Ten Lawyers Defy Pressure from the Judicial Bureau to Give Up Defending Falun Gong Practitioners
2009-02-21The Huanggu District Court of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, planned to hold a "trial" of six Falun Gong practitioners on February 6th, 2009. Before the court convened, all ten lawyers involved in the case received phone calls from the city judicial bureau and the district judicial office. The judicial authorities threatened the lawyers, telling them not to defend their clients' claims of innocence, or to challenge court decisions in the case. The lawyers decided to carry on in the practitioners' defence. Hence, the authorities' plot to pressure the lawyers came to nothing. -
Ms. Yin Youlian from Ezhou City Arrested and Tortured
2009-02-21Ms. Yin Youlian, 32, was arrested on January 11th, 2009, with other practitioners when they were distributing Falun Gong flyers in a village. It was winter and the temperature was below freezing. At the police station, the policemen took off Ms. Yin Youlian's coat, leaving her in only a single layer of clothing. They beat her and turned a fan on towards her. She was tortured for the entire night. According to inside sources, Ms. Yin was secretly sentenced to do forced labour. Her family has yet to receive any notification about her situation. -
The Persecution of Ms. Liu Xiaoling in Tanghai County and Luannan County, Hebei Province
2009-02-21Ms. Liu Xiaoling is almost 60 years old. In January 2004, she went to a village to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong and was arrested by police. Ms. Liu was taken to the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp for a two-year sentence. The inmates there bound her and beat her every day for 39 days in her cell. She suffered a mental collapse. In October 2004, police broke into her home and arrested Ms. Liu again. In a brainwashing centre she was burned, beaten, and verbally abused. She was force-fed and forced to have intravenous injections for no medical reason. Guards said her death would be announced as a suicide. Since June 2008, Ms. Liu has been detained again. -
Mr. Zheng Huiwang Secretly Given a Ten-Year Sentence; Family Visits Are Denied
2009-02-21Practitioner Mr. Zheng Huiwang was arrested at his home by police on January 21st, 2008. In March 2008, his family received a notice that Mr. Zheng had been sentenced to ten years in Baoding prison. In December 2008, Mr. Zheng's 72-year-old father went to the prison to visit his son. The warden refused him visit no matter what he said. Mr. Zheng has never given up his belief even though he has been arrested many times since July 1999. He has been sent to forced labour camps, brainwashing centres, and prison, and he was once homeless. -
Children of Mr. Jiang Xiqing Seek Explanation for His Suspicious Death in Labour Camp
2009-02-20Mr. Jiang Xiqing, 66, was taken to the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp several days before the Olympic Games started. On January 28th, 2009, he died because of severe persecution. The circumstances surrounding his death is very suspicious and full of contradictory evidence. Six hours after his death was announced by the guards, his body was still warm. Mr. Jiang's children insisted on receiving an explanation. -
Mr. Wang Donghai Dies after Long term Persecution in Hebei Province
2009-02-20Mr. Wang Donghai, 51, was repeatedly persecuted for practising Falun Gong. On July 14th, 2008, 610 Office agents harassed Mr. Wang at home again and attempted to force him to sign his name to stop practising Falun Gong. They threatened to take him to the county brainwashing centre. In January 2009, officials harassed Mr. Wang at home again and forced him to answer questions so he would stop practising. The repeated harassment caused Mr. Wang Donghai to become very anxious. He died on January 25th, 2009. -
Mr. Mou Lunhui Viciously and Repeatedly Beaten Unconscious by Police and Labour Camp Guards
2009-02-20Mr. Mou Lunhui, in his forties, has been arrested numerous times by the Wanzhou District police over the past nine years. He was viciously tortured at various detention centres and at the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp, losing consciousness on several occasions. On December 30th, 2008, Mr. Mou was arrested again by police. It turned out that the police had secretly transferred Mr. Mou to the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp to serve a 21-month term on January 16th, 2009.The police did not issue any legal papers regarding his arrest or imprisonment nor did they notify his family. -
Elderly Practitioner Xi Liling Is Persecuted and Tortured for Her Belief
2009-02-20Practitioner Ms. Xi Liling, 69 years old, was arrested by police and detained in a detention centre in 1999. The police forced the practitioners to peel 1.5 to 2 kilograms of watermelon seeds until they finished their workloads. Otherwise, they were not allowed to sleep. They had to squat on their heels the whole time, and were not allowed to sit, stand, or kneel. The skin on their fingers was broken and bleeding due to the long hours of arduous work. In 2000, Ms. Xi was imprisoned in Ping'antai Forced Labour Camp for one year. In 2002, she was tortured with a method called the "Live Tiger Bench". Police handcuffed her hands behind her back, bound her forearms with a thick rope and hung her from a high rack, with her toes barely touching the floor. -
