  • More Than 100 Male Falun Gong Practitioners Held and Tortured in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

    Guards tortured practitioners and forced them to write statements to denounce Falun Gong. Those who refused to write the statements were tortured at night. The perpetrators threatened them, saying, "You will be killed if you do not write the statements. We have a death quota." The victims are tortured non-stop without being allowed to sleep. Practitioner Mr. Li Hailong suffered so much that he could not walk and could not get himself to the dining room without two persons to support him. Two months later, he remains in this condition. Mr. Cui Dejun was crippled from torture, but the guards insisted that he was pretending and grabbed his hair and slammed his head against a wall. Later, he was subjected to the death bed torture.
  • Practitioners Tortured in the Second Women's Section of Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, Liaoning Province; Many Injured

    In the Second Women's Section of Masanjia Forced Labour Camp Falun Gong practitioners are being mistreated in a new way, by being forced to take a so-called "100 per cent exam." For this exam they are ordered to acknowledge the mistreatment they have been subjected to, including mental humiliation. Because the practitioners have refused to endorse the mistreatment, the guards beat and torture them. On October 7th and 8th, 2008, guards tortured practitioners Ms. Wang Chunying, Ms. Qi Zhenhong, Ms. Zhong Shujian, and Ms. Zhang Qilin from 6 to 72 hours. As a result, Ms. Qi suffered a mental disorder, Ms. Wang could not straighten her hands, Ms. Zhang's arms were broken and she became crippled, and Ms. Zhong was subjected to the "stretching torture" for 48 hours.
  • Ms. Liang Yuzhen and Ms. Liang Jinyou Tortured in Heshan City, Guangdong Province

    On February 25th, 2009, Ms. Liang Yuzhen went to the countryside to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong and was arrested. That same evening, police officers handcuffed Ms. Liang's hands behind her back, dragged her all the way to her home, and then thoroughly ransacked it. When the officers were about to leave, Ms. Liang's 89-year-old grandmother, who was home at the time, held onto Ms. Liang's arm and wouldn't let go. She pleaded with the officers, saying, "I need her to take care of me! Please let her stay!" The officers simply loosened the grandmother's hands and took Ms. Liang away.
  • Abuse of Falun Gong Practitioners Detained in Shiliping Forced Labour Camp in Zhejiang Province - Compilation of Information Dating Back to 1999

    To achieve its goal of "reforming1" all detained practitioners, Zhejiang Provincial Forced Labour Bureau personnel worked together with the labour camp to develop a series of tactics to physically and mentally harm practitioners. For instance, they forced practitioners to sit in a chair with their limbs tied to it and wouldn't let them sleep or use the toilet. At the same time, they turned on a speaker to its highest volume and broadcast their propaganda information. If a practitioner dozed off he would be burned with a cigarette and force-fed hot chilli pepper juice. They also forced practitioners to write statements giving up their cultivation and kept whoever refused to write them tied to the chair for a long time.

    Mr. Wu Zhaobin is a practitioner from Cang County, Hebei Province. He has been suffering from mental illness since his torture in the Shijiazhuang Forced Labour Camp. He was arrested before the Beijing Olympics, and he is still in prison. The police have ignored the Wu family's requests for a psychological evaluation and denied their visitation requests. They have refused to inform the family of Mr. Wu's whereabouts. In August 1999, Mr. Wu was detained for a month after appealing in Beijing for the right to practise Falun Gong. In September, after appealing in Beijing s second time, Mr. Wu was detained for two additional months and then imprisoned for over a year. In the Shijiazhuang Forced Labour Camp, Mr. Wu was subjected to electric shocks and torture. As a result of endless brainwashing and torture, Mr. Wu developed a mental illness and was released.
  • Ms. Zhao Qiuying Arrested by Four Policemen

    On February 29th, 2009, 58-year-old Ms. Zhao Qiuying from Beijing was taken away from her own clothing booth by four policemen from the Dongsheng Police Station in the Haidian District. When the police arrived at the booth, they surrounded it, intending to take her away. Ms. Zhao did not cooperate with them, but they started a search and found two brochures that explained the facts about Falun Gong. Afterwards, they dragged her into a police vehicle. At around 4 p.m., the police vehicle arrived at Ms. Zhao's home. The police searched her home and took away a Falun Gong book, two brochures, and five or six CD's. That night, Ms. Zhao's family learned that she had been taken to the Qinghe Detention Centre.

    In October 2000, in order to speak the truth about Falun Gong, I went to Beijing to appeal. At the Beijing Qianmen Police Station, I was brutally beaten, leaving my entire body green and purple with bruises. After five days of torture, I was taken to my hometown by police and imprisoned in the Acheng District Second Detention Centre for twenty-five days. At around 7:00 p.m. January 24th, 2008, I went to a friend's to lend her my hair dryer. As soon as I entered her home, I was attacked by four or five policemen who were lying in wait. I was pulled and dragged into a police car, and taken to the Yuquan Town Public Security Bureau. The police took away my hair dryer and said, "This is a criminal device. We can't give it back to you." I was detained in the Acheng Second Detention Centre for eight days and inhumanely tortured.

