  • Mr. Wang Gang Persecuted to Death

    Mr. Wang Gang was arrested and detained in 2003 because he practised Falun Gong. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2004. On May 19th, 2005, they locked Mr. Wang in solitary confinement for 10 days. He was carried in on a bed board with three metal rods welded to the top, two shackles on his feet, and a big belt crossed-tied on his waist. Guards kicked him brutally. In May 2005, a doctor found that that the bone, muscles, and vessels in his right leg were all dead. Warden Gao Ying ordered the amputation of his right leg. Only three inches of his right leg remained. It was not until October 14th, 2009, when he was diagnosed with late-stage cancer in his lymph nodes, that the prison finally released him. Mr. Wang died on October 31st.
  • Two Innocent Women Imprisoned, Their Daughters Denied the Right to Appeal

    On October 23rd, practitioners Ms. Li Jie and Ms. Sun Yuqin were imprisoned in the notorious Masanjia labour camp in Shenyang city after they were caught by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong. Their daughters were not allowed to appeal on their behalf. They then went to appeal office of the Dandong public security bureau. The director told them, "Li Jie has been sent to a forced labour camp for one and a half years, Sun Yuqin for one year."
  • Mr. Dong Jiahe from Huili County, Sichuan Province, Shares His Persecution Experiences

    Mr. Dong Jiahe is a Falun Gong practitioner from Sichuan Province. Because of his firm belief in Falun Gong, he was sentenced to forced labour twice and detained for a total of four years. In 2002 he was arrested and he recounts: "Police used a plastic bag to cover my head and fastened it tightly around my neck. I almost suffocated. They handcuffed me to a metal window. One policeman beat me using a wooden stick while other officers beat and brutally kicked me. "What's your name? Where are you from? Where did you get the Falun Gong materials?" I only replied, "Falun Gong is good!" Hearing this, they beat me more violently. When I fainted, they poured cold water on me, trying to wake me up. Later, they continued beating me until I fainted again."
  • Grandmother Publicly Appeals for Family Members Persecuted for Practising Falun Gong

    On November 1st, 2009, Falun Gong practitioner Chuang Jing's daughter, Ms. Ma Xiaoliang took her elderly, blind grandmother to the Shuiyuanshan morning market. The 80-something year old grandmother was carrying a transparent, plastic envelope with an open letter inside. On the open letter was the word "injustice." There were also pictures of her son, Ma Xuejun, who appeared to be very sick and frail, due to the torture inflicted upon him because he practises Falun Gong. The grandmother told them that her daughter-in-law was arrested by police and had been detained in a forced labour camp. She also said that her son was in the labour camp, persecuted and tortured nearly to death. He is now paralysed.
  • Mr. Li Yunbiao, 50, Dies in Custody in Heilongjiang Province

    During the past ten years of persecution, Mr. Li Yunbiao has never had one day of peace in his life, as his days were filled with imprisonment, cruel beatings, living away from home, and sickness. Since the start of the persecution in 1999, Mr. Li was detained several times. In August 2005, he was sentenced to eight years in Bei'an City Prison. Mr. Li was forced to be under strict control and to do slave labour. The food was extremely bad, and with the torture he became as thin as a skeleton. He could not endure such inhuman mistreatment any longer and went on a hunger strike to protest again. He never gave in despite guards cruelly force-feeding him. In October 2006, he was taken to the Bei'an Prison Hospital. He was very weak and died on October 18th, 2009.
  • Older practitioner Ms. Cao Shuanmei Beaten to Death in Shanxi Province Women's Prison

    When Ms. Cao Shuangmei went to Jiexiu City to pass out Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution in the summer of 2003, she was arrested, her home was ransacked, and she was detained. After going on a hunger strike for seven days to protest her imprisonment, the police released her. One month later, the police arrested Ms. Cao again, without cause, and severely tortured her. In January 2008, police arrested Ms. Cao at home. A warden at Shanxi Province Women's Prison, encouraged inmates to brutally beat Ms. Cao in her cell, eventually causing her untimely death in July 2009. The prison authorities lied to her family, saying that she had died due to a sudden heart attack.
  • Mr. Zhang Qin on Hunger Strike for Over 150 Days

    On June 4th, 2009, practitioner Mr. Zhang Qi from Shanghai City was arrested by police. He has been on a hunger strike for more than 150 days at the Xuhui Area Detention Centre to protest the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) persecution of himself and his family. While he became very weak due to the persecution, he persisted in doing the Falun Gong exercises at the detention centre. The CCP authorities refused to provide medical treatment for Mr. Zhang, and instead they administered brutal force-feedings on him in the detention centre's hostile environment.
  • Hongta District Court Sentences Ms. Deng Zhixu to Five Years