Ms. Sun Aimei Dies in the Shandong Province Forced Labour Camp; Family Only Sees Her Cremation Urn
2009-02-19On March 25th, 2008, the police arrested Ms. Sun Aimei, around 60 years old, while she was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong and they took her to the Wangcun Women's Forced Labour Camp on March 28th, 2008. At the end of 2008, the camp administration called and told her family to bring 5,000 yuan and visit her. Upon arriving, her family heard that she had suffered a severe case of cerebral thrombosis and had undergone open-skull surgery. Her family handed over the money, but were not allowed to see her. On February 1st, 2009, her family was notified to return to the labour camp again, but this time they were given the urn with her ashes. -
Many Practitioners Persecuted in Zhucheng City, Shandong Province--Two Still Missing
2009-02-19On October 10th, 2008, Ms. Zhang Zelan, 53, was arrested by police who broke into her home without following due process, and stole her property. Ms. Zhang was later detained in Zhucheng Jail. On November 8th, the police said that she had been taken to Wangcun Women's Forced Labour Camp to serve eighteen months. When Ms. Zhang's husband went to the labour camp to see her and bring her some clothes, he was told that she was not there. Returning to the police department, he was told that Ms. Zhang was still in the jail. On January 20th, 2009, Ms. Zhang was taken by the police to Wangcun Women's Forced Labour Camp, where she had previously served three years back in November 2000. -
The Beijing Dispatch Centre Moves Ms. Li Xiuqing to an Undisclosed Location
2009-02-19On July 26th, 2008, dozens of police officers from the Tongzhou State Police Branch in Beijing intruded into Ms. Li Xiuqing's home. They arrested her and sentenced her to forced labour for two years on August 2nd. She was persecuted while detained at the Beijing Dispatch Centre in Daxing County. January 19th, 2009 was the date Ms. Li's family could come to visit her. Nevertheless, just before her husband and children were coming to see her, they received a phone call from someone who did not identify themselves, telling them that Ms. Li had already been transferred away. No further details of her whereabouts were given. Ms. Li's family suspect that she might have been sent to the labour camp in the Inner Mongolia region. -
Village Woman Beaten to Death, Seven Killers Still at Large Three Years Later
2009-02-19Ms. Li Xuemei was a village woman from Shandong Province. Simply because she practises Falun Gong, seven people beat her to death, incited by the local 610 Office. Three years later, the seven killers are still still at large. In order to force Ms. Li to give up her belief, the 610 Office used money and threats to instigate officials to trick Ms. Li into coming to Li Xingyi's home. They used several methods to torture her. They prevented her from sleeping and choked her. She was pushed down, and they used a rolling pin to roll her body. As result, Ms. Li died during the night of November 24th, 2005. -
Ms. Yang Xiujie Tortured to Critical Condition in Heizuizi Women's Forced Labour Camp, Camp Administration Deceived and Threatened Her Family
2009-02-18Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang Xiujie was put into the Changchun City Heizuizi Women's Forced Labour Camp in 2008, where she was severely tortured. She is now in critical condition and could die at any time. Ms. Yang had frequent heart attacks in the labour camp. She was diagnosed with coronary heart disease and high blood pressure. According to labour camp regulations, she already qualifies for bail to seek medical treatment. The labour camp has denied the diagnosis and declined to reveal her condition. They lied to and threatened her family members and refused to release Ms. Yang. -
Two Practitioners Die Under Persecution In Liaoning and Hubei Provinces
2009-02-18Mr. Yang Yushan, 76, lived in the Retired Army Officer Home on the Zhuanshan Army Base in Dalian City. In nine years of persecution, Mr. Yang and his wife (also a practitioner) went to Beijing to appeal and explain that Falun Gong is a good practice. They were threatened and detained in the Dalian City Drug Rehabilitation Centre, the Yaojia Detention Centre, and the Dalian City Labour Camp. Their home was ransacked many times. Mr. Yang died on September 5th, 2008 as a result of both mental and physical injuries. -
The Persecution of Ms. Jiang Deyuan
2009-02-18On June 17th, 2008, police came to my home, saying someone had reported that I distributed flyers about Falun Gong. They took me to the police department. In the detention centre, I went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Twelve days passed. Qin Shijun, the chief of the detention centre, sent me to the county hospital for forced-feeding. The doctor could not insert the feeding tube even after he tried for some time. He said, "We can force feed her after cutting her trachea open." Qin Shijun did not agree. I lost consciousness after the doctor injected me with an unknown drug. When I woke up, my hands were handcuffed to the bed rail in the detention centre. Tubing had been inserted into my nose.
