• Mr. Li Zhanwu in Serious Condition from Abuse in Jilin Prison

  58-year-old Mr. Li Zhanwu was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment in Jilin prison in 2002. In December 2005, he fell in a toilet, suffered a concussion, and could not move. He was foaming at the mouth and unconscious. The prison authorities called his family and sent him to hospital for treatment. When his family went to visit him at the hospital, they found him emaciated and confined to bed. Mr. Li has been persecuted so severely that he now has symptoms of cerebral thrombosis and cardiac disease. He is confined to bed and cannot care for himself.

• Ms. Zhuang Yanhong, a Teacher from the Beijing University of Technology, Arrested for the Sixth Time and Sentenced to Forced Labour

  On September 11th, 2007, Ms. Zhuang Yanhong, a teacher from the Beijing University of Technology, was arrested for the sixth time. After her arrest, she was detained in the Fengtai District Detention Centre in Beijing. Even the police who arrested Ms. Zhunag stated that there was no incriminating evidence to arrest her. Ms. Zhuang was arrested while her students sat in the classroom waiting for her. Ms. Zhuang's parents requested a lawyer be present for legal consultation, however, the police did not allow a lawyer to meet with her.

• Mr. Zhang Yongjun from Rongchang County, Chongqing Municipality Sentenced to Nine and a Half Years in Prison

  Mr. Zhang Yongjun, 35, was arrested several times because he spoke out for justice for Falun Gong and distributed leaflets exposing the persecution. In June 2007 he was arrested again. While he was detained at the Lezhi County Detention Centre, Mr. Zhang went on a one-month hunger strike to protest the persecution. He subsequently became extremely weak. Although he is 5' 6" tall, his weight fell to 88 lbs. On October 26th, 2007, the Lezhi County court broke the law by failing to disclose the court date to Mr. Zhang's family. The court sentenced Mr. Zhang to nine and a half years in prison. On November 13th, Mr. Zhang was taken to the Wumaping Prison in Muchuan County, Leshan City.

• Older Mr. Zhao Fei Paralysed From Being Tortured in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

  On September 24th, Mr. Zhao Fei, a 53 year-old practitioner, was taken to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. He refused to cooperate with the unjust demands and spoke out for justice for Falun Gong. Male director Gao locked Mr. Zhao in a small cell and tormented him. He bound Mr. Zhao to an "iron chair" for more than 15 days. Moreover, the guards hit him with an electric baton and beat him violently. As a result, both of Mr. Zhao's legs became desensitised and paralysed. When he was in the canteen, the guards often connived and incited criminal inmates to drag Mr. Zhao around. After being dragged down the stairs and over the pebbled ground, it caused his legs and feet to bleed.

• The Persecution I Experienced and Witnessed in the Tianjin Women's Prison

  Detained in the Banqiao Women's Forced Labour Camp in Tianjin City, Ms. Wang Wenqing went on a hunger strike in protest. When her weight dropped from 60 kg to 20 kg, she was released for medical treatment. I witnessed the guards alternately torture, intimidate, and cajole her. The Fourth Prison is a notorious "model prison" in China. The persecution of practitioners there is among the most severe and brutal. To persecute Ms. Wang, for example, prison captain Li Hong boasted, "I will never let your weight drop below 20 kilos. I will fill you up with water, so that you weigh above 50 kilos." Ms. Wang was force-fed with watery flour soup. They often inserted a hard, thick 2-metre-long feeding tube into her stomach. Her stomach often bled as a result. The large amount of water poured into her stomach gave Ms. Wang excruciating stomachache.

• Ms. Li Cuiping Persecuted in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province

  Ms. Li Cuiping learned Falun Gong in 2000 whilst held in the detention centre on other charges. She has been detained at Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp for 15 months. After arriving at the camp, Ms. Li spoke out for justice for Falun Gong. They beat her and shocked her mouth with an electric baton. Later they took her to a room and placed her on a door plank. Wire restraints were fixed on either side of the plank. They placed her hands in the wire and bound her to the plank. They also took off her shoes and socks, squeezed her socks into her mouth, and connected her two forefingers to a power source. There was a square box next to her. Whenever they touched the box, she would be shocked into unbearable suffering.

• Masanjia Forced Labour Camp Guards Order Prisoners to Continuously Torture Practitioner Mr. Zhao Jian

  On September 21st, 2007, thirteen practitioners were sent to the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning Province. On October 12th, practitioner Mr. Zhao Jian refused to work as a slave labourer. Zhang (male), one of the camp supervisors ordered two prisoners to trample on his legs in order to force him to kneel, but Mr. Zhao firmly resisted. The same scenario was repeated four or five times and finally, some of the guards told other prisoners to take away most of Mr. Zhao's clothes, leaving only one outer garment. Mr. Zhao was forced to work in a corn field without appropriate clothing, although it was extremely cold. At night, the guards told thirty prisoners to make sure Mr. Zhao would give up his belief in Falun Dafa. He was forced to work until midnight for two days.

