  • Authorities in Mengyin County, Shandong Province Harass and Arrest Falun Gong Practitioners

    From March 17th to 19th, 2009, police from the Mengyin 610 Office and local police station harassed and arrested several local, blacklisted, Falun Gong practitioners and their homes were ransacked. Ms. Liu Guimei, a practitioner in Tiecheng village, Mengyin county, was arrested that same day while she was in the Jushan market. It was said that when Ms. Liu was arrested, she shouted, "Falun Gong is Good. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good." On March 18th, when Liu's husband, Wang Mingji, went to the Jushan police station to ask for her release he was also arrested. Only their child, Yangyang, was left at home. This couple has been arrested several times.
  • Ms. Zhang Liqin and Ms. Zhang Huiqing Inhumanely Tortured by Qianan Police in Hebei Province

    Ms. Zhang Liqin, 45 years old, a teacher, had gone to Shangzhuang Town in the evening of May 22nd, 2008 to distribute Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution. Someone reported her to the police who arrested and tortured her for three days. They used electric batons to shock her, leaving her with blisters all over her body. She is still held at the Qianan City Detention Centre, although her term has expired. Her co-workers said of Ms. Zhang, "She is a trustworthy person. She arrived early each day to clean the room and lit the stove, which is tedious and dirty. She never complained about anything. Her husband divorced her for practising Falun Gong. She has not received any pay for nearly 10 years and lost her freedom."
  • Ms. Wei Yalan Died As a Result of Abuse in Yang'ai Prison

    Ms. Wei Yalan was sentenced to a five-years prison term for her belief in Falun Gong and the wish to live by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Her physical condition had deteriorated dramatically and she was in poor health when released after years in Yang'ai Prison. Ms. Wei was forced to work on gemstones and make cotton tapes. The working conditions were inhuman. She was forced to work more than 12 hours daily. The workshops had no windows and were full of production dust. On September 14th, 2007, Ms. Wei passed away, shortly after her release. She was only 50 years old.
  • The Persecution of Ms. Meng Fanli from Jiamusi City

    In November 2000, Ms. Meng Fanli went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. She was taken to the Xicheng District Detention Centre in Beijing. She refused to tell police her name or address. The police handcuffed her to a radiator in a position where she was unable to stand straight or sit. She had to remain bent over for a whole day and night. Police used a torture method termed "stew the eagle." If the practitioners did not tell their names, they were forced to stand still. As soon as the practitioner closed his or her eyes, the police began talking or yelling at them. The police were divided into a few groups to torture the practitioners around the clock. After a few days, the practitioners were very exhausted. She was sentenced to one year of forced labour.
  • The Recent Persecution of Practitioners in Tonghua City, Jilin Province

    Ms. Chen Hongyu was detained in Changliu Detention Centre. She was brought to trial on March 28th, 2009. Once she got out of the gate, she was handcuffed and forced into a black car. Her head was covered by black headgear. After driving about one and a half hours, she was brought into an interrogation room, and the head cover was removed. According to criminals in Changliu Detention Centre, they were once secretly taken there, too, their heads covered in black headgear. They did not know where they were going. Ms. Chen was handcuffed to an "iron chair" and had cold water poured on her.
  • Torture Methods Used at the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

    On November 5th, 2008, the prison guards at the Masanjia camp tried to use force on the practitioners, who had refused to write the three statements to renounce Falun Gong. As they still did not compromise, they were subjected to a torture called "stretching." In this torture method, handcuffs are used to secure the victim's hands and legs to two bed frames; the guards then stretch the person in four directions. The guards shouted, "If Liu Cheng still refuses to write the three statements, we will chop off one of his legs."
  • Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners at Tilanxiao Prison, Shanghai

    The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners at Tilanxiao Prison in Shanghai City is notorious and guards loyal to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) even tie up the private parts of practitioners in attempts to force them to "transform." Other tortures include: electric batons, brutal beatings, forced-feedings, the "death bed" torture, sleep deprivation, confinement to a small cell, handcuffing to the ground, forced sitting on an electric plastic ring, and slave labour. When practitioners hold hunger strikes, they may be tied naked on the death bed, where any movement is impossible, in attempts to force the practitioner to give up the hunger strike and give up practising Falun Gong.
  • Mother and Daughter from Kunming City Arrested and Sent to Prison for Practising Falun Gong

