  • Recent Persecution of Practitioners in Xintai City, Shandong Province

Around June 20th, practitioner Ms. An Yan, a teacher, was arrested by Xintai City Education Department and the 610 Office. In the detention centre, she was persecuted until she lost consciousness. Because Ms. An did not cooperate with the interrogation and did not give up her practice of Falun Gong, she was sentenced to two years of forced labour. She is now in the Shandong No. 1 Women's Forced Labour Camp. Because she has some illnesses, she was released on medical parole and is now at home.
  • Shandong Forced Labour Camp Refuses to Let Ms. Zhang Chenglan's Son Visit Her

On August 12th, 2008, Ms. Zhang Chenglan, a Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested. She was later sentenced to one and a half years in the Shandong Province First Women's Forced Labour Camp. Camp personnel have repeatedly denied Ms. Zhang Chenglan's son's requests to visit his mother. Before the Chinese New Year, he was turned away again. On January 15th, 2009, someone at the labour camp called Zhang Chenglan's niece and asked that her relatives come to the camp to visit Ms. Zhang. Zhang Chenglan's son also went to visit his mother. Guard Han, asked him, "How do you feel about your parents practising Falun Gong?" He answered, "I don't oppose it." Han got angry immediately and said, "I won't allow you to visit your mother!"
  • Mr. Zhang Wenliang Dies in Shandong Province after Years of Persecution

Mr. Zhang Wenliang, 37, went to Beijing several times to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong, and was arrested. In 2007 he was sent to a forced labour camp in Wangcun for 18 months. In 2008, he became very weak while in Wangcun Labour Camp, and was treated at Wangcun Hospital. By the time he checked out of the hospital in October 2008, he could not take care of himself, and his life was in danger. Even in such a poor condition, local police continued to harass him at home often. He died on December 6th, 2008.
  • Mr. Ding Guohua Dies Shortly After Being Released from Forced Labour Camp

On May 26th, 2008, police, and community administration arrested Mr .Ding Guohua and imprisoned him in a detention centre. In August 2008, he was taken to Nanhu Forced Labour Camp in Xuancheng City. In less than six months, he went from being healthy to being bedridden due to the brutal mistreatment. Due to the extra-heavy hard labour and severe living conditions, Mr. Ding soon became very sick, but the guards still forced him work to until he was bedridden. Mr. Ding's family heard that he was very sick and went to visit him, but the camp administration refused to let them see each other. One week later after his family came, the guards saw that Mr Ding was dying, and allowed his family to pick him up. Soon after he returned home, he died on January 13th, 2009.
  • Further Information about the Death of Mr. Jiang Xiqing in the Chongqing City Forced Labour Camp

On January 28th, 2009, seven hours after Xishanping Forced Labour Camp declared Mr. Jiang Xiqing dead, his children found that his philtrum, chest, belly and legs were still warm. They were shocked, and shouted, "Dad is still alive! Quickly rescue him!" They tried to do artificial respiration, but more than twenty guards forcibly dragged them out of the funeral home. When Mr. Jiang's family visited him 24 hours before his death, he was fine. How did he suddenly die of illness, as the labour camp official alleged? Why did his family did not hear from the labour camp if he was so sick as to be close to death? The suspicious nature of Mr. Jiang's death and the labour camp's clumsy attempts to cover up the cause of death have led the family to suspect that Mr. Jiang was murdered.
  • I Witnessed Falun Gong Practitioners Suffering Abuse in the Women's Prison of Wuhan City, Hubei Province

I was a regular inmate in the Women's Prison of Wuhan City. At the end of 2003, another Falun Gong practitioner named Ms. Sun Xiuqin entered the prison ward where I was being held. There are many methods of torture used in the Wuhan Women's Prison. Inmates are never respected, guards will treat inmates really nicely only if the inmates are wealthy or powerful. They are really cruel to Falun Gong practitioners. They would try to force them to give up their belief, make them watch slanderous videotapes, and force them to do hard labour, day and night. If they didn't cooperate, they would be strung up to a metal door.
  • I Was Brutally Tortured in Zhongba Forced Labour Camp in Guizhou Province

I am a Falun Gong practitioner in Guizhou Province. Since I wouldn't give up my belief in Falun Gong and insisted on practising, in 2001 I was detained and sent to the Zhongba Forced Labour Camp. I was brutally tortured there for three years. They used various inhumane methods to try to force me to give up my belief, and the supervisor at my workplace suspended my job and my salary. In Zhongba Forced Labour Camp I was forced to run in the yard for a very long time. They forced me to practise military marching manoeuvres, such as standing for a long time, kneeling down and standing up (sometimes on one leg) thousands of times. This "military training" lasted five hours in the morning and four hours in the afternoon everyday.
  • Two Practitioners Persecuted to Death in Gansu and Hebei Provinces

