonus points to beat practitioners from Lianyungang City. After the beatings, he ordered the inmates to drag the practitioners' bodies on the ground and run to cut and wound them all over.

• Graduate of Changchun Postal College Song Changguang Persecuted to Death in 2003

  Mr. Song Changguan went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested because he displayed a banner on Tiananmen Square. He was sent to Changchun's Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp. The conditions were totally disgusting and unsanitary there. Scabies spread throughout the entire labour camp. The perpetrators used hard wooden boards and plastic to beat the practitioners. Song Changguang was one of the worst cases. He had generalised infection, and scabies which covered 60% of his body. He had pus-filled blisters all over his body. Song Changguang was extremely malnourished and severely anaemic. On July 22nd, 2002, Fu Guohua saw that Song Changguang was dying and did not want him to die in labour camp, so he was sent home. Song Changguang's family took him to hospital for treatment, but it was too late. He passed away on November 12th 2003.