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Long Huaxian was arrested for no valid reason on June 2nd, 2008 by police in Kunming City. She was sent to Kunming City No. 2 Detention Centre to be incarcerated. On January 5th, 2009, she was secretly put on trial and sentenced to imprisonment by the Kunming City Intermediate Court. Ms. Long is currently appealing the sentence. Her daughter, Ms. Zhou Jin, who is also a Falun Gong practitioner was taken away by police on April 22nd, 2008. Police sentenced Zhou Jin to 3 years of imprisonment. Zhou Jin appealed, but it was rejected. Up until today, they have not informed her family members which prison Zhou Jin was sent to.
  • Practitioner Ms. Wang Shumei of Boli County Secretly Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison

    Practitioner Ms. Wang Shumei was reported by informers and arrested by police while appealing against the persecution of Falun Gong. She was sentenced to a seven year prison term, though the court knew that the sentence was illegal. They allowed only six people to be present in the trial - five from the court itself plus Ms. Wang. They did not inform any family members. Now her family members have hired a lawyer to file an appeal.
  • At Least 14 Practitioners Arrested by the 610 Office in Mengyin County, Shandong Province

    On March 17th and 18th, 2009, at least 14 practitioners were arrested by officials from 610 Offices during a large scale operation. According to reports, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) held a meeting in Jinan, where a quota for the arrest of practitioners was determined for each town. Ms. Sun Zhaoying was arrested on March 18th. According to her neighbours, a 610 Office policeman broke a window and entered her house because she refused to open her door.
  • Asking for Help to Release My Younger Brother Xie Yunhuan Who Is Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison

    My brother Xie Yunhuan, 34, who used to be a student in Japan, went back to China in February 2000 to appeal for Falun Gong. He was sentenced 10 years in prison and has suffered long- term abuse and mistreatment under the persecution. The so-called criminal evidence the persecutors presented was absurd - making 1,400 copies of Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution and 90 copies of a newspaper, and participating in several experience-sharing meetings. In October 2002 my brother was sent to the Hedaling Prison where the detainees were forced to work in an underground coal mine. He was compelled to load and transport coal underground, like a slave, and could be subjected to scolding, lashing or beating with wooden rods at any time.
  • Ms. Cheng Guiping Suffers Mental Impairment after Being Injected with Drug in Shayang Forced Labour Camp

    Ms. Cheng Guiping was reported to the authorities while she was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in December 2001. Ms. Cheng was imprisoned for one and a half years and then sent to Shayang Forced Labour Camp for further persecution because she refused to renounce Falun Gong. At the Shayang Camp, the guards beat her and tied her up. They told the prison doctor to inject an unknown drug, using a 3-inch long needle, into the veins in her calf. Ms. Cheng lost consciousness. She woke up two days later and seemed dazed and confused. She could not recognize her family. Currently, Cheng Guiping is dependent on drugs to maintain a certain amount of rationality and she is staying in Huaxin Hospital's Mental Section.
  • Practitioner Zhu Lianzhen from Leshan City, Sichuan Province Sent to Forced Labour Camp

    Because Ms. Zhu Lianzhen, a fifty-four-year-old woman, refused to give up her belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, she was sent to Wutongqiao detention centre by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials in Leshan city. After being detained for forty days, she was sentenced to a year in forced labour camp. Currently she is being detained at Sichuan Women's Forced Labour Camp. For practitioners who refuse to give up their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, they forced them to keep in a certain position and used in an army for a long time. If they are not "transformed" in one month, their term would be increased by fifteen days.
  • Older Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Zhu Quandi from Beijing Died as a Result of Persecution

    Ms. Zhu Quandi, 65, had practised Falun Gong since 1993. Her late stages cirrhosis was healed through the practice. On February 19th, 2008, police searched Ms. Zhu's home, confiscated Falun Gong materials, and sentenced her to forced labour. In the women's forced labour camp, she suffered liver cancer as a result of persecution and being forbidden to practise the Falun Gong exercises. On April 1st, 2009, she passed away in hospital.
  • Falun Gong Practitioners Severely Persecuted at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

    Because she refused to renounce Falun Gong, practitioner Ms. Jia Yahui was blindfolded and then shocked with electric batons by guards at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. The guards tried to brutally force her to put her fingerprint on a document renouncing Falun Gong. Another time, when Ms. Jia shouted "Falun Gong is wonderful!" they hung her up by her handcuffed wrists and cruelly tortured her. Another practitioner, who also did not cooperate is Ms. Zhang Min, age 49. Because she refused to sign a form renouncing Falun Gong, she was beaten until her face and entire body was badly bruised and swollen.