Ms. Li Guiqin, 68, became healthy through practising Falun Gong. Since the persecution of Falun Gong started in July 1999, Ms. Li was taken into custody and tortured to the point where she suffered a mental collapse. In 2004 she broke her arm and injured her hip in a fall, making it very difficult for her to walk. When she went to a hospital, the doctor refused to treat her, saying that she was too old. Soon after that she became bedridden for four years and was as thin as a rail. On May 1st, 2008, Ms. Li passed away as a result of persecution. A once healthy and vibrant practitioner was persecuted to death just for practising Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
  • Crimes Committed by Guards at the Suihua City Forced Labour Camp

Guards at the Suihua City Forced Labour Camp in Heilongjiang Province are known for physical and verbal abuse, as well as extorting money from Falun Gong practitioners. Between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. they force practitioners to do manual labour, including sorting toothpicks and making car cushions. The practitioners are punished if their quotas are not met. Practitioner Mr. Miao Shujun was in good health before entering the labour camp. He was sent to the labour camp in the first half year of 2007, and he carried out a hunger strike in the First Division in protest of the persecution. The guards constantly kicked him and beat him with heavy instruments. The huge amount of physical abuse has left him mentally confused and weak. Now he has difficulty walking without support and vomits frequently.
  • Nine Practitioners Receive Harsh Sentences in Shouguang City, Shandong Province

From January 1st, 2008 to August 24th, 2008, 89 practitioners in Shouguang City were arrested. Fourteen of them were sentenced to forced labour. • Child Beaten by Police for Asking about Her Detained Mother

On January 16th 2009, I returned home and saw a mess everywhere. Dad was very haggard. Under my persistent questioning, he simply told me that mum had been arrested because of her distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong, and was taken to Dashan Detention Centre in Qingdao. I could not control my agitation and went to Shen Tao, the director of the Political Protection Office, to ask for my mum. In 2004, he arrested her and tortured her. She could be in life-threatening danger: how could I calmly stay at home? Suddenly Shen Tao pushed me. I felt a searing pain in my back. I asked, "Why are you beating me?" He replied, "Who beat you? It served you right!"
  • Ms. Li Xihui Subjected to Physical and Mental Torture for More than Two Years

Ms. Li Xihui has been detained in the so-called "Chengdu Legal System Education Centre" for more than two years. The practitioners detained in this facility were injected with drugs that destroy the central nervous system. They were also subjected to all kinds of mental torture. As a result, they suffer from severe mental problems. Regardless of whether they yielded or not, the practitioners looked wizened, their eyes dull, their speech slurred and their gait slow, and their biological mechanisms malfunctioned after they were released. It took a long time for them to regain their health. Since the Party does these things secretly, the practitioners' families and the general population are unaware of what is happening.
  • Tumen National Security Brigade Brutally Tortures Falun Gong Practitioners

In mid-December 2008, police from the Tumen National Security Brigade arrested Ms. Liu Shanzhen, Ms. Meng Fanqin, and four or five other Falun Gong practitioners, most of whom were women. Liu Shanzhen, Meng Fanqin and other practitioners were arrested because they distributed leaflets exposing the persecution and told people the facts about Falun Gong, and were reported by someone. The police brutally tortured them, which resulted in severe injuries. Meng Fanqin, who is over 60, was beaten so badly by the police that one could hardly bear to look at her.
  • Ms. Sun Cuiqing and Ms. Xu Na Sentenced to Prison

Police officers from Tanghai County, Hebei Province stole from Falun Gong practitioners and made up a story to frame them. Police recorded finding 1,200-1,300 pieces of Falun Gong material in Ms. Sun Cuiqing's home at the time. Li Fuguo and other officers later falsified a report saying that they found 9,258 pieces of Falun Gong materials there. As a result, the Tanghai County Court sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Sun Cuiqing to four years and Ms. Xu Na to four and a half years of imprisonment.
  • Woman Tells the Court About the Greatness of Falun Gong--Lawyer Courageously Defends Her for Refusing to Give Up Her Belief

On July 29th, 2008 while Zhu Yumei and Mr. Wang Kun were distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong, they were arrested by a group of policemen. Since then, Ms. Zhu and Mr. Wang have been held at detention centres. In court, Ms. Zhu stated that the reason she was giving out out flyers was to let people know about the persecution of Falun Gong. She and Mr. Wang were not harming anyone. Quite the contrary, they were helping people to learn the true situation about Falun Gong, the persecution, and the nature of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Lawyer Han refuted prosecutor Acheng's charges one by one with quotes from China's Constitution and various parts of its criminal law. The lawyer's defence was forceful.