    On September 29th, 2009, the Hongta District Court sentenced practitioner Ms. Deng Zhixu to five years in prison. Since 2000 when Ms. Deng went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practise Falun Gong she has been repeatedly arrested and persecuted. In June 2009, police arrested and sent her to the Jiulongchi Detention Centre. Ms. Deng went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution, and was subjected to brutal forced-feeding. To rescue her, her family sold their house to be able to afford a lawyer. The lawyer, after learning that the case was related to Falun Gong, told the family that a special meeting was organised to convey the message from top authorities that all lawyers are prohibited from defending Falun Gong practitioners.
  • An Unfinished Article by a Practitioner That Died as a Result of Persecution

    Ms. Li Xiuzhen was arrested at the entrance of the building where she rented an apartment by agents from the Anqiu City State Security Bureau and the local police on June 13th, 2009. Ms. Li's whereabouts remained unknown until a month later, when her family found out that she was being held at the Anqiu City Detention Centre. She refused to give up her belief in Falun Gong and held a hunger strike to protest the persecution, but she was brutally force-fed. Later she was taken to a brainwashing session at the Anqiu City Party School. She was later taken to a brainwashing session organised just for her and was brutally beaten. Ms. Li finally died as a result of persecution in October.
  • Account of Persecution Suffered by Ms. Lu Xueqin from Qingdao, Shandong Province

    Falun Gong practitioner Lu Xueqin has repeatedly been persecuted by officers from the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), police stations, and brainwashing centres. Her most recent ordeal began in January 2008, when the Qingdao City 610 Office initiated an operation called "Case of 13 People" to target local Falun Gong practitioners. The police arrested and interrogated her, using torture to force her to confess that she was a "key player," which Ms. Lu resolutely denied. She was once not allowed to sleep for nine straight days, which resulted in her fainting several times. Her health declined rapidly but the police kept her from receiving medical treatment. As a result, she became paralysed from the waist down.
  • Ms. Tang Wenyan and Ms. Tang Wenjuan, Sisters from Hebei Province, Suffer Persecution

    Sisters Ms. Tang Wenyan and Ms. Tang Wenjuan are Falun Gong practitioners from Pingshan County in Hebei Province. They were arrested about five years ago for telling people about the persecution of Falun Gong. They have suffered forced brainwashing and were subjected to forced labour. Their family members were also implicated and persecuted.
  • Wu Keli and Yuan Wenxin, Husband and Wife from Jilin Province, Are Imprisoned

    Wu Keli, 61, and Yuan Wenxin, 57, husband and wife and both Falun Gong practitioners, have been imprisoned and tortured. Ms. Yuan has been imprisoned twice in a forced labour camp, and Mr. Wu was given a jail term in 2003 after being tortured. Ms. Yuan says: "My mother has three daughters. She has seen all of us endure forced labour. Her son-in-law and youngest grandson were given 5 and 4-year jail terms. Her eldest grandson was held in the Fushun City Brainwashing Centre in Liaoning Province, and her granddaughter was forced to leave home and become destitute. The cruel persecution and heavy mental blows caused her death even though she had always been strong and healthy. She was unable to see her son-in-law before she died on December 31st, 2006."
  • Ms. Wang Li Dies Eight Days after Being Arrested in Shandong Province

    On October 20th, 2009, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Li, 38, was arrested and sent to Gaomi City Detention Centre. On October 28th, when Ms. Wang's family brought some clothes for her, they were suddenly told that she had already died of a stroke. Her family saw that her body was covered with wounds. The source of information reported that Ms. Wang refused to answer any questions during interrogations, and the police beat her to death.
  • Ms. Sun Shuxiang Close to Death in Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp after Being Arrested 12 Times

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Sun was taken to Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp on October 26th, 2009. She is now close to death. She has been arrested, detained, sentenced to forced labour, and tortured at least 12 times. In 2002, a police officer slapped her and asked which fellow practitioners she knew. Ms. Sun refused to tell them anything. He then used an electric baton to shock her deep in between her lower ribs. He changed to another baton with a higher voltage and started to shock the tips of her toes and up her whole body twice. Then the officer targeted her eyes with the electric baton. She felt as if her eyes were about to fall out, and she could hardly see. Ms. Sun almost died.
  • Mr. Zhang Chunqiu in Hunan Province Persecuted for Eight Years

    Mr. Zhang Chunqiu, 46, a practitioner in Yiyang City, Hunan Province, has been persecuted and undergone all sorts of torture over the past eight years. In Hunan Province First Jail, the guards forced Mr. Zhang to get up at 4:00 a.m. to begin working and not let him rest until 11:00 p.m. Mr. Zhang firmly refused. The squadron leader hung Mr. Zhang up with his hands tied behind his back, and then they hung a 300 pound wooden block on his neck by a thin steel wire. Painted on the block are the words: "For being defiant to the police and refusing to change." This is the famous torture method called "rather die" that was widely used in the past in Chinese Communist Party (CCP) prisons.