• Appeal to Rescue Falun Dafa Practitioner Mr. Han Chonghui, from Panjin City

  Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Han Chonghui has been detained and persecuted by the local police for eight years. In June 2003, he was arrested by police was beaten and held in the detention centre. Han Chonghui escaped after 12 days. He had 4,100 yuan in his pocket when he was arrested, but that money was taken by the policemen, as were his mobile phone and his car. This property hasn't been returned to him. On October 20th, 2007, Mr. Han went to Shenyang on business and he was arrested again. The police took ten thousand yuan from him. The police again detained Han Chonghui in the city detention centre and then sent him to a brainwashing centre in Fushun for persecution. Han Chonghui has been holding a hunger strike to protest his detention and persecution. He is in critical condition.

• Suzhou Prison in Anhui Province Forces Falun Gong Practitioners to Do Hard Labour

  Suzhou Prison in Anhui Province is known as Huateng Company. To outsiders, it advertises itself for foreign trade processing jobs. Falun Gong practitioners who are detained there are forced to make clothes in the prison. The workload is very heavy and the work hours are very long. Normally, practitioners have to start work every morning at 6:00 a.m. and work until after 11:00 p.m. Sometimes the work hours are extended even longer. The practitioners are tortured if they do not work or do not reach the production goals.

• The Persecution of Ms. Shi Yun and Her Husband, Mr. Jiang Yuliu, in Kunming City

  Ms. Shi Yun and Mr. Jiang Yuliu are teachers. They individually wrote public letters to their school and Education Commission in June 2004, telling of the immense mental and physical improvements they experienced after they began practising Falun Gong. They pointed out in particular that it was wrong to persecute Falun Gong and they hoped that their colleagues and supervisors could understand the truth of the situation. In July 2004, the police and school leaders deceived Mr. Jiang Yuliu and took him to Dapingba No. 2 Forced Labour Camp. His pregnant wife, Ms. Shi Yun, went from one place to another, campaigning for his cause. Ms. Shi had to care for the newborn alone and went through a long and difficult two years and seven months. On September 30th, 2007, the police arrested Ms. Shi and took her to the detention centre.

• Ms. Hou Manyun in Her 50s Cruelly Tortured

  After July 20th, 1999, the Chinese authorities have repeatedly harassed, arrested, imprisoned and tortured Ms. Hou Manyun, subjecting her and her family to the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) red terror. Her young son, attending elementary school, jumps at the sound of a doorbell and will not let anyone in until he or she announces himself or herself because he is afraid that it might be the Chinese police attempting to arrest his parents. The Chinese police arrested his mother and sent his father to a forced labour camp. The police even threaten a child his age who practises Falun Gong by saying, "Do you dare practise Falun Gong now? If so, we will lock up you too!" The two children almost burst into tears out of fear.

• Before 67-Year-Old Qi Tingsong Died as a Result of Torture, Laiwu City Police Filed Records Claiming He "Committed Suicide in Fear of Punishment"

  Mr. Qi Tingsong, a 67-year-old Falun Gong practitioner was arrested on October 15th, 2007. He was severely tortured by the police until his death on November 11th. On November 6th, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police met at the Liangpo Police Station. They falsely recorded that Qi Tingsong had "committed suicide in fear of punishment" at the meeting. Before Qi Tingsong went into a coma from the torture, he had severe hemorrhage during his bowel movement. He also spat blood from his mouth. The medical examination record also clearly indicated that he had severe liver, heart and kidney failure, anaemia due to blood transfusion and upper digestive tract hemorrhage. His lips had become rotten. His tongue was black and had been cut shorter as there was a clearly cut section. His lower back and arms had severe scars.

• Famous Calligrapher Liu Xitong in Qingdao City Arrested for Exhibiting His Work

  On November 12th, 2007, Falun Gong practitioner, calligrapher Liu Xitong and his wife Liu Aifang were arrested by police officers. The Lius' home was ransacked. From November 3rd to 8th, Mr. Liu Xitong had successfully held a six-day calligraphy exhibition in the Publishing Art Hall in Qingdao City. An administrator in Qingdao City stated: "We held numerous calligraphy exhibitions; this is the most successful one." On November 13th, Xiangtan Road Police decided to officially detain Mr. Liu for one month.

• Inmates in Sichuan Women's Forced Labour Camp Beat Deng Li and Broke Her Left Hip

  Ms. Deng Li, a forty-six-year-old Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested by police and taken to Sichuan Women's Forced Labour Camp on August 27th, 2007. In the camp Ms. Deng was ordered to write a guarantee statement to renounce Falun Gong, but Ms. Deng refused. An inmate then pulled Deng Li upstairs and proceeded to kick her in the hips. Guards again ordered her to write the statement. As she refused inmates violently slapped and punched Ms. Deng left eye causing her vision to blur, and her face and mouth became distorted from the beating. Then they beat her until she became unconscious.

• Mr. Cai Zhigang Died Far from Home as a Result of Persecution

  Mr. Cai was first arrested on October 21st, 2000. Police arrested Mr. Cai when he was purchasing materials for his employer. He was forcibly taken into custody then detained for more than two months in the detention centre. The police extorted 20,000 yuan from his family before releasing him, and his employer ended his contract without reason. He was arrested again in 2001 and tortured with a cruel method of "Carrying a Sword on the Back" for more than three hours at one time. Later Mr. Cai became homeless to avoid arrest. In the long three-and-a-half years he spent away from home, Cai Zhigang endured all sorts of hardships, especially the mental burden of the fact that his whole family had lost their source of income. Mr. Cai became sick due to the huge mental pressure and he died on November 17th, 2007, still far away from home.