    Nine years ago, when Falun Gong was persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), I went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing to appeal against the persecution. I was arrested and beaten, and then put into a detention centre. There I was persecuted severely, suffering many tortures. When we were taken to the detention centre, we were forced to stand along a wall all day long in the freezing cold. I was beaten severely by the guards for not telling them my name [Note: Because of the CCP's policy of implication, Falun Gong practitioners often do not reveal their name or address in order to protect family members, friends and co-workers from being harassed and persecuted by CCP officials]. The guard even used a belt to strangle my neck until the belt broke.

    My husband, a Falun Gong practitioner, was sent to Daqing Prison in Heilongjiang Province in 2007. It has been more than two years now, and we have only seen each other three times during the first year. Later, Daqing Prison would not allow me to see him anymore under the excuse that he refused to wear the prisoner's uniform. I haven't seen my husband for more than a year now. On February 24th, 2009, I was told that there was news on the Internet about my husband being beaten by prison guards. My husband and three other inmates were beaten nine times in five days by three guards with policemen's batons. His arms, legs and hip were seriously injured. I was really worried.
  • Police Arrest Supermarket Owners Mr. Qi Wanchuan and His Wife, Ms. Liu Bing'e, and Steal Their Money

    Mr. Qi Wanchuan and Ms. Liu Bing'e, husband and wife, are practitioners in Kongjiazhuang, Wanquan County, Hebei Province. They were arrested at their supermarket by officers led by chief Li Fenglou from the Wanquan Police Department. Valuables from their home and the cash in the register, totalling more than 10,000 yuan, were stolen. The family was traumatized by the incident. Mr. Qi is currently detained in Wanquan County Jail. Ms. Liu is detained in Shisanli Jail in Zhangjiakou City. Ms. Liu is on a hunger strike to protest the persecution, and she is very weak.
  • The Cruel Persecution of Older Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Shi Changying by Police in Dong County, Anhui Province

    The police from Dong County, Anhui Province persecuted 58-year-old practitioner Shi Changying, causing her to lose her eye sight in one eye. Recently she was arrested and incarcerated by the police again. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel saw that she was dying and quickly forced her son to bring money to bail her out. They said that if she died, it was none of their business. They claimed that her son should be responsible for her and forced him to sign a document for confirmation.
  • Ms. Ma Xiulan, 69, Dies Due to Abuse in Detention

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Ma Xiulan, 69 years old, was arrested and detained in the Nanhai District Detention Centre in June 2008. She was inhumanly tortured, forced to sleep on the cement floor, shocked with an electric baton, and beaten, resulting in bruises all over her body. On January 6th, 2009, the Centre suddenly notified her family to pick her up from the police hospital. Ms. Ma died on March 16th, 2009.
  • Mr. Ma Yingxuan, Almost 70, Spends Three Years in Jail in Jiangsu Province

    Mr. Ma Yingxuan, nearly 70 years old, was arrested in 2002 because he practises Falun Gong. The police handcuffed him and covered his head with a black bag each time they brought him in for interrogation. In the police station, Mr. Ma was so badly tortured that there were all kinds of injuries all over him. Mr. Ma was sentenced to a three-and-a-half-year term. Later Mr. Ma was taken to the Taian jail and was imprisoned under heavy security, including being watched 24 hours a day by surveillance cameras, guards, and prison inmates who acted as informers.
  • Wang Kun Jailed for Over Half a Year

    In the summer of 2008, Mr. Wang Kun was arrested by the chief of the local police station. He has been detained ever since. His mother, being sick herself, tried to appeal for help, but to no avail. At his trial Mr. Wang's lawyer argued that he is innocent. The participants from the prosecutor's side knew that they did not have a case, lacking any legal basis and not having enough evidence, yet police prepared 2,000 copies of Falun Gong materials as false evidence to convict Mr. Wang. The family members have just received notice that Acheng Court would try Wang Kun again on March 9th, 2009.
  • The Arrest of Ms. Liang Yuzhen from Heshan City, Guangdong Province

    On February 25th, 2009, Ms. Liang Yuzhen was arrested by police officers from Heshan City. She was reported to the police while she distributed Falun Gong informational materials in the countryside. At 9:00 p.m., her home was ransacked. The police took Ms. Liang, whose hands were handcuffed behind her back, to her home. Only her 89-year-old grandmother was there. The police didn't show any search warrant but searched her home anyway, leaving her apartment in a mess. They also confiscated what cash she had at home and took some of the informational materials, as well as Falun Gong books, her brother's computer, and other items. The police didn't have any legal documents for her arrest, to search the home, or for her detention.
